Congrats on the new addition to your family. Very intrigued by this one - I'm not sure that, despite my 41 years, I've ever witnessed one of these in their GRP and steel glory. Keep the updates coming (and announce yourself on the OP's original thread on RR as the new custodian!)

Great buy Skizzer, Mumbles must now be classified as a shite hotspot in all good travel guides.

My Rancho memory is of a green one that was for years and years parked next to Victoria Park in Worthing... Mr. HillmanImp may also remember it.

Sierra Base and Matra Rancho in the same year. Just incredible. Where does Autoshite go from here?

Don't forget the 316 too...

Alright it's not a 316e (we failed!).

This Rancho is FLIPPING EPIC though. WE NEED MOAR PICS.

I was slightly nervous when I clicked on this - the last time I looked there was radio silence so I worried that something had gone wrong which would have been tragic!

But no, you have it! Splendid!

A RANCHO!  :-D

If you need any bits let me know as one of my contacts in France has a few of these and has broken one recently.

Always liked the look of these, and had the model of it years ago. I have still never seen one up close, only in the distance while driving, some years ago.

Good luck with the project, hope there are not too many nasty surprises.

Marvellous. I think l saw one on the A2 about 20 years ago. There's just something about a Rancho that sticks in the mind. I had a model one too.Good luck.

What I want to know is when is it coming home? Just so I can be sat on the motorway bridge, down the road, to watch it going past. I promise not to hang any banners from the bridge, or drop the champagne bottle over.

Amazing.  Like all others on here, it was my favorite toy car as a kid.  I really want a play with it!

I was in Mumbles the other day btw - SUPER nice Suzuki GS250 parked outside a shop on the main road...

Good job. Well done. Although I still like the Chinese copy earlier in the thread. Happy fixing.

So to recap, you now own a brown Rancho. It's got replacement parts for most of the rusty bits, it's more complete (spotlamps) than you thought, and it runs.

You lucky bugger.

One of the two guys that ran our youth club had one in about 1988. The other had a silver Chevette HSR (I reckon it was a replica), all the lads into cars would perv over the Chevette but I was all over the Rancho like a cheap suit....

Soon you'll be just like this gezzer waving to his dealer whilst on his way to score some hardcore class A.

Thanks for all the comments and encouragement.

Man, I can see why the Normans didn't get to Wales until the 12th century, turns out it's a bloody long drive from Hastings. Left there about half past three and only just got home: God knows how long it'll take with a trailer.

So are you going to do what I would do?

Ha! I did think about it, but I'm not sure I've got the stones to drive it 260 miles to a pre-booked MOT.

I'm not on Retro Rides but that's a good idea - he had some fans in there mainly from the Cortina resto he did, so it would be nice to continue the story. The Cortina is just stunning, by the way: Y-reg 2.0 GL estate in non-metallic blue, mint without being over-polished.

Good to know, thanks!

Good question: I wanted to pick it up at th weekend but I can't source a trailer until Tuesday. I'm knackered after 13 hours driving, which will be 15+ hours at trailer speeds, so I might stop overnight somewhere. So meet for coffee at Sarn or Cardiff West services on Wednesday morning?

That's about right! It's got some pretty impressive holes in the sills mind, so it all depends on your definition of lucky :-) V happy with it though.

Couple more pics for now, lots more when I collect it.

I thought of you when I saw the Tina, Trig, it's got your name written all over it. I'd definitely drive that to a pre-booked MOT, too.

Late to the party, as usual, but I just wanted to say - Well done for sealing the deal. Simply fantastic.
