Crap Car Cup

I'm sure some of you will remember the Crap Car Cup in Car magazine in 93.I've been in contact with The Dogfather and there's a chance of a rerun starring us lot.

Who'd be up for it? I believe James May is current title holder.

Buy car from classifieds for £350 or less, points for breakdowns, being in Car magazine's 'Average or Boring' when new, then it's an economy run, run to the seaside etc while spending least amount possible on them.

It's basically not that different from the average AS collection thread.

I randomly saw this mentioned in the comments section of an old aronline article the other day. I gave it a quick google bit couldn't find anything.

The CCC would be great news for anyone with a £350 car to sell. *Wink wink*

*I haven't btw

I would think a sub £350 car today is a whole lot better than a sub £350 car was back in 1993,

when used cars retained some value for a comparatively long time.

Was that the one with a Capri and a Renault 14 with half a set of boules in the boot?

I think the shadow would be a contender reading some of the stuff he picks up

Crap Car Cup was Goodwin May Horrell Barker? and s few of the other classic Car writers in teams. Fiat Strada, Renault 9 or 11 and something else. Not actually read it for years but I've got a copy somewhere.

As has been pointed out, new cars are more reliable so we'll have to go further.

Blimey, back then sub 500 quid would get you a really scabby clapped out banger.  Nowadays you can get something almost OK for that sort of money, and if you adjust 500 quid to today's equivalent (795), you'd be looking at moderately serviceable chod.

Also, look at those shirtless car dealers.  Talk about geezers!

Smokes like a wounded Lanc running for the Channel.

It's ace.

I currently don't have a single car which cost me more than 350 quid. If I break it down further, the sum total purchase price all FIVE of my currently road legal fleet is 300 quid.

I'm interested...

My van was very cheap.....

Probably the most reliable vehicle I've had too. Well it's the only one that I've had for 4 month now and no rocks, boulders, walls or bmws.

Just read the article, five hundred quid London to Edinburgh.

Three hundred and fifty pound car made them very nervous and tjust hirty pounds worth of fuel.

In post Brexit UK that'll cost you sixty or seventy pounds in fuel and with cars currently so mind bogglingly cheap you'll need a sub two hundred pound motor to stand any chance of failure to arrive.

It's only four or five hundred miles!.

How about (excluding insurance) two hundred and fifty pounds all in?

The amount of free cars I've managed to collect would make the budget part a doddle, any of the three pisshat TDIs would do that comfortably.

Do raffle prizes count? If so, £14 Merc is a shoe-in for first prize.
