Enjoy your classic for Drive It Day tomorrow

It looks like a few of us are going to a car meet at the Bears grill in Lenwade, Norfolk tomorrow morning.

Bugger, if I'd known I'd have brought the old Bedford but I'm up in Lincs at the mo getting it mot'ed.

What time's the car meet Trig?  In the highly unlikely event that I can get myself organised tomorrow morning (and if it's not pissing down) I might trundle up in the CX.  I need to run it into Norwich anyway to fill up with LPG.

I might also try and take the Renault 6 for a cheeky blez round the block if the battery will play ball.  Not too far though 'cos no MOT.

9.30am onwards i think. The postcode is NR9 5SW. It would be great to see the CX! I'll be taking the Audi of despair.

Audi 80 will be in action as I have to go to Illfracombe to watch my son play Rugby.

If clear I might be able to see Skizzer's 80 in Wales.

Completely forgot about DiD.   Probably because work.

Which is ironic because its the first time this year I haven't taken the Minor.

Came in this instead - its older than it was last year and a bit rustier so that will have to do....

My Golf scraped through an MOT on Friday but alas it will not be taxed until next week. So nothing for me today. :-(

Just driven home from a nightshift. Saw an AC Ace and a convoy of 60s Jags out and about. Made me very happy.

I shall give the 205 a spin, seeing as I have failed yet again to have the Dyane ready...  :)

Ah, this would explain why I saw Princess Anne driving some of her Scimitars on the A12 yesterday.

On me hols, in the time warp that is the Isle of White. Found a meeting for the Vectis historic car club, going to see what they make of an Avantime.

And the suns out...

I'll pop out for a run in the Somerset this afternoon. Nowhere special, probably down the length of Southend seafront and on to Old Leigh before heading back. The weather is a bit iffy today, but there should be a few classics out. If it's like last year, it'll be mostly Sherpa Sports/Triumph TRs and Morris Minors, though if I'm lucky I might see some more interesting stuff.

Currently laid up in bed with lungs that are doing a fair resemblance of the drums in the Vaisakhi parade at the bottom of our road.

Even if I was well, I couldn't drive "it" anywhere.

All me old cars are dead and aren't road legal. In the four years of classic car ownership I think I've only managed one DiD...

I had to drive Mrs.F to the airport this morning. All my proper* classics* are broken, so I decided to take the 214.

Drove 250 miles and only spotted five pre-2000 cars : a minty 2002 cabriolet, a slightly scene'd Golf I cabrio, a Junkman-spec P6 V8, a Ford Model A (disappointingly on a trailer - TOW IT DAY) and a ratlook 1970s T2 driven by dollywobbler's doppelganger.

I went out for an hour today, nowhere specific and I wasn't meeting anyone or anything so I just got some petrol and drive out into the South Downs countryside, randomly!

The plan was to use the Mercury but in the end I decided to use the Granada since it's been sat unused for months.

Pulled over for a few pics.

It was a lovely sunny morning and nice and quite on the roads. Saw a Lotus Europa, large contingent of Mini's, a Minor soft top, VW bay window camper, Rover P6 and unbelievably a Panhard!

Got plenty of waves or nods too from other oldies which is always nice to have, even if what your driving is a scabby battered old turd!

Business as usual really, but spied a black H-reg BX on the way here!

I had a job too far away to go home and slept in this on Friday night. Parked on someone's drive I was vulnerable to comments from caravanning experts. One said "it wouldn't be my choice of tow car". Well mate, your misses wouldn't be my choice of fuck, but I'm not so ungracious as to voice my opinion. Surprisingly, the MGB is 300kg heavier than the caravan but considerably lighter than his wife.

This will soon be too - last chance to see it in 'as-found' condition :) Good work Eddy. As you said, some of these should be saved.

Not haunted, but my son said it looked like a vampires car.

JM might know; Do P5s ever become haunted? This one had a strong presence. Sorry.

Drove mine into the neighbours wall, have now discovered an absolute horror show of plod and rot. Currently dumped on the drive, have put it up for sale on eBay and RR. NOT HAPPY :(

Went to the Hartlepool car show, spent a bit of time there then moved onto the Vintage bus malarkey going on in Middlesbrough, which they had put on specifically for drive it day.

Managed to get this fantastic photo of Middlesbrough in 1978

I overslept this morning and completely missed the cars setting off to Bicester from barely a mile from my house.  Eventually, mainly from curiosity, I took the 205 for a run to Nether Winchendon and back to see how many classics were out and about.  My curiosity extended to keeping an eye on the 205's possible head gasket problem.  There seemed to be a lot more classics around than last year.  I must have seen at least 10 Jaguars including 3 x Etype and 1 x Stype.  The other Jags were MK2s.  Then a large Daimler Majestic serenely glided past, a couple of Triumph 2000s, a batch of TR6s, a very nice Herald Saloon, a brutal looking Japanese sports saloon (maybe a Skyline, but it did not quite fit my mental picture of one), an ancient pre war taxi parked near a pub and numerous assorted cars in the 205's category i.e. old, but still common enough to be only mildly interesting.

I'll inspect the 205's coolant level when it has cooled down, though it ran perfectly for the round trip of about 55 miles.  So comfortable compared with the Tipo.

4.107/8 powered Minx a rare gem. These engines were fitted in large numbers truck fridge units here and in the States, also used in the Massey 130 tractor. I was always surprised how few made it into cars which was what i believe they were originally designed for.
