Bulgaria Fest - Task complete

I am also in the (hopefully) final stages of sorting out a vehicle in Romania too.

I reckon it could be all sorted before flying out there, unless said vehicle is fucked. If that is the case, I will have about a day to get an alternative vehicle sorted.

If there is a Romanian gumtree this may help.

I think I'm going for the Dacia estate then. Means I can easily sort out insurance before we even jump on a plane. Chap speaks good English and knows how to go about doing owner transfers and stuff. The plan is on!

Brodders - I guess you haven't got much time to linger in Sofia? I was planning on a bit of sight-seeing on the Friday.

So is Bulgariafest becoming Romainiafest?

Well, the flights are still to Bulgaria, but yes, Romania has become the default choice for chod.

I have myself booked into a hotel in Sofia until Friday night, and was planning on getting the train to Romania on Saturday morning. As such, I should have a little bit of time for sightseeing in Sofia on Thursday and Friday.

Surely someone having a 'sorted' car will help the spontaneous people out, you can go buy car 1,then use car 1 to travel to find the rest of the cars/get home if all else fails

I think only two cars are being purchased now. Probably.

Depend on whether we have to buy a Yugo Sana to A frame it home with when it conks out in the middle of a Bosnian minefield.

I'm overjoyed* to discover that Monday 28th is a public holiday in Romania. That makes life interesting.

With Friday the 25th being a public holiday in BG to add to the chaos,  why are we doing it that week?  ;)

Nay. The Thursday is the public holiday in Bulgaria oddly. We arrive with ten minutes of it left.

Ha! Another advantage of an English speaking seller is that he reckons he can do all the admin before we get there. That takes the pressure off! All I need to do is send my ID and some money to someone I've never met and who lives over 1700 miles away...

WCPGW?

Oops, I had in my head that we arrived on a public holiday but forgot that we arrived with 10 mins of Thursday still available.

Blimey, does he have access to anything else?

Not sure if this pic will work, but the Dacia seller was checking the valve clearances and it's all a bit K-Series...

Will be done next weekend. Maybe I should pack a torque wrench to reset the head bolts on the way back!

Just having a discussion with someone who wants bits Nippa possibly delivered to Bulgaria (not sure where yet) so is anyone driving a support vehicle over?

Nope. Just three of us flying over now I think. What sort of bits?

Posted

Unknown yet but trying to get them to take complete car + delivery in exchange for help getting some old chod. You want any Nippa bits?

Posted

Pretty sure an entire Nippa would put us beyond our baggage limits sadly. I have no idea what Nippa bits we'll need one day. Currently none, but you can never tell with these things. Haven't got room for a spares car.

I've not really been following this until recently.

Just wanted to wish all three of you good luck etc before I forget all about it again.

I've spent the last few evenings trying to plan a route back and was drawn to the Transfagarasan Road in Romania.  Its a little bit out of our way but not as much for Brodders.

Good luck chaps, wish I was coming with you.

One of the reasons I can't make it is work … I don't suppose your potential route back comes through Slovenia, Ljubljana specifically, as I might be over working over there ;)

I am entirely happy to leave this in your hands.

Not had much conversation with the Dacia seller this week, though I have confirmed that it has a 12v power outlet. He sounded a bit hurt that I was suggesting it might not have one. I have asked where I should send a deposit but so far have had no answer. So, still an element of danger here. No deposit sent, for a car that has just blown its head gasket. WINNING.

It seems the lack of conversation is a common theme. My seller hasn't responded to my request for the VIN number yet (as the insurance company will need it).

I am hoping that he is simply busy, rather than trying to hide something, but I guess a change in plan may be forced upon me if a response isn't forthcoming.

The current plan is to cut through a small bit of Slovenia (which was embarrassing when I couldn't remember where it was when talking to the pretty Slovenian girl last week).  I'm trying to stop for a night in each country so dropping by is certainly possible.
