All Vauxhalls R Shit - They really are... Game over.

Obviously this is pretty bloody horrible, but noone died. Up your security and take it as a lesson.

The only problem is some innocent motorist or pedestrian could have died, considering the dangerous nature of the driving to destroy chevrons and crash into another car, no doubt the scrotes in question don't have a smidgen of remorse

Indeed, but suggesting acts of violence against said scrotes isn't going to improve anything. There are nasty folk in the world. You can't change them, so it's best just to regroup and try to get on with life.

Hirst is absolutely right, and given how 'safe' where I live is, I get far to lax about security, especially when I head to more populated places. Didn't Auto Express run a feature in the 1980s pointing out that you could steal a Nova in four seconds flat? Frankly, I think it's quicker to get in and drive off if you don't have the key than if you do.

I was a bit lax with security if I'm honest, i grew up in a little village where people didn't lock their doors and sadly I'm still in that mentality a bit, i guess this was inevitable at some point, i live near a main road with a rough estate not too far away so anyone can see what I've got around the front of the house.

I'm going to look into moving now although finding somewhere with a good sized garage and parking is the biggest hurdle.

This scum will get their day, there's plenty of stories about them and their family i keep hearing but i can't really share it on here.

It is a fact that car crime is the lowest it's been for many years. So while everyone is right and entitled to be absolutely furious about what's happened to the Astra and the bastards responsible, all the UKIP stuff about how society has gone to hell in a handcart and how it wouldn't have happened "back in the day" when PC Plod could give wayward juveniles a clip round the ear, isn't really a logical reaction.

When I was about 2, we lived in a particularly shit bit of Birmingham. Pretty much every Saturday morning, my dad would get a phonecall from Plod asking him to go and collect his car from wherever it had been dumped that Friday night.

Anyway, surely a replacement of similar vintage is on the cards?

Can we not let this thread slide into an argument please.

Discussion taken offline into a PM, as it should have been by the other chap.

A lot of the time I think living just off a main road is worse than living on the main road, they have the cover just off the main road up a side road where as on the main road they would be seen by everyone

it put up with 5 hours of being thrashed, crashing into stuff, playing chicken with a lorry and doing handbrake turns and burn outs everywhere

5 HOURS ???!!!

I thought a chopper was in the sky!

That's really nice. Any idea who it was?

New Autoshite trend: sending people Feu Orange via the post anonymously.

And can I just say, this is very sad and I am not making light of it in the slightest - but an Astra MK2 has been stolen by joyriders and set alight in the woods.

Only Trigger would be a victim of a retro crime.

I've been having a right gut full of it over the last day. First i find out the police have had to drop the case on the two joyriders due to lack of evidence (No doubt due to them burning the car out), and now today i get awaken from my sleep after a night shift by my insurance company to say that they feel that the car is only worth £550 (bearing in mind my £150 excess has to come out of that as well) as they have found others for sale for £400 and mine worth a bit more as i done the cambelt.

Great. So I've spent the last hour hunting around on online trying to find others in the same condition for more money which isn't easy as there aren't any.

Wasn't there a red one on eBay recently that was advertised at over £1k?

Yes, £1500, I've emailed them a copy of that one plus a £995 1.4 Expression I've seen on Autotrader. I'll have to see what they come back with now.

At least those two may make them realise how much it was worth, instead of that insult of an offer.

It may also be worth having a look at a Mk2 Astra forum to see roughly how much cars in a similar condition were going for on there, just to support your argument.

It's weird because a few of us were about to sell our Astras on Gumtree for about £1200.

Weren't we lads ?

Nice gesture with the Feu Orange  :-D

Re the Insurance claim, I reckon it's an opening gambit from them to see if you accept. Hold out for more, out of interest when they asked Market value for the quote/renewal what did you say? When my 21 Turbo Quadra caught fire (accident) they found the cheapest one for sale at the time (around £500) and offered me that. I said no and found one for sale for £2500 (albeit a minter). They then said you have an agreed value (which I didn't) of £2000 (the value I quoted when getting the quote etc) and paid me out on that. Of course that was over 10 years ago and your insurance company could be different. Worth an ask though.

Posted

I told them it was worth £1000 and she said that again today, "You said it's worth £1000 but paid £700 before doing the work on it, I've found one the same age and model as yours but it's done 1000 miles less and that's £400 so i think yours is worth £550...".  :-(

This is precisely why agreed value insurance is a must - so that least whilst these two fuckers are out on bail pissing it up, you have 1500 quid to play with. Sorry I can't be more constructive, but to anyone with a pre 1997 car - do it now for Christs sake.

This all sucks ass big time, apart from the Feu Orange obvs.

You've taken it all remarkably well as far as typing things online goes, I'd be going on a massive angry rant with only a capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end.

For every one that can be found cheep there will also be an expensive one to prove otherwise, it's just a case of arguing the toss and trying to come out of this without being out of pocket.

I think I posted on the previous thread that was deleted in the great data mangle, but I'm really sorry Trig. What a shit situation all round.
