Split_Pin Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 My wee 1.0 Corsa B started intermittently misfiring, bogging down and refusing to accelerate last week. Today, in the damp fog, it got a lot worse. It barely accelerates, kangaroos, misfires, idles lumpy and rattles a bit when you try and make it accelerate. Got it up to speed on the motorway though and it bowled along ok, until I got to a hill. So I replaced the MAF tonight but to no avail. I really don't have the cash to be farting around chasing a fault and getting nowhere. Came anybody please help me? Here is a video of the little bleeder.
Cavcraft Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Possibly worth a look at the cat too if the coil pack isn't the problem.
320touring Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Cavcraft in "Helping suggest fix rather than makin derisory offer" shocker;) srsly though coil pack and cat would be my suspisions too Dave_Q, Cavcraft, myglaren and 1 other 4
Jazoli Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 COIL PACK This twice, 99% sure a new (scrapyard one) should fix it.
Split_Pin Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Like this 😀 I'll perouse eBay tonight. Unfortunately I also have a bottle of red wine so will likely = new car purchase. Junkman 1
vulgalour Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Sounds like it's only running on three... oh. Lacquer Peel, myglaren, wuvvum and 8 others 11
RustyNuts Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 The missus has one of them corsa b's similar demons a year or 3 back was solved by putting some oil in the bone dry engine. She now understands why men spend money on these things constantly. myglaren 1
Cavcraft Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 It's knackered, £20 if you bring it to me. Daviedv, saucedoctor, Jazoli and 5 others 8

Jazoli Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Normal for 1.0 corsa. There's nothing wrong with 1.0 corsa's, I've done 6 miles in mine since buying it and its only broken down once. Junkman, groovylee, anonymous user and 8 others 11
Split_Pin Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 I've had this 6 years and this is the first time it's broken down so *Edit* I disagree with your inflammatory comment in the strongest possible terms. Lacquer Peel, DVee8, Twiggy and 1 other 4
beko1987 Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Spark Plugs? You could whip them out and post a pic, people will be able to tell you if their yey or neigh
twosmoke300 Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Usually a coil pack - they seem to fail on cars that never see a service and the poor coil is trying to fire a spark over a gap like the firth of the forth ! Junkman, scaryoldcortina and Twiggy 3
Cavcraft Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Mine went a bit winky wanky woo then about eleven metric tonnes of horsehair escaped from the exhaust over a period of weeks. Once it had all came out it ran properly. myglaren and jonathan_dyane 2
fordperv Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Egr valve, a mates corsa b was doing the same thing, we put a coil pack on and it didn't change it, egr valve was jammed, it got replaced and it ran like half a v6 again RustyNuts, myglaren, Barry Cade and 1 other 4
Barry Cade Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Had one exactly like this a few weeks back, mates car. Hed replaced everything he could think of but it still ran like crap. I said EGR, he cleaned it, and it was still the same. I still said EGR and he bit the bullet and got a new one. Runs sweet now! Coil packs aren't really such an issue on 3's.
Split_Pin Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Would simply unplugging it change anything, just for diagnosis purposes? Been told that it can be 'blanked'?
Barry Cade Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 3 cyls don't like being blanked, and depending if and how it's failed, unplugging it would make no difference.
Split_Pin Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Ideal, I'll get a new EGR, 50 bucks though urgh!
Junkman Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I bet it's one of them computers. You should seriously look into replacing it with something pre-1986. Twiggy and Barry Cade 2
Junkman Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Speaking of computers, the first thing I would check is the voltage while it's running. If one of the diodes has ceased to be, and you only have something like 12.3 odd volts on tap, you can replace whatever you want and it'll run like shit. myglaren 1
Urko Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I can't help but ex gf had one of these and I loved it - there's something about the sound of a three.
HH-R Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I bet it's one of them computers. You should seriously look into replacing it with something pre-1986.A BBC Micro? They came out in '81. saucedoctor 1
Bren Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Tap egr with a rubber mallet and see if it improves matters.
