Truck Shite

I did manage to take a few pics of the new Actros I blagged but as it's still covered on the dealers stickers and the sales manager who was driving me back to the depot was VERY candid about the truck market and dealer margins I'm not posting them up here to respect his confidence cos I'll spill the beans about what we talked about later on.

'Dad, can we have a go on the rides? STFU kids, can't you see there are rubbish old trucks to be pictured?

Can't beat the sight of a showman's ERF :)

Seems that there is almost every flavour of one there!

Dunno if I've posted this or not, but heres a pic of my old ERF EC11. What a top motor that was!

I love these - U.S army REO M35 type of thing. the straight through vertical stack comes right off the turbo and the whistle is loud to say the least

couple of Thames, shite-tastic merc 310 and a Scammell highwayman

Atkinson with 240 Gardner straight 8, unusually the Foden 6x4 also has a Gardner, the monster 16 litre 350. Scammell,ww2 chevrolet, ERF

Nice, always likes the air kit on these, looks like it belings there rather than just tacked on :)

Here's another one then, that I used to drive...

SRTERF-vi.jpg

I always said ERF stood for Eddy Ramrod's Favourite! 'Strue, it does, I loved that one. Artic unit stretched, so along with the third (lifting) axle, demountable body and the Hiab, I got a 380 Cummins and 16-speed box! I only ever needed the top 7...

And yes, you're right, it does look like it belongs. Bit silly when returning empty mind, but I could fling it about like an old Transit!

My only experience of EC11s was not a happy one. Asda got a load of ex-tanker jobbies on a V plate about 8 years ago, I'm not sure if tanker wagons have a different suspension/steering setup (I'd never heard of this) but ours were almost impossible to keep in a straight line, they were terrifying to drive with unbelievable amounts of slop at the wheel.

The later ECS models we had were fine.

Blimey Eddy - that must have had some swing-out with the third axle raised!

Probably because they were the first MAN badgineers :D

Oswestry truck show this weekend I believe. Planning on moseying on down on Saturday armed with camera. If anyone else fancies trying to look up Sally Bozeman's skirt or telling Will Mellor he's less funny than a primary school fire let me know and we'll have a mini meet or something.

Which im guessing is hand built / converted?

The rusty one is a mercedes Unimog, 4x4 for the military or foresters, ag contractors etc.

Unimog! cheers fella's. away to wikipedia it now ;)

Was following a Unimog like that (but less rusty) last week. Smoked like hell but was going a fair ol' lick! Until we came to some bends. Then he eased off a bit and actually waved me (in the 2CV) past, which was nice. It had all the tractor gubbins on the back. I love seeing old-but-still-working vehicles.

yup, almost certainly ex-fire service. Dennis did attempt to market a civilian model of this truck (the Delta) with either a Gardner or Perkins but only ever sold in penny numbers, and that was abandoned long before this one was built. lack of crew cab, long wheelbase and mega low mileage would suggest its an ex-turntable ladder.

This was thrumming away to itself in a gentle haze of unburnt diesel the other day, just across the way from where it lives. An ex-military history behind it? I'd have stopped to ask somebody, but I was in a massive rush to get THE FUCK out of Clacton.

Quite a few Scammell S26's made their way into Army service. Not just here, quite a few of our Middle East and Commonwealth chums bought some, and a fair few ended up working the oilfields in the Middle East too. Any or all of which might explain it being a left hook.

It's been recabbed, I'd think; but then some of these old grunts are proper bitsa's. Good spot.

Oi!! Some of us have to live there you know. And I'm only a couple of miles from Jaywick

(Can't say I blame you, mind...)

You mean West Clacton?! Sounds like you might live on my other halfs' manor. At least most of the houses there are built from actual construction materials....

That's quite an impressive (and scary!) sight when it's towing one of the many broken down double decker buses - which are based at the yard a couple of doors up IIRC.

Here it is on Google maps

Noooooooooo not that close to Jaywick!!! I live in the nice part at the top end of Jaywick Lane. You know, not far from the extremely dodgy Percy King pre-fab council estate...

Been looking through this site for the past few weeks, will do a proper intro in a minute. Saw this the otherday and had to post it here:

The caravan has been grafted onto the truck body, I had a quick look in the back and under the caravan is a storage area, which contained some crates of veg!
