dollywobbler Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Now with video. A very long one. That isn't quite in sync. Junkman, Lacquer Peel, tapir and 4 others 7
twosmoke300 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 3m do a UV resistant polish to help slow the yellowing after you have polished them . Thats what the chap who does them for me uses and some he has done are 3+ years now and still ok
dollywobbler Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Popped into my local garage today to investigate alignment. Both track rod ends are shot. Ugh. £25 each.
twosmoke300 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 At least they check them before doing an alignment check
dollywobbler Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 They're pretty good to be fair. He got the gauges on it and was horrified by what he found. Started muttering about balljoints straight away. Found a pair on Ebay for £50. Not ideal, but that's grey imports for you I guess. This is one part NOT shared with the C-RV. oldcars 1
beko1987 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 least you found out before ruining a new pair of tyres! mrbenn 1
dollywobbler Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 Thought it'd be easy to fix a non-working brake light. RONG. I've never encountered monster capless bulbs like this before. What a pain in the arse. Naturally, I don't have any in stock. I never have!
beko1987 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Wow that's big. I have tiny and medium sized ones (dashboard size and Hoover Turbopower/sidelight size), never seen one that large before, thought that was bayonet territory. Those crazy JDM designers!
twosmoke300 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 If you want random bulbs have a look at a modern astra (j?) they have halogen capless ones for DRL's and a few others ive never seen before , let alone keep in stock dollywobbler and overrun 2
dollywobbler Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 Filled up again tonight. So far, 32 mpg, 28 mpg and now 33.5 mpg. Doesn't seem bad for what it is. Still trying to cure a leak through the tailgate. Captain Tolley has been seeking it out. Might be the washer jet, as the leak is right in the middle of the tailgate.
dollywobbler Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Forgot to mention that the headlamps are now amazing! It's like turning daylight on when you hit main beam by comparison. Very pleasing. egg and Bobthebeard 2

What a pain in the arse. Naturally, I don't have any in stock. I never have!I'm sorry but those look like bulbs from an old fashioned camera flash gun, use once and throw away. Junkman 1
fatharris Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Part of me wants to try and prevent them going all crappy again, but the other part of me wants to do nothing, because SCIENCE (allied to lazy). Simple, just try loking after only the one light, it would be interesting to see how much longer (if at all) the protected light resists clouding. scdan4 1
overrun Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Thought it'd be easy to fix a non-working brake light. RONG. I've never encountered monster capless bulbs like this before. What a pain in the arse. Naturally, I don't have any in stock. I never have! As two smoke says, modern Vaux use those.
Noel Tidybeard Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 they are fappingn spenner compared to normal blubs and i'll be bound
dollywobbler Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 Three quid for two bulbs is not exactly cheap. Guess I'll need some in other flavours too.
garbaldy Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Try making your own for less though. I like the boxiness and I don't think I've seen one in the flesh are parts easily available,
dollywobbler Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 Parts are mixed. A lot of running gear is CR-V, but not all. Some is specific to the model, and that stuff is harder to find. Another issue is that some bird keeps shitting on it! In exactly the same place. Every day. Junkman 1

dollywobbler Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 Paint solutions. Er... Actually, touch-up paint was just my simple, not-very-precise way of dealing with ropey-looking wiper arms. Also did the back one, and then washed all the guano off. This car is a proper bird-poop-magnet. Small things, but I think it makes a difference. Also replaced the duff brake light bulb at last! I've not driven this car this week, which has required huge self control. However, it is on limited mileage for the insurance ,so not driving it is the only way to get the average back down. I now have track rod ends, but the tyres are still awaited - hopefully next week. That should transform the way it drives. Then I need to factor in another fluid change to try and improve the flaring on shifts. I think it's the classic slow change, which muck is mostly responsible for. Doesn't slip in gear.
dollywobbler Posted October 8, 2016 Author Posted October 8, 2016 Now with another video! I must like it. chaseracer, mouseflakes and tapir 3
chaseracer Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 SPECKTACKLIER subtitles again! mouseflakes 1
dollywobbler Posted October 8, 2016 Author Posted October 8, 2016 "Yet the pillow can see without the case." YouTube subtitles really are shit! mouseflakes 1
jayroller Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Another issue is that some bird keeps shitting on it! In exactly the same place. Every day. I'd say it would probably best to finish with her then... sorry. johngarty, Richard, DeeJay and 1 other 4
dollywobbler Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 It's been pretty obvious that the tracking is way out on this thing. There are subtle clues, like the way it feels like the front wheels are trying to steer around different bends. Oh, and this tyre. I'm quite ashamed of myself for that. I should know better. First time I've got a tyre down to the cords! It was time for action. It look literally seconds for Phil to change the track rod ends. He is skilled with a hammer. Meanwhile, new rubber! Nokian Weatherproof. I bought these with actual money and look forward to testing them. Are they really weatherproof? Another knackered bit here. This anti-roll bar drop link is utterly shafted. You can easily rattle it by hand. Same as Accord, so that'll be the next thing I have to bloody order. Thought I'd make the most of a bit of ramp time and added even more Dyanx UB anti-rot stuff. It's had a good soaking now. Lastly, lasers. I also got the chap to quickly tack the heat shield back on to the front silencer. It's getting dangerously refined now. Certainly seems to be driving nicely again. Will have to see how it behaves in the rain now, but it was certainly well stuck on the drive home. Off to The Midlands again tomorrow. RoadworkUK Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I really think it's high time 3 spoke wheels made a comeback. I think Range Rover should be first in line. Then Rolls Royce. Fabergé Greggs, Ghosty and brickwall 3
dollywobbler Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 I really like them. They definitely suit this car. Shame they're utterly, utterly shagged though. Turns out diamond cut alloys are a pretty bad idea. They sound nightmarish to sort out again too, so I doubt I'll bother. Maybe I need a set of steelies and a nice* set of Halfords wheel trims. RoadworkUK and chaseracer 2
Snipes Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Use to hear good things about Nokian winter tyres when I was in the trade a couple of years ago
