Cars that look better from behind.

What? The breathtaking NSU Prinz and the highly successful Hillman Imp.

BMW 1800/2000

BMW -02

BMW e3

Fiat 1300/1500

Saporoshez

Hino Contessa

Panhard BT/CT 24

Simca 1000

Karmann Typ 34

Also, I wouldn't instantly dismiss the lack of breathtakingness of the NSU.

Sweet TTS.

I wanted to say E3 as well but then got into despair because it looks great in any views. Most gorgeous BMW ever. Even over the E9 which looks out of proportions somehow. 2000CS looks nicer.

I usually can't see the front of an Audi in my mirror.

A lot of cars with nice rears are usually just good looking cars from all angles, IMO.

Vauxhall Victor FE.

Front - gawky:

Rear - neat:

Same applies to the saloons.

I noticed that an awful lot of Modern Renault stuff looks better from the back.

Is this because you spend more time pushing them down the road rather than driving them so Renault in there wisdom gave you something nice to look at.

The front end looks great, but the back is like nothing else

I like the C4 coupe a lot but it's derriere owes quite a lot to the mid nineties Mazda 323 3 door...which also looks great from behind. post-20412-0-39909300-1493881427_thumb.jpg

The last Prelude - absolutely gopping from the front!

I'll add another to kick things off.

There's basically two ways this can go. There are cars with genuinely attractive arses and there are cars that are so ugly the back can't help but be nicer than the front by default.

This I think actually falls into both categories.

The Austin 3 litre.

The back end treatment is so much nicer than the 1800 on which it is sort of based. Yes I know it's very different underneath but they started with the 1800 centre section.

The front isn't!

Gazumped! The Austin 3 Litre was the first shite I thought of. Nice arse but... I used to have one, and made it into a Wolseley 6/120 replica. 18/85 wheeltrims and badging and reshaped the front with a Wolseley grille to make it less horrible.

Looks nice from this angle, ruined by the basking shark front ends

The car in my photos belonged to a friend of mine (the blue 1800 was one of mine). It was a great car, had many great days out in it but there's no excuse for that front end, especially coming after the Westminster.

I have a photo somewhere upstairs of one with a VDP front, again home made, though I think BMC did a couple of prototypes.

Every Peugeot after the the 406 has looked better from the back.....that is not to say they have looked good, just better than they do from the front.

Peugeot has celebrated this by introducing a new 'PM' limited edition range (PM stands for Pippa Middleton). Here's the 3008 version

I'm glad someone put a Tatra up, that was my next choice. Although that's a 600 above (I think), I prefer the T77 or 87. A bit more sweeping and with a proper fin. And no rear window! Who needs a window when you can peer through some tiny slats? Most of the original pictures they don't seem to have mirrors either. Must have been fun to reverse but it wouldn't matter because they look fabulous.

In silver they remind of the old Flash Gordon rocket ship. Streamlining 1930s style.

Yes, it's a 1951 600 Tatraplan.  The 603 is also one of my favourites.

If I could only have one (as if!) it would be a 603. Still unusual looks but a bit more usable. If I could have more it'd be a late 613 or 700 for everyday use and a T87 for weekends.

I'd fucking love a corvair Monza. Smashing looking thing.

This applies to both of my cars!

Also applies to my "new" one

Fiat Barchetta, the rear is what made me buy one, then the 3rd brakelight rule came in and they made a cats arsehole.

I actually clicked on this thread to say exactly the same thing, except you spelt Aldi wrong m8.

The Mito is a poster child for this thread.

It's both really horrendously styled up front and surprisingly nicely styled at the back.  The back doesn't look good because the front looks bad, it looks good because it's good.

So many of the cars I’ve owned, I’ve been glad to see the back of :)

Would love to own one of these though...

It's largely to do with the rear window. The phase 1 looks good from any angle IMO, but then I'm biased as they are in my top 10 of evar.
