That's a reasonable price for a rare bumper, deffo from a lower end Sierra mk1

Posted
Hey! These are grand. Shame one of them is blue. I might get the lass with the other one to get the part number off of the inside.

Thanks again.

I going to give me ten pence worth on the rear bumper gate and say its from a mid 90'S Nissan Sunny. [N14 91-95]

If you can replace it with the correct bumper then I reckon go for it while you can. Could always fit the MK2 hatch bumper if you wanted to keep a slight miss matched look?

I think it be fine to polish up the paintwork too as it will help preserve whats there already and keep it looking tidy.

Great find on the wheel rim just need to see the pictures of it fitted now.  :-)

This is always going to be an impossible situation. Preserving the imperfect is the most difficult thing out there. Some cleaning is clearly necessary to stop it dissolving, but changing bumpers and polishing it? That seems to have a risk of improving it too much, and stopping it from being what makes it so unique.

But then I've contributed nothing to the project, so it's just my opinion.

All opinions are welcome, so no sweat there! But, I think it's very easy to say "you don't want to do that" when it's not a car that you have to drive. (This relates to ANY car, not just the bASe)

I was saying the other day that, whilst I don't want the car to look pristine, I do want it to look like someone loves it.  At the moment - it's a bit of an embarrassment.  The small amount of polish that I did use was just to reassure myself that when new bits get added, I can make them look like they belong on the car.  You see, as much as I love a laugh, if you think I'm driving around in a car with a black rear quarter and a blue drivers door, you've a more finely developed sense of humour than I.

None of those bumpers are correct anyway, so no worries about anything changing soon.

In other news, the steering rack and headset have arrived!

Shame about the bumpers but do let us know the part number if you have it so we can all keep an eye out. You never know, one might turn up unexpectedly

The blue bumper is a pretty close match and you can get paint for plastics that could be used to paint it grey like the front bumper & grille

In other news - how on earth do you even start about paint matching to a wonderfully flat (almost patina'd) car?  The rear wing is now leaking, and the replacement is ready and waiting.  However, I can't help but think it must be impossible to match in a new panel?  I'd almost rather it was left in primer/another colour than be perfect 11/10 Cardinal Red.  Any ideas?  This isn't for now - but help cure my curiosity please?

if you want it to fade , use celly cans , then once its cured a mist over with truckwash /tfr , that fades the fuck out of red cars

What would the old owner do?

I reckon it would involve rattle cans of the nearest shade. Not deliberately making it look bad, in fact making it look as good as possible on next to no budget.

Well put. To me, a clearly shabby old car means someone probably can't afford anything better, runs it on a shoestring budget and has absolutely zero interest in it. A well looked after old car that clearly gets attention = run by a connoisseur and a gentleman.

I'd have polished the shit out of it within 10 minutes of taking ownership, and suspect some paintwork protection will extend the life of the car.

I used to know someone with a Red Sierra, Mk1. Just like this one.

It was the tractor'est diesel I've ever heard.

Just posted this on Shite_Auto on Facefook but just in case the owner isn't on there...

I've just been to see my mate up the garage.

I nearly fell over when I saw this sitting in the 'bits of shit' pile on the back of an old Daihatsu pickup truck.

It's only a bloody correct 13" Sierra steel! It's even got the 83BB part number!

2_zpst7ububnb.jpg

A short conversation with the guy ensued and basically he just said make him an offer. He won't want silly money for it. I do know that a correct wheel has already been sourced but it wouldn't hurt to have a spare I'd say?

Immense.

I think I've got 4 now rather than 5, so I'll double check and let you know. I think I gave the bloke £20 for the last one which is probably about as much as I'd want to.

I'll drop you a line. Thanks for thinking of me!

No worries, I'll let him know you may be interested and he will keep it aside for you.

Interesting, is it now with a dealer? I think it was up for private sale - and Bornite had no luck getting in touch...

Tired twice. Even in perfect "Holland's Dutch" thanks to a colleague.

Nothing.

I'd have bought it blind and driven it back for added danger points.

Ho hum.

Not just a 1.3, a 1.3 badermatic; glaciers get away from the lights faster. Will this be CVH or a superannuated crossflow?

Auto = car.

You are Junkman AICMFP.

That will be my complete incomprehension of Dutch then. How did they do a 1.3 pinto, short stroke crank or smaller bores? Crank seems a bit more plausible from a production line faffage perspective.

Same crankshaft and stroke, smaller bore.
