Spotted for sale on the streets - Toyota Carina Corona Cadaver E part II etc

I saw this for sale in one of those long parade of vehicles for sale which shouldn't be there but the seller has used different fonts for the adverts and different numbers so the council can't prosecute him for something or other.

No rust, velour, sump a bit oily, I think these had the least breakdowns out of any car in the 90's. Engine is 16v fuel injection 4-AFE. Ad says 'offers over 100'

Mrs TW had a G plate hatch one of these when I met her. Lovely car, and built like a brick in a faeces store. What's with the covering up of the phone number though - have you bought it? If not, I'd imagine the banger crew will be all over it pretty quickly at that sort of money.

Edit: She had a Corolla. Is the Carina a slightly bigger car, or is it a booted 'Rolla? Confused.

Edit again: 74k on the clock and MOT until October. Advisories are real small fry. Clearly giffer owned until recently.

Covered the number up as its a public forum, if you want it pm me.

It's on the Wirral.

Carina was the European name of the Corona, although the Corona was sold here as well from memory. Same chassis as the Corolla, like the Astra and Cavalier.

Not sure how similar the Toyota 4-AFE is to the Yamaha 4-AGE?

Insurance has come back at a very reasonable price.

I am very tempted.

It's Toyota's T-platform which isn't the same as the Corolla/e-chassis. Independent rear suspension, 5 stud wheels etc.

If I recall the cylinder head and Pistons are different. Easier to get a cheap Celica and do a complete 3SGE/2.0 litre engine swap if you're so inclined.

Oh ay.

I got a missed call from a girl I've been speaking to, so rang her back but it was this fella selling the car, replying to a text message from yesterday. He accepted my offer and I said I'd come round now.

The seller was an nice elderly gent who had just bought a new (2006) Corolla, had worked in the trade for 60 years, bought it in 2004 off an old man who had to stop driving who sold it on the promise it would go to a good home. He's really looked after it, and had to go for the Corolla as his joints couldn't handle the pedals anymore. It's had a recent clutch, cam belt and exhaust. No dents or rust on it anywhere, everything works, he said it has never broken down since he's had it.

In the typical autoshite tradition, one of these has been on my want list for ages, it's boring but totally reliable, economical and nice to drive.

Two hours later I phoned the girl back but she didn't answer. :(

... it's boring....

It might have been boring in it's day, but now there aren't many about its interesting!

If/when you come to sell this could be exactly the thing to replace my modern daily driver with! So I call first dibs!

That's great, love the cut up carpet mats. I'd deffo have one of these.

One of those trays is where I discovered my Dad's adult reading* materials aged 9. Happy Days!

That is very nice, so nice that you have now got me browsing the internet for other Carinas.

If brownnova doesn't want it when you want to sell it, feel free to send me a message.

As mentioned above well done, that looks great.

Bargain and very well bought. There's one of these around the corner of my in laws that never moves which belongs to a old boy, they look quite attractive now.

I might be getting one on Thursday night. I previously had the ae92 corolla with the same engine, it felt relatively quick.

It was much 'over' 100, I didn't get it for 100. Two other people had wanted it, it had been parked there two hours!

To my mind, those Carina's are quite possibly one of the greatest cars ever built.

Well bought.

That looks superb and well looked after. What a peach. Well found and bought. I bet every switch still works.

There is a road test for a Carina 2 16 valve in Triggers retro roadtests.

Old boy I used to work with had one of these; replaced it with a Honda Logo (who!?). The Carina became a driveway ornament. I shouldn't be surprised if it still is, even eight years later.

I bet if this had been for sale in Ipswich, Trigger would have been all over it like a tramp on a bag of chips. It looks seriously well bought there

I don't think he would have been the only one.
