Big weekend collection (a cautionary tale p2)

I suppose I should start by saying I'm a massive pansy when it comes to collecting cars from long distances, but hopefully this will make up for it.

I've agreed to buy (sight unseen) something that I've wanted for a long time. A suitable example came up for sale in the Kingdom of Fife, and I decided to have a cheeky bid. I've just won it. Damn. It's about 460 miles away, but inspired by threads such as Adrian's (rml2345) Xantia collection, and after speaking to the seller, I decided it was doable.

Fortunately, Fatha_AD has agreed to be co-driver for the trip. We'll be sharing the driving up in his Rover 600, which I'm quite looking forward to as it's a very comfortable long distance car and something I haven't really had the opportunity to drive far in before. The plan is to pick up the new vehicle at around 2:30, then start the long journey south, probably stopping off overnight in the borders before completing the journey on Sunday. Unlike rml and Fatha_rml, neither of us are hardy enough to complete the journey in one day!

Naturally, said tat is very old, undesirable and this particular example has the benefit* of one month's MoT, non-existent service history and possibly standing idle for weeks on end. It's not fast, either, so the journey back is likely to be very long.

Nonetheless, the Rover has received an oil change and a tank of fuel for the trip, and is loaded up with sleeping bags, blankets, food and more tools and fluids than an RAC van. If it does FTP, we intend to try to get it going again. Fingers crossed it won't come to that though!

The journey tomorrow (one way):

Indeed, I shall attempt live updates though it's dependent on my phone's crappy internet signal.

I think I have worked out what you have won. I won't spoil it but as you say it will be a very leisurely journey home! Well done on the purchase!

Good luck Richard. The 600 looks lovely, subtle giffering too with the grille badge!

Heading north is always good, all fine cars are in the north!

Have a nice trip!

Good luck and if you need to break the return journey near J14 of the M1 , call in for a cuppa and your dad can visit his old 600

I don't know what's so impressive about picking a car up from Fife, I did it last month and I was home in time for lunch.

I care not for guessing. I shall just await developments. Sounds a fantastic adventure.

Well AngryDicky has excellent taste, so to make him undertake a rather epic collection jaunt it must be something quite special. Good luck sir.

Rover P4? Are there tickets/prize on this?

Just landed in Kirkcaldy, a bit later than expected but we made it with only a bit of traffic on the A92. Just got supplies at Asda, and we're about to leave for the seller's house. I intend to get petrol, at which stage I will try to upload some pictures of said tat, then find a post office that is open to tax the beast :)
