dollywobbler Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 It's been an adventure, that's for sure. And not just for me! Dollygate report will be forthcoming in my Rover thread. Junkman, oldcars and beko1987 3
Dave_Q Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I also did a few photos. First, the AS cars. Other things I seen and liked: 80s judging 90s judging I quite like the last one, my Impreza, Cleon-Fonte's BX and the C43 (soz didn't get your name), gracing the same stage as an actual Ferrari and a megabarry MR2. Last one is some VW thing I saw at Birch services on the way back. trigger, strangeangel, brownnova and 9 others 12
worldofceri Posted September 4, 2016 Author Posted September 4, 2016 Glad everyone had fun. Makes those hours I slaved over the typewriter worthwhile. Nice to meet a few new shiteists for the first time. Annoyed that the AA took nearly three hours to come to the Pleasure Wagon's rescue, but at least I can have a drink on Joe. Cheers mate. brownnova, Junkman, chaseracer and 3 others 6
Ghosty Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 That's a VW 412 Variant! Nice, and good to see it's not been dubbermonged either.
Skizzer Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Wow, you mean you weren't stuck in the far corner of a separate field this time? How many other clubs refused to be next to us? Great that we had some fine and/or rare steeds to liven up proceedings. (And, er, failure-to-proceedings.) Oh, and that gold SD1 with the Celtic love symbol alloys is absolutely hideous. Conrad D. Conelrad Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Wow, you mean you weren't stuck in the far corner of a separate field this time? How many other clubs refused to be next to us? We were bordering the arena, which initially seemed like a prime spot until we realised we were about a meter from the megaphone speakers. sporty-shite, Dave_Q, davidfowler2000 and 4 others 7

We were right next to the "arena", not sure how that compares to previous years. The SD1 also had something like "TOP BOY" in big gold letters at the bottom of the windscreen. Verdict: Just no. Justin Case Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 So, what with several cars not even making it to the start, so many cars FTPing that I lost count plus assorted batterings, it seem that the only vehicle not to disgrace itself was a C15 van which didn't even qualify for the event. Even by Autoshite standards this must surely be a result. Cleon-Fonte, beko1987, Junkman and 4 others 7

Great that we had some fine and/or rare steeds to liven up proceedings. (And, er, failure-to-proceedings.) Oh, and that gold SD1 with the Celtic love symbol alloys is absolutely hideous. That gold SD1 is a 2600. It had a rear window louvre and Vitesse spoiler. There was a blue one with the same wheels too that looked as bad.Don't talk about them to Cleon-Fonte. We had a prime spot - we were equally baffled. The furthest corners were occupied by the pre war cars, and the OSF section. No clubs took objection to us, however... Junkman and I had just arrived, with Chaseracer and Conrad not long behind us. In front of them were a well-to-do couple in an early 2000s Jaguar XJ. They got in the way a bit while we were parking up, and Chaseracer asked them to park elsewhere so we could all be together. They refused and parked up next to JM's 405, then when the Picnic Tables parked they decided they wanted to move, tried to park behind us, then buggered off altogether to the 'not quite normal' parking. We also had a random interloper in an R129 Merc SL, but after a while they buggered off elsewhere too. danthecapriman Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 This sounded like an absolute disaster! What happened to the Ramrod mobile? Surely not the new starter motor!

brownnova Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Despite the bumper cars antics, I had a great time today! I arrived nice and early... Thank goodness I wasn't first! The blue Visa guided me in. A few more arrived not too long after Eddy's arrival in the judging arena hearalded our first foray into the competitive action. It's arrival pushed by at least 8 Shiters set the tone for the day. One of my favourite shots of the day... no Junkman's not been run over... Sports car and convertible judging. Active avoidance from 'Mr Talks-bollocks' A small while later several of us lined up to photograph our car of the show... oh no wait, it was Dollywobbler's breakdown ride We gave the 80s section our all And no we haven't all broken down... our 90s tactic was to wow* the judges with our engines I've got some more from round the show, but they can wait till I'm on the computer, as uploading from mobile is a PITA. Good to put some faces to names, and it's great to find you're all top folks in real life too! johngarty, vulgalour, Junkman and 7 others 10

dollywobbler Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I believe so... Nay. Starter ring gear appears to be the problem.

eddyramrod Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Don't worry, Huggy made it home! The starter motor isn't the problem, it's the ring gear that it drives. That was Junkman's early diagnosis, with which I concur, having suffered the same a lifetime ago on my Anglia. RML produced a correctly-sized socket and a breaker bar, with which Herr Junk turned the crank pulley, and therefore the crank, a few degrees, enough to find good teeth for the starter to mesh with. Success! I subsequently scoured the tat stalls, trying to replicate the equipment, and spent rather more money than I wanted/intended, but at least now I can turn the crank if it happens again. Which I've already proved on the field. Top bunch of blokes, all round. If I failed to introduce myself to any of you, I'm sorry, I wasn't being rude, promise! The pushing episode, which could so easily have been horrible, is one of those things I can laugh about already. It seemed to set the tone for the day! Never mind, brekky was good enough, Huggy did the 260-mile round trip effortlessly, and I got to put some faces to names. Win-win. AMC Rebel, Junkman, Grundig and 10 others 13
