It is people like you who wash their cars that make it rain in the first place...... no one washes their cars in Spain and look at their weather....

I let the rain wash the car, no soap, bucket or elbow grease !

Always wanted to try it, but I can't apply my Sonax BSD in the rain.  8)

Your going to get wet washing it anyway (if you get enthusiastic like I do) so you might as well wash it in the rain so you don't have to apply the water as often.

Plus, when its not rainy there are sunny weather jobs to do, so why waste time on jobs that can be done in the rain?

yes.i've done this.... usually i have started to wash something and then it has started to rain after i have started to wash.

in a situatiuon like that "i've started and i'm going to finish" applies, and to hell with what anyone else thinks...

it is worse when i've washed, dried and then started to polish a car, and then the rain starts.

bloody england in the summer!

That stuff is great, beading is mad. Also keeps the car cleaner in the winter, muck does not stick as much.

I try to, but it always manages to stop raining before the suds are rinsed off.

Happens every time.

I just washed the RAV4 in the rain. Not an enjoyable experience, though it really did hammer it down towards the end. Not sure why I bothered rinsing it.

With me it usually starts just when I am about to start polishing off the wax.....

The guy up the road from where we were living before used to wash his car twice a week, proper valet job. Despite this he had a rust patch about the size of a fist on the sill and he'd got the cheapest shittiest 'love you long time' tyres fitted to it - he must have gone to the tyre depot and said 'get me the fucking crappest tyres you can get'. When I used to walk past I used to think washing and polishing it were the least of his problems.

On the other hand my cars are rarely washed but mechanically I look after them. I've yet to be late for work due to not having washed it that weekend.

My default setting is washing vehicles in the rain because Scotland.

I even have to wash my own post van, I am yet to attempt the executive coach as I'd need a set of step-ladders and one of grabby arm things for the sponge to get the roof cleaned

chap with a company car who I used to work with would rush out with the cilit bang when it rained.

Feel sorry for the poor fuck who bought that when it came up at auction

I've started doing this, being that I live in the wettest part of the country. Rainwater is usually better for rinsing (unless it's loaded with saharan sand) - it's the lack of limescale in it that means there's no residue when it drys. And if it's raining when I start and still raining when I finish soaping it, I've saved myself two steps.

Today's perfect for car washing, free soak and rinse in soft water - perfick, you just have to do the wash cycle in the time allowed. I try to do mine three or four times a year, which is seen as a bit OCD by the natives.

I once worked at a place and we'd got a new van to add to a fleet of say 3 vans, so we asked for a few quid for some sponges etc to clean it down. Might I add here, they'd requested we keep the exterior of the van clean - understandably.

Wouldn't give us the time of the day they guy we had in charge, he was one of these that had done a degree in something like 'Fine Art' and wound up in charge of a shop. Anyway verdict from him was we'd have to make do with whatever we could find in the warehouse. On the occasions since I've washed my own cars though I've never done it with the yard broom, a mop bucket and something called 'spirit' that's more commonly used in floor cleaners. I've seen the finish it gives and in all honesty I cannot recommend it.

Fully agree with the OP.

I've done it many times as you don't need to rinse or dry for a streak free finish. Call it the lazy man's way but it works.

Ah, a lovely car washing thread.  Wait, washing cars in the rain?  YARD BRUSHES!  *nervous tic intensifies*

Washed both of ours in the pouring rain today, saves rinsing as people have said.

It's probably the only time the goona will get washed, I just wanted to see exactly how bad the bodywork is...

I live in Scotland, I either wash the car in the rain or the car doesn't get washed.

I've done the Wash the van with a Broom thing before.

For an even better finish, use a leaky dustbin in place of a bucket.

I think I've only been caught out by the rain once and even then I was only buffing wax off of the last panel. I tend to not even bother setting stuff up without checking the weather first.

^^^^

And which part of the country do you live in? I'll move anywhere in Britain that's got a lower incidence of trench foot
