As mentioned in the Grin thread, I went to Putney this afternoon to see a car for my family holiday next week.

I bought it, but had to come back home 2 1/2 hours in Friday night traffic to get someone to pick it up with me.

Just leaving now, eats, according to Waze 21.34.

It's 1990 and an auto with no Aircon. More clues if I can post on phone.

Merc W124? Nah, too obvious - I'm going with Audi 100 Avant in 5-cylinder CD flavour.

YES! Here I am planning exactly the same sort of thing. Less than two weeks until we go to France, and I want to buy something to do the trip in. I wish you good luck and bon voyage. Whatever it is.

I'm going to go left-field and left-hooker. Chevrolet Caprice.

Already said that, when NNW trailed this thread.

I'm back, it cruised at 80 , although the speedo doesn't work much. It occaisionaly springs into life and appears accurate when it does. The illumination on the voltmeter, oil pressure gauge and oil temperature doesn't work, the other 4 gauges are well lit . The digital clock doesn't work at all.

The only obvious problem is a noisy o/s/r wheel bearing, which to be fair was an advise on 2 previous MOTs- although not today's !

One person has got it right , so far.

How many left? reckons 4 on the road in this spec and year , with only 40 or 50 of all types.

I will reveal all once my phone has synced with my iPad and pictures are available.

Numerous dials out of cars mentioned above I think only the Carlton had more than the usual temp and petrol gauges with tach and speed.

It's a 1990 Audi 100 2.0E Avant . iIt seems to be a 5 cylinder with a 3 speed auto although it might be a 4 speed I really can't tell!

It's done 107,000 miles ,but it's been showing that for a couple of years, the seller thinks maybe 113,000. He only lives in the UK for a few months each year.

One of the weirdest car purchases I've made , he wouldn't fill in the logbook in case I change my mind or discover a problem. I've got to call him tomorrow to say I'm happy with it.

It was on Gumtree and I just happened to see it and call within 5 minutes of him listing, he reckons he's got a list of 13 people to call back, which seems likely, one guy called whilst we were on a test drive, not see whether I'd bought it or not, apparently he was 3rd or 4th reserve if I didn't want it!

It's quite straight body wise, drives nicely apart from wheel bearing drone over 60, which he's probably never heard as he only drives it from Putney to Roehampton Tescos.

Not too low geared 3,500 rpm is about 77/78mph so should be ok on Autoroute.

I've ordered a wheel bearing kit from GSF ( £11.60) and daughters are picking it up at 09.00 tomorrow and going to try and get Zubin at my preferred part worn tyre cheap mechanic place to sort it, I'm working from 5 till abou 8 tomorrow night.post-17414-0-26706500-1470439499_thumb.jpegpost-17414-0-87785000-1470439528_thumb.jpeg

GR8 Pickup i bought a saloon one of these about 3 weeks back in 2.3e flavour, This is the same colour as mine too pal.

I made a collection thread but at 1am and during the 2016 AS data earthqauke so not many saw it!

Im loving mine personally, Old giff left two cans of touch up paint in the boot so if you need a can for this (and it is the same hue) gimme a shout and you can have it for a bit of postage!

Just out of curiosity what did you pay? mine was £600 but its got a short mot.. PM me if youd rather not shout it from the houses

Realisticly with mine im about 650 in and if it is fubar in septmeber the level of interest in this means i might get a bit back if its OHNOMOTKAOS

Thanks . :boomer:

I just can't get my head around 1990 vintage cars being 26 year old machines by now.

Heck, next year people born in 2000 can drive them!
