I can't believe I'm going to do this again....

But check out this - 2.2 150ps 6 Speed Diesel! I bet this is an awesome slip-road launcher - L8TRZ MONDEO MAN! Doesn't look too bland either for an Almera and it's got Sat Nav!

Is that not the Reno 2.2 dci lump used in the Laguna, Espace and others? The one that likes to grenade itself often??

That Almera is a bloody bargain

I wonder why?

DCi

Aaah.

Nissan engine related to the one used in Navaras of the time, also a bit grenade-y.

they sold the 2.2D, 6 speed 2 door almera van here; with the commercial tax (one rate for all) - road tax wasn't such an issue with a large diesel donk in a short, less than spacious car.... Many of these got very much the wrong side of the ditches, here; a quick n lively diesel.... my brother had a hankering for one for quite a while (van style 3 door); ...in the end he couldn't find a decent one after looking at 5 or 6 of them; some had either repaired quarter damage, new front ends or were very 'beat te fuk'...

...the 1.8 petr'oh' 2002 era mondeos sell for 400 or 500 euro tops here; engine size tax is the clincher here, is maybe as to 'why'...its a 'common on the roads' car, so spares such be plentiful n cheap...

I won't be paying anywhere near £750 for it. It's got all round electric windows, electric mirrors, heated front screen, CD player, working AC, remote locks etc, and is very tidy Not exactly misery spec.No rust anywhere. It's on my doorstep, sensible money, common as muck, so bits are cheap, that Mitsi, well, it's starting to show signs it will need the MiG soon enough, and the wiring on the ignition is suspect, plus you cannot check the MOT history. I smell a rat with the partly obliterated number plate. Reserve is half what the seller is trying to ask. These were very cheap new, and if owt goes wrong, there is the issue of parts. The lack of power/torque is also a bit of concern for a car that would spend most of it's time on dual carriageways.

Plus now the rental goes back first thing tomorrow, so need something very local, and after scouring Auto Trader, Scumtree, ebay, AND Exchange & Mart, Suffolk has very few cars at sensible money. And for Suffolk, that Mondeo is sensibly priced.

And Micheal, it is that place on the 1078, in use as a base for Thames Ambulance Service, who seem to be subbing for the local NHS trust.

And lads, your jokes are wearing very thin.

The Mondeo floats my boat, it's comfy, and nice to drive, so we shall see

You spent your whole time slagging off my Mondeo when I had it! I wouldn't want it myself. There's still loads of cheap cars about round here, theres 3 alone along Nacton Road at the moment I saw tonight.

The Mondeo seems fine, not my first choice but let Felly buy the car that he wants. Hope it lives up to his nearly new car for £500 expectations.

Sometimes, a decent car in the right place within budget is the best one in the world. Mondeo's are just plain good, not arse on fire, boombastic fanny magnets, but just good honest wheels. You could do a lot worse. Like something DCi engined.....

That Mitsi has to be AU55 Y*M judging by the rear shot, but although the top looks like C or maybe G I can't get it to come uo on any of the usual sites.

Check the emissions print off for the mot - those mondeo engines eat piston rings for fun - hc should be below 50 ppm if healthy

If the clutch is biting low on that Mondeo something is wrong, and isn't replacing a clutch on one of these a mammoth job?

Let's be honest, you've got 12 hours to organise a car. You'll be paying what the seller will let you have it for.

And, as a resident of Suffolk for many many years (Ipswich born and inbred) I have to be honest: I've never heard of this "microclimate" for cars of which you speak so often.

If anything, I always found it easier to find cheap chod - especially off the beaten track.  Most of the right minded folk of Great Britainshire will do anything to avoid a trip to Suffolk, and that's fine by me.

Sorry if I sound a bit terse.  I wish you every success.

Only faults it has are a bumper scuff and a tiny dent about 3 inches across, and a cracked wheeltrim, nowt really, all electrics work, and it's very clean inside. Its very local in Ashbocking too. If I get it, the first job will be a service

You may actually manage to trade up! You're winning at last, Felly!

Nothing wrong with that Mondeo for £750. If it's in good nick it's worth a punt at that money, if it gives you a couple years motoring for £700 it's a good bet.

If the rings are fucked it should show up in smoke when you boot it. Either that or recent MOT fail on emissions.

Dont the petrol ones have those swirl flaps a la BMW?

Well, I didn't pay £750, I've just agreed £500, collect it tomorrow. Saw this morning an 03 plate Focus on a Forecourt for £1095 and laughed, especially as it looked a bit scruffy

top bombing for coming back on this one, many a man would have retired. I'm sure* 99% of the comments are banta init.

£500 for a 'new' car I'd be happy with 12 months out of it!

Christ you've bought it? Well done and all that, it looks a sensible hack, but what are we all supposed to do now ?
