Yep, belts have been done 😀

Saab is a 2002 2.3 t auto estate. Just back from Italy. I've done a sump drop, latest breather kit, replacement Di unit-,genuine Saab oil and filter from neos .replacement rad and aux belt, air cone sorted, climate control sorted, pixels sorted 17"double y wheels fitted, genuine removable saab towbar fitted by me,didnt have one.. mot June next year,

Bad stuff?

Air con pulley bearing grumbles a bit with air con on

Will need rear pads shortly

Can puff smoke for a second on first start, only sometimes

Front wheels need rebalanced, slight shimmy at 75 to 80

I am somewhat interested in the Saab if I a: don't end up with a deal for a Volvo 940 for the Smart (which having seen a lot of 740/940s on the motorway this weekend, I am hoping will happen) and b: sell the Smart quickly enough to not be messing you about.

Of course, I expect you'd be acquiring a stick with dog-poo on to be keeping buyers for the Saab away, so not particularly optimistic, but you know :)

4spd or 5spd auto box? Front suggest original model, but not sure if the 5spd came in when they did the first facelift or earlier.

That 75, best colour, best spec. It had better not have the Crown alloys as well, otherwise I'll smash my milk truck into the Whirlies roundabout at 80 without lifting off.

Lovely car. My 75 is looking like being parked up till next year now. Some people have been known to write rude messages on the electric rear blind that you could deploy to middle lane owner drivers. Other fuckwits available.

Got any ideas how I could do that to mine without it being permanent, it would be pretty funny to see the reaction of the (insert whatever car everyone seems to hate at the moment) driver as he follows too closely in rush hour traffic on the A14.

Very nice car by the way, especially the Wedgewood Blue paintwork and the wonderful Serpent alloy wheels on them, which are my favourite wheels on the 75. Has it got a personal line interior? As it looks like the original owner ticked a lot of the option boxes when specing it up.

Wide masking tape I think was one. Rolls up with the blind. Or for full rover licking application. Get templates of rover badge and spray paint it onto the blind.

Ooooh Serpants!

Looks like an 02-03 Longbridge car with those skull cap mirrors. What year is it?

That's very nice indeed. Mudflaps, those wheels and a leccy blind, its all to much.

It's a 2003. Xenon's and heated electric leather too. It's currently in the drive with the whole front end off..usual 75 fan issues which look like has caused the demise of the air con compressor. Fast speed still worked so not ran too hot. Nipped to upullit today to see if I could get a later 2 speed fan unit but no joy, good few 75's though, and an XM in the for sale bit.

Having a real hassle with insurance. Not selling the Saab..can't bring myself to part with it so the 75's getting kept for Sunday best, but need both insured.multicar is stupid, trade policies need more looking into. It's got bloody expensive lately,6 points don't help I suppose...

Re Insurance try Peter Best, they will insure a Rover 75 on a classic policy if its a second car.  http://www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk/

Re The fan, does it kick in on high speed when you use the aircon on 'LO' setting?  Do you know how to monitor the actual coolant temp? You know your stuff Baz so I expect so, if not let me know.  ;-)  Don't rely on the heavily dampered temp gauge on these cars.

I was wondering about trade insurance. Only snag is, I'm not in the trade.

How easy is it to become a trader for insurance purposes?

I could easily sell a few cars if that's the criteria.

You need to be able to prove you are trading if you are ever asked, that's all.

It is EXPENSIVE and can be restrictive

There's an older couple who have the same saab in a fetching shade of blue/green teal colour which I pass while walking the dog.  Always shocked when big cars like this fetch less than my daft little fiats.

People generally at this end of the market prefer small cars, as perceived cheaper to run and repair. So more in demand.

However the Saab is pretty good on juice (providing you don't hammer it), plentiful parts and pretty easy to work on. Just doesn't have the badge appeal of the Germans.

Couple of facelift ZTs in Nobles new u pull it style pick a part section. Theyre pretty cheap for bits.

Waxwing autobreakers behind the queen margaret in dunfermline have just taken in a complete and quite tidy looking 75 for breaking too.

Thanks SD1,The fan works on high speed when I bridge the trinary valve plug, just speed 1 and 2 that were dead..stripped it all out and 2 of the brushes on the motor are worn right down, new brushes tomorrow hopefully.i have Delphi diagnostics which is OK on the 75 so can check temps etc.

At the risk of upsetting Rover ists ,the saab is a better drive IMO... The 75 is nicer to look at and sit in.

Lovely 75. The 75 is a more cosseting smooth car which is serene whereas the saab I have been in have been more of a drivers car shall we say

Went to Nobles today, a ZT-T and a high spec 1.8 turbo estate. Stripped the front off the 1.8, but fan was goosed. clean old car though..got the CD changer magazine, so now I can listen to Hank Marvin. Nipped in by the Appliance repair shop in Kirkcaldy and got some Dyson brushes off him, smashed the old fan apart, soldered in a couple of brushes and put back together.

Nothing.. Got in to check the temp and it now .showed an error with the gearbox. Scratched my arse for a bit, then checked the fuses. The FOGLIGHT fuse was blown, replaced it and the fan worked on all speeds, gearbox error went away..EH?

I now have a functioning fan...aircon compressor is running, but no cold air. Gas pressure is OK so I think the compressor may have died. Picked up a couple of scuttle clips, door strip clips and a fag lighter. Back to work tomorrow so fettling time will reduce.
