Those half cabs were used on the RAF Blue Steel missile carriers with the tip of the missile alongside the driver. I guess there were plenty surplus that were a good source of replacement cabs when those on the dumpers were finally knackered beyond repair.

I hadn't seen anything properly old for a while so this Bedford TK horsebox was a nice surprise.

It's only the second-oldest truck I saw today though. That honour goes to that AEC timber tractor I saw at a show last year, travelling flat out at 28mph.

Found this the other day while looking for something else.

FIAT: Abbey Hill/Yeovil

I didn’t realise these were available over here! 
Cant quite make out the exact model number on the grill, but what an odd choice! Sadly the registration number is now on some wank Audi!

I recall quite  a few FIAT commercials in East Yorks in the '70's and '80's, mainly '900' type vans to be honest but quite a few light lorries, tippers and tractors. I think FIATs dealership network was quite patchy but they must have had one near me. Jordans of Hull were, and in fact still are, a big FIAT car dealer and are responsible for many of them in the area, not sure if they were involved on the commercial side though.

Note the stylised I on the grille of 'yours' it's from that cross over period when IVECO had been formed but they still used the original manufacturers names. IVECO being a combination of many different makers have ensured a much larger network and hence they have become a lot more ubiquitous. Hull based MKM Building Supplies are a massive IVECO user and they are seen daily all over East Yorks and further afield as they now have depots absolutely everywhere.

Here's some UK adverts (note IVECO reference in the black and white one).

Could well be. I did think maybe the Fiat/Iveco 190 series, but they all seem to have either the same or very very similar cab designs regardless of the actual model number.

Its an unusual truck though for the UK, even down to the wheels being a much more Continental/US style with the wheel rim being the removable type with the centre being the hub.

 

This was another find, from the same time as that Fiat above. Going back to those Mercedes trucks a few pages back. Quite unusual for the time in the UK, but proves they were out there!

Show find -ONO 792D -Mercedes L—LK ,4x2 unit and Hoynor tipping trailer ,there was nothing like this those days .I remember these ,light blue cab ,popular with the drivers .

Lenham storage just up the road from me have this LS1418 that goes to promotional events and lorry shows.

There were lots of those Mercs in Brazil when I was there in 2009. Straight through exhausts. Could here them coming a mile off. Literally.

I’m sure those Mercs, and some of the other Merc commercial range were made in South America somewhere from ckd kits. Probably popular in South America due to their reliability.

We've mentioned a few pages back that the 'short nosed' Mercedes lorries sold in the US and Canada were of Brazilian origin.
