Shit Gear: Soviet Style

"Big man behind a keyboard" gets me every time. Usually trotted out by some loud mouth thats in the wrong but too arrogant to realise that theyre the cunt of the tale so instead has one last ditch effort to position themselves as the victim of the piece.

Calum is a decent bloke - a genuine gent and a very, very reasonable and forthright man whom I have a great deal of time for. He's a true enthusiast and lover of shite. I can understand why FOAD is pissed off and where he is coming from though - but Calum is sound.

If you look at the terms and conditions, they're not great to freelance for either... (sorry for thread drift).

As long as they pay I don't care. But I've jacked all that in now to drive coaches. Better money (for me) and I don't have to think anymore.

To be fair, they are good to write for. My annoyance was picture rights. Sadly, as you've found out, writing can be a stressy and cash-limited way to earn a living. I'm not surprised so many get a proper job and treat any writing as more of a paid hobby.

Can't say I found freelancing stressy, but I found it a bit of a ballache and it was turning my love cars into a chore, which I really didn't want to happen!

On the test drive for my Yaris Dad went for 6th gear out of habit resulting in an attempt at engaging reverse at 60mph...Although I did buy the car afterwards and we weren't daft enough to film it so its all good.

I'm fairly sure none of the people in the video are complete and utter cunts, I've known Sam via teh interwebs for nearly a decade now can confirm that he is a mild tosser at best.

Has to be said though the entire feature is as bad of an idea as it's production value was... Clearly an attempt at a Top Gear style test but with the exact same jokes that TG have already done themselves but better, dull, predictable, pointless. The written article doesn't even match up very well with what was said in the video!

Drag racing cars at an auction house just isn't on though, I'm surprised they were even allowed to do so by the auction house staff. I'd not be best impressed if it was one of my cars, even the Civic which I couldn't give a flying fuck about...

For me really it's the fact they left it with the prop shaft hanging out and walked off into the sunset "not my problem mate"

Not the decent thing to do.

Do you think I'll get into trouble for using their intellectual property?

Tread carefully with Bauer. They are funny about things like that.

He might be decent as a mate but he's piss-poor at whatever he's trying to do there.

Yo PEEL_of_LACQUER: Not commenting on his skills as a writer or presenter, merely defending his character and trying to put his actions into context.

Also, I'm not trying to strike up an argument in anyway, just having my say :) As you were, Sir.

Think it's OK for copyright as it's for fair comment / criticism and you're not trying to make any money out of it.

I shan't bother adding to the frothing as we seem to have plenty of that.

I would've punched that fucker right in the throat if he'd done that to one of my cars.

Given that at least one of them is a member (no pun intended... well, actually, yeah, pun completely intended) of this forum, I'm surprised that none of this spectacularly talented triumverate have stopped by to comment on what's been said so far.

They won't because they know they are in the wrong and would ( verbally ) get torn limb from limb .

....is coming like a ghost country, all the shite has been closed down.

Had any of my cars been treated as much as nearly like this by those there motoring scribblers, there would be HEADS ROLLING!
Who do those clowns actually think they are?

And if treating other people's cars like that wasn't a lot more than enough, just fucking READ the intellectual arse gravy of the highest order
they then muster to squeeze out of their shitty little minds!
I haven't paid a penny for their unqualified drivel in years and after this SCANDAL I'm more than ever inclined to impute that nothing but
profile neurosis has taken over an entire guild. They should be ashamed of what they made out of the writing arts, but I assume they don't
even know what shame is.

If they want to see money from me ever again, they better get their act together, big time!

I was commissioned to do a job which i did to my brief

Yes. So did the concentration camp wardens in the 3rd Reich.

Fuckwit.

Then those spineless cowards withdraw the video.

They don't even have the guts to own up to their antics!

Needless to say they aren't capable to anticipate the consequences of their stupidity.

The mind boggles.

When Foad placed the car in the auction it was still his possession? If so I would be deeply unhappy at my motor being treated like that.

Hold on.... Wasn't I still the holder of the V5 at that point?

Looking at the whole debacle in context, the thing I find most concerning is that somebody has started unpicking the stitching round the steering wheel! I spent at least an hour one night in front of the tv sewing that up by hand!

I'm also quite surprised that that medal in the form of a homemade BL badge from Shitefest 15(?) still exists, and is hung on the rear view mirror!post-5452-0-82781800-1484783071_thumb.jpg

I seem to recall that was some fancy race car, worth a fair chunk of cash. Engine blew up, owner blamed the journo. I know it all ended up in court, but can't recall the outcome. Fine for me, as I only dabble in worthless tat generally.

Freddy Hunt was in the rick over something he did to a borrowed car, but I think the case you're thinking of is Mark Hales and an old Le Mans Porsche.

Borrowed car. Wouldnt/couldnt pay for damages I read on another forum (so dont read it as gospel) so there was a prolonged handbags.

That looks all of £27 of damage, I thought the accident was at cadwell?

^^^ I remember reading about that at the time. The very disgruntled owner of the half-a-Mini reckoned he'd pleaded with Hunt not to push it and said the car was worth a billionty quid because it was race tuned or something. Hunt duly ignored everything the owner said and royally buggered it. He then ignored all claims for damages and the owner was apparently many thousands of pounds out of pocket. Whatever the case, Hunt clearly has the same pathetic attitude of that man-boy who tried to wreck the Samara.

Edit: Done a bit more digging, and it turns out that Hunt is a man of his word. He fully paid for all the damages to the half-a-Mini (which ran into thousands it would appear) . That makes him a more decent person than Samara Manboy wannabe motoring jounrnalist fella.
