Collection of 26 year old estate for trip to Brittany on Monday morning.

I'm beginning to feel vehicularly underdressed, ahead of my lass and I's forthcoming drive to Correze in a 1994 k11 Micra.

Hmmm....5 pot auto gusto or raucous austerity...?

My envy is greener than the moss growing on the N/S face of the Micra.

First class motoring Sir.

Top buy! I was actually looking for a 100 Avant of some sort in 2003, but ended up with The Volvo, as there were no decent examples within easy travelling distance on eBay at the time.

However, I don't regret buying the car at all, as it's been a joy to own; I'm certain that it's one 26 year old estate car which would make it to Brittany (and back) with no problems :)

Believe these are a three speed. Not sure if there's a lock up torque converter though. That'd give the illusion of four speeds.

Nice buy! Should be ideal for the trip.

Had, some time ago, the saloon version, in 200 turbo flavour.................excellent vehicles

It's actually a blue Citroen AX, it just looks like an Audi due to the light and the camera angle.

That looks ace :)

Terrific! An H-reg too. MotherYoof had a white 2.3 Avant (E-reg) for a few years.

Simply gargantuan, gopping, and cavernous and hideous. A 2.0 10v 3spd auto sounds truly marvellous too.

Fantastic purchase.

I got it right! Yay!

Excellent choice Mr Weigh - all owners of H-reg auto 2.0E Audis that colour are very superior beings, in my entirely unbiased* opinion.

These things are a blatant rip-off of the FE Victor estate styling wise.

Plus, James Bond drove one while spying on Russians, so it must be good:

Brittany eh? Between J40 & 39 on A84 look left and give us a wave.

Big hammers, ramps and engine hoist here if needed :) Which won't be needed, tough old wagons these.

Oh, and if you've got time the olde road that runs sort of parallel to the A84 is the real France. loads of chod spotting to be had, I was on a bit of it today and spotted an R16, C35 and a sixties R4.

Montego GSi

I don't think I've ever even seen one and I've had:

1990 2.0 Gti estate- brand new company car.

1992 2.0 DTurbo Countryman. " " .

1987 2.0 Efi Van den Plas estate ex Mototune demo car.

1989 1.6 L estate.

So I'm a bit partial to a Montego estate

GR8 Pickup i bought a saloon one of these about 3 weeks back in 2.3e flavour, This is the same colour as mine too pal.

I made a collection thread but at 1am and during the 2016 AS data earthqauke so not many saw it!

Im loving mine personally, Old giff left two cans of touch up paint in the boot so if you need a can for this (and it is the same hue) gimme a shout and you can have it for a bit of postage!

Just out of curiosity what did you pay? mine was £600 but its got a short mot.. PM me if youd rather not shout it from the houses

Realisticly with mine im about 650 in and if it is fubar in septmeber the level of interest in this means i might get a bit back if its OHNOMOTKAOS

Thanks . :boomer:

Thanks for the paint offer, I've only seen it briefly in daylight when I viewed it, tomorrow I'll be giving it a good check over and clean up, so might take you up on that.

You should do a thread on your one again, It doesn't look as if lost topics are coming back.

Mine is only a 2.0 , an auto at that, so no ball of fire. I paid £395 , which was the asking price, I didn't have the cheek to try and chip him down- the first time I ve done that in, actually, ever!

The fact I can't get European breakdown cover, because it's over 25 means I might have to take you up on that.

You'll be fine. I'm working local to A84 J39 tomorrow so could assist if needed.

Speed cops are active around Avranches in the 90kph section btw...

So far, so good.post-17414-0-31750800-1470642858_thumb.jpeg

Little bit concerned when the coolant light came on after 10 mins! But water level and temp ok and the light hasn't come on since. Once in France will only be going at 60 odd mph because apparently that's all Sistet-in-laws Jazz can manage.

Safe trip! Frankly, European breakdown cover is barely worth having on cheap chod. Was reading through the terms and conditions of mine, and it's pretty much 'we'll drag it to a random garage, but recovery is only up to the value of the car.' That'll get me about halfway down the road then I suspect! Gaffer tape and a few cable ties it is then.

2 rolls of gaffer tape, a bungee strap, some green garden cable ties , a Lidl socket set and a towrope. Pretty comprehensive, huh?

I'm sure a Jazz is more than capable of towing an Audi back to Calais if need be.

Seriously , it's performed perfectly, only issue seems to be a little weep from the pas pump. Predictably I love it and want to keep it, the plan was to use it , tart it up a bit and chance my arm on Car and Classic. Space and wife reasons might mean the e34's days on the fleet might be numbered though.

^You forgot the other one......... a couple of wire coathangers.

Nice car tho' - from the days when Audi made seriously decent strong cars that lasted. Shame they have degenerated into ugly posing wagons for obnoxious pretentious jackasses now.

Like your car alot but wouldn't be seen dead in a new (or new-ish) one.

Good work!  Our new (1999) Volvo V70 diesel just made the holiday trip to Nantes and back with running around in between.  That's 550 miles each way so it didn't need a fuel stop either.

A week or two before the holiday we were on the M25 and saw some "crazy, wacky" kids on one of these banger rallies.  All of their cars were newer than my Volvo, goodness knows what they'd have made of your Audi, probably an escapee from one of those living steam museums or something.

I'm sure you could have negotiated down based on those wheel trims, but otherwise remarkably well bought!

Ok, we're back, sooner than intended. Holiday a disaster, Audi a triumph.

Did about 2,000 miles and it didn't miss a beat, no oil or water needed. Had a slight weep from a pas pipe so topped up the reservoir to max, that hasn't moved either. Incidentally €5 for a litre of Total ATF from a supermarket -£7 for 500ml in Tesco garage!

Bit noisy compared to my Merc but it has got less than half the number of gears, apart from that it felt like a modern car. Even my daughters were impressed, pronouncing it the most comfortable and roomy back seat since our old Chrysler 300 Touring.

I just can't get my head around 1990 vintage cars being 26 year old machines by now.

Heck, next year people born in 2000 can drive them!

I am making myself depressed by:

A. Reminding myself what I was up to Dec 1991

B. Coming to terms with the fact, not sticking in/getting qualified, I couldn't buy this Toyota new then

C. Someone else has swanned around in such a delightful carriage... All Those Years :(

Making up for it now, though ;)
