Bulgaria Fest - Task complete

I've been delving and found this guide to buying cars in BG.  To buy it you and the private seller need to go to a Notary Public with the seller bringing a pile of documents and the buyer bringing money and ID.  The buyer then has 14 days to register the car or presumably skip the country and head back to Blighty.

This sounds more tempting than Scotland. 5 days after my birthday too.

When I spoke to Alex he said that whilst that is was is supposed to happen, as long as you get a signed receipt then that works.

Someone by Bub a soviet C70 out there to ride home.

Yes please. I miss my c90. Sadly means a trike conversion these days though!

Fly over!  Easyjet, one-way, no probs.  (Other airlines are available)  Buy something, drive/ride home in convoy.  Might be a slow convoy on a little Honda, but I doubt many of the cars will be going very fast anyway :)

How long are we intending to be over there? Think it'd be prudent to have at least a day or two tinkering time before heading home - just to make sure cars are serviceable.

Having driven in Bulgaria, it (and the people) are ace, but it's also Big and sparsely populated.

I write the above as someone who drove an unseen Oxford 250 miles home..

Can't not be a part of this really. It sounds bloody awesome. I do hate flying, but I'm sure I'll cope.

So is the plan fly out and bring something back? Can I fly out, point and laugh and hitch a lift with someone for a share in their fuel bill?

I am gutted I can't make the advertised date :-(

I've been looking forward to this since it was announced last year. Ah well... if it goes well it might turn into a more regular event, I suppose...

Is a welcome back event possible? As it's midweek, you'll arrive back at different times, probably knackered and just wanting to get home...maybe not

But, I wouldn't mind trying to organise a repatriation event in or around Dover if that's where you'd come back to.

Bad news - School half term starts on mon 28th

Serious negotiation will be required.

If people just wanted to come for japes for weekend that is cool as well. No need for everyone to have to come and drive a car back. Couple of cheap flights. Then mess about in Bulgaria for weekend can work.

I am a lecturer hence picking the reading week for my 40th shin dig.

My plan is. Others may do different. As mentioned above, people are more than welcome to fly out Friday and just have a weekend in Bulgaria then fly home.

If I can swing the domestic arrangements, I think I'll fly out Friday with a return flight booked for mon / tues with the option to shite purchase if that arrises.

Which way are people planning on heading back?

Google Maps suggests a route through Serbia and Germany,  I'm not certain that I want to drive a £300 Bugarian car past a TUV checkpoint.  So I was planning on heading south into Greece then north west up the Adriatic coast through Albania and Bosnia then accross the top of Italy and up through France.

Yep that sounds like a plan.

So I’m guessing .bg is a country where plates are assigned to cars then, and not drivers?

If anyone feels brave enough to bring back an FSO Polonez (which was one of the possibilities I was thinking of), a mate of mine has a 20,000 mile 2.0 twin cam from a Lancia HPE that should* slot straight in.

And hey presto!

- a Spaghetti Polonez :-D
