Whose a Focus fan?

Who is a fan of Mk1 Focuses?

I can see the early ones becoming scarce soon, the really early S plate examples.

It's a bit too late for the one I just put over the bridge. 02 tdci Ghia, wasn't too bad but nobody wanted it so it had to go

£1000 to £1200 gets you in a Mk2. Not bad for a 'modern' car. They certainly don't feel old, solid car.

When a really tidy Mk1 is £6-700 though it's hardly worth bothering with the tatty crap at £3-400.

My Dad had his 2.0 Ghia for over 10 years, only non consumable it ever needed was a fanbelt. He scrapped it when the exhaust baffle fell off because he couldn't be bothered to sell it

I bridged a 57 plate mk2 Focus a few weeks ago. Hgf issues plus it had nearly 300000 on the clock from its life as a Cardiff police car and taxi.

I never got on with Focuses... like many modern* cars the back is far too high for easy reversing.

And the styling* always made me feel a bit queasy.

Verdict: wouldn't.

I didn't like the interior at first but once you get over it it's actually surprisingly comfortable.

Since this is in the open forums I thought you were asking about the 70s Dutch prog rock band.

I am not a fan either, for me it's the driving position, I just never feel comfortable. But I am sure they will be future classics as they were such a game changer and are a Ford.

It's surely only a matter of time before these become hot Autoshite property, especially so now they can be had for £300. They even offer plenty of scope for weldathon threads.

Does anyone know if the TDDis will run on takeaway juice?

Posted

They seem to be at the bottom of the value curve, £6-700 gets a really smart one.

I think my last three cost less than that all together. Absolutely zero love for the things, sorry, they're bloody horrible.

I reckon they look ok, but every single one of them is fucked.

They're too new to have been restored or looked after, too old to be in good condition. No only are they at the bottom of the value bell curve, they're at the top of the "likely to be knackered" one.

Guaranteed, you'll see one and it'll be on a mixture of alloys and trims, rusty door bottoms, smashed wing mirror, trim hanging off and it'll be clonking from every suspension component and bush.

Are the TDDI's not for the uk... ?

I read somewere that TDDI was american/euro and TDCI was for UK.

I like them. Much better than an escort. It's just the rust is a killer.

I might put a bid on the one above if it stays cheap, I had a Focus Estate donkeys on a 51 plate.

It was my first car and it was allright. Never let me down and was cheap as chips. I had the 1.6 Zetec ll engine.

We have a 3 door Focus Auto at work which is the pool car on a 54 plate. Again it's the 1.6 flavour. Its at 159k miles and hasn't really put a foot wrong - though the Autobox is dreaful.

I quite like the ST170. They are pretty cheap at the moment too, not attracting scene tax yet.

I don't know I see loads that are really tidy. Invariably 1.6 Zetecs in resale Silver.

Here's ours, body is surprisingly good bar a bit of loose paint at the end of the sills. Handles absolutely brilliant, I reckon the 1.6 is good in this respect, just enough not to get you in bother. Does 40 mpg without any bother either.

The blue one is the one we had before it was a Zetec which had noticeably firmer suspension. Died a death though when it got to the stage where it wanted a few jobs doing and the black one came up for £600.

Bought the blue Estate for £100 to break, invaluable source of bits. Had the nice blue velour you got on the earlier LXs... mmm tasteless

The old man has had a '99 1.6 petrol estate for the last 12 years,

It's needed a few bits 'n pieces of that time but still goes well and looks fine.

Has a towbar too so handy for hauling shite

My old one in 1.8i Ghia saloon flavour, loved it, great to drive, and wasn't rusty, which made a change, nice and comfy and went like a stabbed rat

Nah, we got TDDIs until 2002 when the TDCI came out. I've said this before, but my FIL's TDDI was bought at a year old / 10k and was thoroughly abused - it had more windscreens (three) than services (two) before finally succumbing to HGF with 240k on the clock last year.

I had a diesel for a short while. Brilliant to drive but it was absolutely frigging rotten, like HANGING rotten. POS.
