Not yet, I've hit a wall with that, some ones offered me one with a downpipe but that's a 3 into 1 and looking at the nuts on my downpipe i don't want to start getting involved with that as they are so rusty.

I thought it had been confirmed yours was two Into one as per the one on ebay,

As a side note is your manifold actually cracked or is it just the gasket?

PS I need a three into one wink wink

No one's confirmed it's the same as the ebay one yet, In fact I've just been outside this afternoon changing the plugs and oil and filter on the car and whilst the splash shield was off i had a look from underneath, It seems like it's blowing from the front of the pipe and i can't see no crack, the head gasket was replaced in 2000/50000 miles ago and i'm wondering now if it is just the gasket that's not sealed probably. I did try to film it, not sure if you see much from it?.

As for the 3 into one a chap on the classic-audi forum messaged me called simons2, he wants £100 delivered for it.

Yup that sounds a rather bad blow so not easy to live with it, so it's manifold to head gasket that's away?

Classic Audi now I've not been on the forum for some time and it was Simon who told me the newer cars ran the same exhaust as mine.

I can't live with it being like that! I'm guessing these are the right gaskets for it?.

I also tried changing the air filter, god knows how that is meant to come out as i can't left the top of the housing high enough to get it in! I'll wait until my HBOL has arrived!

Think you can retrofit the earlier 3 into 1 manifold and downpipe combination together onto a car that has the 2 into 1, the KV engines are "the same" maybe thats the source of the confusion. Doing so is seen as a small performance upgrade in fact, probably explains Simon's price.

I cant say for defo that the Passat 2 into 1 manifold "will" fit, only that it "should"... Its whether its worth a punt at the lower price or pay more for the one from Classic Audi. Hopefully it is just a leaking gasket, almost as much pain in the arse, but hopefully cheaper to resolve...!

That air filter has a knack to it you are right, even the clips couldnt be in worse places!!!

I've just ordered these up for my birthday from DMB. Hopefully they will look a bit smarter than the current ones.

Good man, that's going to set it off a treat, big transformation after those new style ones with the gopping gb strip, they just don't look right on older stuff IMO.

Plus I'm glad it's not just me that gets number plates for birthday presents!

I spent a little while on this yesterday, sorted the stereo out, the extra wire that had been added behind the dash was infact for a flasher relay for a old towbar that must have been fitted once, so cut that all out, then found some more cable that most have been for a car phone or something that was still live and just cut with bare wires hanging out!. Made those save and used the switch live from that to power the radio.

After that fitted the new plugs leads, the old ones were proper fucked so it's no wonder it didn't run very well, the new ones are much better.

I also found that a couple of the exhaust manifold nuts were loose, I've tightened them up and seems to have improved it a bit but i need to drive it first to find out but it isn't insured yet until I've sold the Seat so that will have to wait for now. Tomorrow i hope to get it in the garage on sort the bodywork out.

That sounds like its just gaskets then rather than manifold,

Have to say it also sounds more like the gasket than a manifold crack to me.

I had s suspected cracked manifold on a 200 5t, and it was a very distinctive tick sound, and was traced back to what was a visible crack in the manifold. The gasket was fine.

I got this welded up successfully, but alas the garage that did that work are no longer with us...

It does seems quieter now that's i've nipped me nuts up but a road test to show for sure.

I know a post without photos is pretty lame, so here's a pretty lame post without photos, Today i got the car into my workshop and made a start on the bodywork, First job though was to remove the alternator as the lights were pulsating and a voltage check on the battery showed it was giving out 15.1v!, The alternator is only 3 years old and a Delco Remy one at that, i took it to my local motor factors to be checked over, 2 hours later i was fitting it back on the car with a new regulator and £35 lighter in the pocket, it seems fine again now though.

After that I tried to removed the headlight as one of them is full of condensation and you can see the seal hanging down inside, the trouble is a screw between the grill and bumper was rusted solid and i couldn't get the bumper off so that's a job for another day. I finished the day off going all Chuck Norris on the paintwork with my mop, It's coming up really well.

Tomorrow i should be finished and I promise to get some photos up, I can't wait to start using it now!

Today has been a day of progress, disappointment and photos, Basically I finished cleaning the bo11ox out of the car and bloody hell, does it look good now!, Really impressive other than the rubbers at the bottom of the doors which let it down some what.

I've now got it insured and i have to say, It's drives so nice, that 5 cylinder growl is very satisfying, the exhaust gasket blow although is still there is now much quieter too since tightening the nuts up. The built quality on these old Audi's is right up there, I can only imagine how good they must have been 28 years ago.

My mate came round tonight and we made a start on changing the shocks, sadly we couldn't get the track rod undone as someone has stripped the thread so it's going to have to be cut off, as i didn't have a replacement is been left on the back burner for now, It badly needs doing though as the front end feels like it's fully floating!

On the plus side the air filter has now been done and we stripped the headlight apart, cleaned the water out, straightened the bent chrome inside and resealed it but having ran my mate back home the low water alarm went off and there's a water leak under the radiator somewhere, I'll have to get the splash shield back off tomorrow to take a look but i have a horrible feeling the rad may be knackered, one step forwards and one step back. :(

Still we like photos don't we so check these out.

I had to glue the headlining back up, it's not perfect but it's much better.

Looking nice. It's just so weird these have a boot, they look like they should be a hatchback.

Trig, I'm gonna bring the Sierra over for some funky mop action. You have da skillz!

So, a few more jobs done, Yesterday i got my dad to help me to replace the old, leaking radiator, I ordered a Nissens radiator of ebay for £60 delivered which came the next day, I was pretty impressed with that to be honest.

The job itself wasn't too bad as there's pretty a access around the rad, a few rusty hose clips and a damaged mount slowed the job down but it wasn't too bad.

Then today I fitted my new plates from DMB, My wife paid £33.50 for them for me for my birthday on Sunday, being the excitable fool i am i couldn't wait that long so here they are! They look bloody smart i think.

I'm not overly happy with the job i made of putting on the rear sticker, It's a bit awkward to get too and hard to see if it's straight on your own, It's straight enough but slightly one sided and i got a few air bubbles, the curved glass didn't help. It will do though.

Fantastic. The small things make such a difference.

Quick tip for the manifold. Get a length of windscreen washer pipe. Shove one end in your ear, and wave the other end around the manifold. You'll get a very distinctive chuffing sound if it's leaking from somewhere.

Very nice, the screen sticker has quite an authentic look about and that's probably how the original one was ;-)

Excellent looking thing this!! The correct plates set it off perfectly!

It's definitely blowing from the front of the manifold, you can hear it when it's running, It's not as bad as it was though so I'm going to live with it for now. I don't really want to spent too much money on this if i can help it. I might do the cambelt and water pump though to be on the safe side as according to the history it hasn't been done for 50k or 16 years!
