Shiters (Unfinished) Campervan - Now not fo-shail.

Having owned for 3 years and still not being anywhere near completed, I'm reluctantly putting my van up for sale.

 

Firstly, it isn't anywhere near finished, but it is usable from day one with all major facilities operational.

 

1999 T178BVL Tranny 190 LWB hi-roof. 2.5 Di non-turbo. MOT UNTIL END JANUARY 2018.

 

3.5 tonne, Class7. (6 stud, single wheel).

 

Getuhome tax n insured etc etc.

 

£1000 cash as it stands including a couple of choice bits that'll will aid completion. There is no room for haggling or swopz. This is insanely cheap so don't even ask!

 

And NO, you won't be able to register it as a camper as it won't qualify due to the bed not being 6' etc...

 

If you choose to rip it all out to use as a van, that's your biz!

 

The interior fittings thus far are to a ridiculously high standard (and probably far too high). You'd be surprised! Designed to be a 2 birth, but you could easily make it a 2+1.

 

I'll add further details of what's been done later, so do check back! (though everything you see in pics is included).

I never knew about the tax rules on bed size. What difference does taxing as a camper make?

It's for insurance I think, if you can get it put on the logbook as motor caravan insurance​ only costs $ instead of $$$.

Tax? I was referring to registering it with DVLA as a camper, which lowers insurance (though not by much) and means you *could* increase its insured value rather than just insuring it as a van (like everyone else does).

 

Currently costs me £160 fully comp as a van with no excess.

TBH the insurance company have never asked me what the DVLA think it is, just be straight with them "I converted it to a camper, it's got a bed and a sink and a hob"

Campers can go car speed limits instead of van ones, but you need X amount of windows too.

Everything pictured is included. Plus a few choice bits that are only of use to this project.

 

EVERYTHING except for the sink is NEW, even down to the foam for the cushions and their fabric. (if you consider the foam alone cost £120 and the fabric £50, you get a picture of just how expensive the project had become).

 

The only obvious thing you can't see is the 5amp solar panel on the roof.

 

Heating and hob all working, new toilet. Most plumbing done etc etc.

 

One for the DIYer. Do as you will. Reconfigure. Tear it out. Lots still to do. Your call. Etc etc...

Following suggestions, I've rung me insurance company and asked them "if" I were to fit the van out as an unofficial camper, what the premium would be.

 

They say that as long as I do not add additional passenger seats in the rear, my premium would increase to £207 (annualised). That's 40 quid more than I currently pay, but 25% overall.

 

This still only covers the value as a van though.

 

I don't think that's a bad deal.

The insurance on the Vito went down by 60% when I changed it to a camper- speed limits went up too.. and ALL campers are a class 4 MOT which is cheaper. This looks like it'd be easy to get reclassed.

Yes, it would.

 

If you add a side window to the door and add either a clip on or pull out section to the bed it would fully comply. Both will happen eventually, if I end up keeping it.

I liked yours but the lack of a Bog puts a lot of people off. Can't really be self-sufficient without one.
