JayW's "I'm not doing this anymore" Shite

So, despite last year deciding I was going to withdraw from this "changes cars as often as his socks" that consume more time and money than I have, it appears you just can't help yourself!

I settled down to a Vectra C TD Auto and the wife had the Korean Hate-Mobile.

I sold the Land Rover:

and Sold the BX (regretted it VERY soon after):

Leaving me just the BX 16V in bits:

and the half finished Transit Camper:

The plan was to just settle on getting the BX back together and roadworthy and complete the Camper to use it for a Euro holiday summer 2016. That WAS the plan as we exited 2015...

Where did it all go wrong? I can't help myself, that's where!

I bought this for £20 with an MOT "just because I could"... now on ebay... SOLD!!!

It's shite!

The Vectra has now gone in favour of this slushomatic:

Paid £400 with a full ticket and all it's needed was a 40 quid 2nd hand alternator. It's ace, truly (if you're happy with sub-20mpg on the commute (which I am). Managed to pick up a set of Chinese ditch-finders on tidy rims for 50 notes locally, so in theory shouldn't cost much til next MOT!

The Korean hate-mobile (Kalos) is due for the off shortly too in favour of this little beauty:

XUD9 n/a 175k and drives REALLY nicely, you Veg boys will love the Bosch-o-matic. Just needs the noisy alternator swapped out and the usual cambelt change and should be good for a further million miles...

I also appear to have recently bought a '93 Metro... Collectionizing tomorrow apparently...

Hmmm...

Hmmm...

I liked this right up to that point.

I like the Metro, had a few A series and a couple of K series and TBH if every K series was crushed I wouldnt be sad.

The A series on the other hand I have a lot of love for.

I see a pattern emerging. Are you the alternator specialist at your local Kwik Fit? 'Can't let you drive it away with a fucked alternator, dangerous, illegal etc. I'd take it off your hands for £25?'

The Jag goes totally off it's tits when the Alt dies, panicky lamps of impending doom flood the binnacle. If you just happen to be in the right place at the right time...

What's wrong with K-series metro?

I have a hankering for a metro and a k-series, so thought I'd go for a 1.4 metro at some point.

I'm still trying to get over the £20 car.  It's a whole car.  These days just a door can cost £40 off any car and that one has 2 doors!  You can't fail to win with that.

There's nothing not to like in them there pictures, Transit probably my favourite.

*Extra points for hand feeding a Toblerone to a giant pigeon as you took the picture of the ZX.

I've been there myself on a few occasions. Thin down numbers, I only need one car etc. I have come to see this as denial, and clearing the decks actually just means I buy more cars anyway, so my new strategy applying man logic that swmbo loves* is simply not to sell any cars in the first place.

Love the jag BTW

It's an illness. We all suffer with it to a lesser or worserer degree.

No big deal.

Like the Transit conversion :) Oh, and the Jaaag obv.

Very observant Billy! We do like to look after the pigeons down these parts. This time of year they start to lose out to the seagulls!

Clio? Fifty quid, come and get it! Drive away (maybe)..

No link as mobile, but "clio spares newquay" on the bay will find it.

What's wrong with K-series metro?

I have a hankering for a metro and a k-series, so thought I'd go for a 1.4 metro at some point.

25 year old design when launched.

K - series kettle which could have been good if not crap and did an impression of a kettle when launched

Rot worse than the A series

Dated interiors thrown over from the Mk2 A series with no changes at all apart from some shitty stick on plastic wood.

Rot in the floor pans worse than the A series ( though admittedly that might be due to the K series not spewing oil out over them like the A series did)

I had a 4 year old one that had shagged rear arches and shagged sills and it hadnt led a hard life.

Only redeeming factor - the 1400 16V K series motor that went like stink and they did handle like a go-kart, but sadly my view of them has been tainted by the utter shitness factor of all the other bits.

I'll happily trade a bollock for a nice 1300 A series example though. Life is like that, you cant like everything shite.

Is this the little fella being sold at Wheal Busy that I fired onto the eBay thread? Looked tidy.

Must have missed it on the tat thread, but that's the one!

I hate to see a n/a XUD go to waste!

Well, it does indeed appear I've bought a Metro:

DSC_4301_zps8lxsmlwp.jpg

It's was a bloody fun 20 mile wizz home down the Cornish back roads. Drives surprisingly well with the 1100 kettle tugging along nicely. I'm assuming it's a carb with cat due to the round air filter but haven't bothered to look yet

No body rust to note, including the arches!

Twas owned by just 2 old duffers up until 4 years ago when it had just 48k. Now on 73k.

More recently run by a chav :(

Spotless interior and just requires 5 or 6 patches underneath (ish).

Happy I am.

Haha I put that Metro in the eBay thread too! It actually didn't sound too bad. What was it like to drive?

You must be really local to me as it popped up one of my local searches.

It was a real hoot! First Metro I've driven in 15 years. Everything just feels "connected" on it, genuinely chuck able fun with a revvy little lump.

Once had a 1300 VDP Auto, dull as dishwater and later a 115 that despite having flat suspension did 70+ mpg.

I'm just outside Newquay, where you at DrJ?

K-series Metros are GR8.  The only way in which an A-series Metro betters them is in steering feel and response and practicality.

Clare looks less so!

You'd think so, but no, she loves it! But, she can't have it, she's getting the ZX being that she never drives fuck all and I'm the one with the MIG!

I thought the SPI's had the Napoleon filter? Happy with either tbh.

I've had a good prod, fortunately, I've got stacks of plate and rolls of wire. We'll see how it goes!
