Ford Sierra-A few problems!!

It's the only good thing our council has done. It's currently shutting two local leisure centres - bunch of s*******

Steve

A lot of those 'savings' are probably paying for former council employees' gold plated pensions. :-(

I’m amazed they’ve built you a new garage! I’d have thought they would have sold the land off for development.

Posted

I thought the same, at least down in the SE where I'm from every council seems keen to pull down their garage blocks and replace with yet more flats, shoehorned in with not enough parking.

Fair play to Caerphilly council for bucking the trend where garages are concerned. And making them a decent size to accommodate today's bloated cars!

Knowing the council though they sell it off for a pittance, then the buyer applies for planning to build a scheme of 6 bedroom executive homes which they duly grant and sells it on at a huge profit. Instead of the council thinking, right let’s build some houses ourselves on it.

On the housing estate I grew up on and the one I live on now, that the council have flogged off many of the en bloc garage sites to Suffolk based Orwell Housing Association for homes to rent or part own part buy. Makes sense given the housing crisis that exists but it exacerbates roadside parking.

Put a new exhaust on last Sunday-the old one had been blowing for ages-also when it was put on about 10 years ago (replacing the original) it was as noisy as hell-cheapo exhaust. With the new exhaust on-it's like a new car-very quiet.

Had a few aches for a couple of days after rolling around under the ramps.

I was going to change the thermostat today-it runs very cold on the dual carriageway to work-heaters not very warm-been like it for years-but started to take a few things off and my hands were freezing-will wait until next week.

ToMM carb service/tune is 'back lane' work.... Not in freezing conditions, it's not :(

Posted

I could put up with the cold a few years ago-but now the other side of 50 it's not the same.

Could put it in the garage but the Royale is on axle stands waiting for me to weld a couple of patches (it's been "waiting" 5 months).

Changed the oil on the Sierra today. Used it last week to gtravel back and forth to Heathrow for a holiday. Munches the miles up very easily-a good cruiser at 70/80mph-and very good on fuel.

Update on Sierra.

Used most days. Thought i'd have a look at the underside to tackle a bit of rust and uncovered quite a bit. Drivers floor where it meets the sill has had it. Will have a look in the week if I can tackle it from above for the majority of the welding. Looks like I need to either brush up on my welding or its curtains after 21 years.

Eek. That shouldn’t be too complicated to sort though, hopefully?

Be a shame to lose it after all the history, and it’s a lovely car.

Weld it but weld it up right with some new sills. Those old Sierras are worth a Bob or two. If you do it right it shouldn’t be a problem for another 20 years

Thanks all-will take out the carpets this week to see the extent of the rust. Definitely worth doing!!!!!

I'll put them in again. I think it's when I copy and paste.

That’s working!

Shit. Shame but it’s such a nice car it’s well worth fixing.

Took the seats and carpets out today for a better look- gave it a good bash and poke. Better than I thought it would be-strange rusted holes on transmission tunnel!  Friend getting me the metal from his work-then time to spark up the MIG and grinder. Previous garage repairs over the years can be seen-should have bought a MIG and had ago years ago.
