Whilst we are on the subject of colour, can anyone tell me why it seems to be the law to have a black bonnet and checks on your van? I am soooo non scene.

I got given an x reg vito brand new for work. It did 50k in a year without a service. I wrote it on the van sheet it was due every week but they just ignored it. I had it parked up one night and the car next to it was torched. The vito survived with only a melted wing mirror and plastic trim bubbling.

Glad it's staying turquoise. I've recently gone turquoise as well.

I really dislike bonnet bras. It's like putting plastic on your couch.

Mrs Cheeze's new car has black wheels. They have gone a browny grey now.

That colour reminds me of the turquoise bargain bin Datsun spray paint I bought for 50p in 1986 and sprayed my Raleigh Grifter in it along with most of the stuff in dads shed.

My garden furniture is the same colour for much the same reason.

I don't like it either. Looks like a cheap repair they couldn't afford to get painted.

Rock and roll bed is built up and trial fitted in- over 6 ft long and big enough for the 2 of us.Insulation finished and few odds and ends tidied up. New secondhand wing arrived and painted, it had a vinyl stripe on it which took ages to get off, tried a heat gun first but it was coming off in tiny bits, so soaked it in thinners for a bit but that's messy. Was working in the shed with windows closed and heater on so it got a bit psycadelic..Had to stop for a bit- not sure if it was the fumes or the many pints of Guinness consumed at a mates stag do in Edinburgh last night..

+1 on that mate!

Point of order.

Aren't black alloy wheels OK if, but only if they have an bright alloy rim to provide definition - whether polished or not?

Inside's really taking shape now- all the major stuff in in and fixed down..details now- wiring, lights, gas etc.

That's good progress, I parked up a van filled with everything to convert 2.5 years ago, my progress so far, I went round with a can of petrol and a battery to fire it up last Monday.

It's going to look amazing and be one sorted camper when finished and I love that colour.

'Nother wee update- the interior is pretty much finished- only a little snagging to do, some more fixings and tidy up some wiring. It's quite a nice place to be! The rain came on this afternoon when I was doing a bit of bodywork, so I got in, fired up the Eberspacher, put the kettle on and chilled. The blue LED's seem pretty calming. The wee Waeco fridge certainly seems worth the £££- got cold really quickly, draws little power and is very neat.

That is tremendous work!

First time I've ever looked at a Vito and thought "Yes".

Good effort chap

Fantastic progress!  Looking seriously good in there.

I want to do this one day - I'm slightly more handy at making furniture than I am at fixing cars (though not much faster).  I don't understand why camper vans you buy new for £40k+ all look like your gran's bungalow circa 1991, when they could be so much smarter like Barry's.  Chuck out yer chintz, and all that.

The Vito project has been progressing steadily. Rock and roll bed, units,cooker/sink and Waeco fridge are all in various Sprinter vans heading towards my hoose. Rust free offside door now all fitted. Crappy Merc central locking system has been ripped oot and adapted as remote locking. cupholder light has been installed, side and rear doors insulated and panels carpeted, floor nearly finished and carpet tiles ready to go down- bit worried about this as I have previous withEvilStick, but hey- Some rust ground down, treated and primed, but still too cold for aerosols. A quality 90's remote Panasonic CD player on it's way too. Got all the rear end brake parts and ABS sensors from Berlin- half the price I could get them here, even trade. All quality stuff too. A lot done, loads and loads still to do..

Have you done your solar power install yet?

Well impressed with the speed and standard of this, really puts anything I do to shame!

Posted

Not got the solar stuff yet.. have gone slightly over budget so far..All the hidden stuff mounts up, and I've been buying lamps, led's and central locking kits etc that I didn't plan for... :?  Got parts from Onlinecarparts.co.uk- stuff came from Berlin.. was much cheaper than Euro/Dingbro etc.

It looks good, and I'm pretty happy with it so far, but I'm useless with wood and wood substitutes. Times like these I wish my Dad was still here- he was a proper old school Cabinet Maker.... I can't saw in a straight line to save me life.

Don't feel bad Barry. There is only one thing you can't cut with a jigsaw.

A straight line!

Wow, I stepped away from this thread for something like five minutes and you've nearly finished it. Looks great to me, did you build all the cabinets from scratch?

Excellent work, can you build me one too please?

Which fridge did you got for in the end? Is it a crx65? I'm doing a very similar conversion to my T4 at present but am being swayed more towards the crx80

Cheers!
