Dollywobbler's Caravan Capers

It's a good and very valid point. I do prefer the claphand set-up. Downside is scary thirst, especially the autos. On the plus side, I think they have cam chains.

Aye. Spotted that. However, I'm now wondering whether what I actually need is a caravan. The prime motivation for something a bit MPV-ish is that I'm utterly fed up with camping in a tent. Which is why I wondered if a larger wagon could bring pleasure. Might be worth a go for a season.

More for my own entertainment than any help to DW or this thread in general. Sorry.

You can get some pretty decent looking Galaxys for under a grand too.

Of course, proper Autoshite diktat would put you in this, which has The Most Number of Things That Will Ruin Your Motoring Experience...

I think you'd get fed up with a damp mouldy caravan after a while too, a car you can turn into a part time camper is a good idea.

I bet that boarded-out Estima stinks of WVO inside. See the trigger hose and jerry can?

I'm seriously starting to regret turning down my mate when he offered me a 2.5TD VSX estate FOR FREE. Dime bar.

Dime bar.

Not heard that reference since about 1997! Armadillo etc. I hated secondary school.

Get a caravan-I've had one for over 16 years-XM will tow it like a dream!

Could this FREE caravan deliver pleasure? Not seen it on the ROTTEN MANK yet.

Oh shit. "You are the winning bidder!" £222 on a caravan that has an interior like this.

Even comes with the original brochure. It's a 1981 Abbey GT. SPORTY.

Even comes with a brochure so you can pretend it looks like this.

Brilliant. I guess I need to get me some towing mirrors.

I like it - I mean the real one, not just the brochure pics.

I bought a caravan once.

Mrs JK hated it, although the eldest loved to have 'picnics' in it out of the back of the house.

It was that old it made the E23 parked next to it look like something from 2050.

Verdict: do it. But buy a pleasure wagon in case it leaks and you need somewhere dry to sleep...

I initially thought your tin snail comes complete with two massive bass subs yo in the front sofa cushion. Before realising that they are the wheel trims.

Assuming it doesn't have water streaming in at every seam, I find old caravans far more pleasant to be inside than later ones.

People berate older vans for being flimsy and awful inside, but at least a four-berth doesn't need a Hummer to tow it.

Brilliant! I Hope it forms part of an equipe for shitefest.

I love the brochures early 80s aspirational/ fine dining vibe, no doubt sharing a canapé or two there ( and a filthy joke bottom left pic) slugged down with some blue nun. As Jim Bowen would say " eres wot ya cudda won.."

Best thing about old caravans are that if it does have some damp and a leak or two. You can fix * it using whatever you like has long as it looks ok , or not. No need for matching modern wall board at £200 a sheet or something daft like that. No sir. Bit of ply some woodchip and magnolia paint to finish. My van is 25 yrs old this year. Its stays on site now so should last me years yet. I had to reseal a bit of rail last week. A neighbouring owner come to inspect my repair and said " its not very neat is it" I just shrugged and said " maybe not ,but it wont leak anymore and I cant see it so who cares ?"

I've been around the whole "avoiding tents yet getting away cheap" thing and came to the conclusion that:

a) If I wanted to own a caravan I'd have to look at it on the drive

B) a fiat panda is lucky if it can pull itself uphill so would have to put a towbar on the micetro.

c) micetro towbars are more than the caravan budget

d) I didn't want to have to shit in a wardrobe.

z) a bigger fiat panda with more* room is required

SOLUTION IS

DW that ply lining is OSB board, looks about 18mm too. Which goes 34kg an 8x4 sheet - there's probably 3 in there! That 5 bags of cement!

Eleventy twelve "what car should I buy?" threads are not quality content. Unless the OP actually goes and buy's one of the recommended cars - though this rarely happens.

Care to explain Mr Seabrook?! :)

A caravan is definitely not a 'Pleasure Wagon' or a Galaxy :D

I struggled to give away a pair of strap-ons last Welshfest - does anyone know where they ended up?

I miss the load carrying ability of the van but do like car comfort. Seeing pictures of Kia sedonas and galaxy automatics hasn't helped!

Does this mean there may be more than one van in attendance at shitefest dw?

Yes indeed. How big is the field? We'll be able to circle the wagons at this rate.

Is that the ones I stuck on the Alpine?

There's a slight possibility I still have a pair, I'll have a look in the usual places.
