Heater matrix has been flushed several times. The first time, a torrent of icky muck came out, and it went from no heater at all to slightly warm. However, once you're on the move, or set the fans to high, there isn't enough heat.

Okay. Assuming water flows though it freely, then the heater valve isn't working properly - or the system isn't bled. I don't know a great deal about Blueturds but I would be checking the heat of the heater pipes into the matrix - are they actually hot to the touch? Where is the heater valve - on the side of the heater unit or under the bonnet?

I'm wondering if the water pump is doing its thing? If it's not, that could explain the shit heater.

Oh and old hoses wear out and become brittle, a 5 year old coolant heater hose off my rangie could be torn apart by hand! that system runs at about 12psi pressurised so not exactly stressed

Depends who made the hose. Range Rover - not really surprising. How many Morris 1000's for example are still on 40+ year old hoses, yet don't go pop? Hoses fail when they are under abnormal pressure.

Id say this would raffle a lot easier than the proton tbf

Aye. Might come to that. It'd be more per ticket though - £10 at least.

This full-fat 3.0 QX is appealing, not running on 14s obv.

I'd quite like one of these, but I promised I would never own a silver car again. I hate silver cars.

The heater is a full flow item, with air blend flaps for hot/cold selection.

Mine was blazingly hot so possibly the rather small aperture that the takeoff goes from there engine is blocked. From memory it's a right angle.

And no, they aren't dynamic cars. They are a sensible (usually) reliable method of A to B

Shame, punt it on if needs be, but you at least have ticked off one box. Have you owned a Transit or Moggy Thou' yet?

Or a straight 5 Volvo.

So reliable you'd probably never need to post another youtube video.

But maybe I've just been extremely lucky with the three I've had so far.

Or, if it HAS to be Japanese, what about a V6 Vitara?

pattern part shit, unless I want to be rogered by Land Rover parts counter.

Rover V8 hoses should be replaced every 48k or 4 years, which is the schedule that I follow, I will always find one that tears when I pull it off (fnarr)

My First Range Rover (the nail) was pressuring it's cooling system, slipped liner on the 3.9 v8, it eventually popped a hose on the M40, shit loads of steam and flashing warning lights on the dash, by the time I got it stopped the engine had seized.

Also running a stag on reinforced hoses (as per factory) has made me believe that hoses are a service item.   :-P

The Stag system pressurises at around 15lb It has a 20lb cap on it. The consequences of popping a hose and "Bang! your coolant is gone in 5 seconds" are likely to be engine work, maybe even to the extent of writing off one or more cylinder heads.

Sis thestag had a 56 moggie with a 950 a-series in it oh and no temp gauge. It sprang a leak on the a3, by the time we had figured what had happened it was proper cooked, and no there wasnt clouds of steam, the first we knew of it was the engine starting to seize up. difficult to work out which went first, the bottom hose was split from end to end, but the head gasket had also failed, just after stopping I lifted the bonnet to find coolant and oil pissing out of the sides of the engine. proper fucked it was. I replaced the head gasket but the strain had fractured the crank which broke shortly after.

So 40 year old hoses on a pressurised cooling system   ? ticking time bomb that isnt for me, well not any more ;)

Not fit for purpose.

What was the point of the X90 other than providing a lot of people with something to take the piss out of?

Bloody lovely but serious miles!

But it's a Honda. Not only a Honda, but a Honda from the correct generation.

Did I mention that it's a Honda??

Sod it. I've splashed out £40 on a clutch. With luck, it'll actually fit. None of the local factors stock them, or can even get hold of them. Useless arseholes. No wonder I never use them. They can never get what I need!

I would love it to be fair. I really would. But I have this Bluebird. And a Proton. And no money.

I think you should cut your losses and bang it on the bay of E or Carandclassic. You don't like it, and I don't foresee it getting any more robust than it is.

I doubt it's going to fetch much as it is. I think I might just chance it for the upcoming Sussex/Kent trip and see how it goes. Only a few business-critical things to do on the trip, so not like it's important...
