I very much doubt it left the factory like that. Of course I don't know the history of that particular unit and there may be a good reason it's been done, by someone who knows their stuff. If it's just a matter of sticking that lead back on there and replacing a damaged bit of wire I'd be happy to do that for you for no charge. Should only be a 20 minute job. Thanks for the offer Zel, but I have ordered magnifying glass and helping hands to have a crack myself. Always good to learn a new skill. The ECU's are self build (although you can pay for someone to put it together for you) and whilst doesn't look great I think the rest of the connections are pretty solid. I think vibration in the car has just broken the solder at the leg. I am going to try resoldering it and also heat shrink it to give a bit more mechanical support, will do the same to the others. the top bar is a universal ground and heat sink so if it has been tappping on and off I guess it might have caused the wire to overheat. Fingers crossed it is just this that is holding back the boost - feeling a bit of triggers broom at the moment!
The Moog Posted May 27, 2020 Author Posted May 27, 2020 Still having issues with MS. I have bitten the bullet and ordered a Speedunio to see if that will fix the issue. If not then I will sell it on. One thing I had sitting here waiting to be fitted is a throttle position sensor. NAs 1.6 come with a sensor that just tells the car that it is either open or closed. Megasquirt uses the TPS as part of the system of knowing how much load it is under. The way you can fix this is to fit either an Auto mx5 tps or a BMW one with a custom mount. I snaffled a cheap one from eBay - the mount having been 3d printed. To remove the old one the throttle body needs to come off as it is right for accessRemove some hoses and loosen the nuts/bolts holding on the throttle body Off it comesYou can see the difference between the two here. The new one faces backward so it is important to plug it in before refitting the throttle body. The other job to do is to reverse the feed to the stock harness. To do this I extended the harness and switched round the wiresI made sure it was all covered up with heat shrink after. If you don't do this the signal is the wrong way round and MS doesn't like it. I missed this post - I regret I'm responsible for building that Megasquirt, sorry it's giving you grief. That particular bit was one of the mods required for the MX5 if I remember correctly, so a bit lashed-on. The Moog 1

The Moog Posted June 13, 2020 Author Posted June 13, 2020 This has just happened. So inital thoughts are all good. Even missus piss is impressed.Needs a good clean and for the MOT will need welding. Probably a good time to take out as much of interior as possible and give it a good clean. The bonnet needs replacing as is crispy as a winter's day. Water tank needs bleaching and flushing. Need to work out what the odd wires do. It has got an external power input which is goodEngine is sweet as nut, starts easily and purrsFair amount of storageTrim has been painted and it peels off. First job is to evict all the spiders and give it a good hoover. gm, Coprolalia, 500tops and 9 others 12

The Moog Posted June 13, 2020 Author Posted June 13, 2020 I went a bit further than a hoover... Floor at the back was cracking and felt as if water had got in. This was confirmed by looking at the side wood That plus wanted stuff out the way for welding it seemed silly not to gut the interior I used a multitool to cut the ply floor into pieces to make removal easier You can see where the ply has got wet and rotted. One naked van Underneath is pretty solid, it needs a whizz with a flap disk to get rid of some of the surface rust then treating. Not sure I will reinstate the carpet - might go for tiles. Water tank is now soaking with bleach to clean it out - not sure what these globular things are Curtains are ready to wash. Next steps areGet it up in the air to see how bad it is underneath Getting welding doneAnything else for the MOTClean and treat interior rust New floor woodNew floor coveringCheck the electrics (a few chocolate boxes which have gone a bit rusty) See if sink works ok. Refit interior Sort out some kind of table insideIdeally clean off paint on trim Replace bonnet with a less rusty one Jobs a goodun mat_the_cat, Tickman, Skizzer and 14 others 17

big_al_granvia Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 sounds easy when you type it fast, for floor covering i would go for linoleum but that is one of the last jobs, as it is stripped rewire the mains and 12v fitting a smart charger for the leisure battery and usb charging ports, lights i would fit led's as they draw less if wild camping, check window seals and replace as required, if cracked or brittle its scrap, dont bother with sola panels or inverters as both i find useless. gas for cooking 12v for lights and if your on mains its a bonus, wee oil filled rad will keep it toasty. put decent insulation under the floor too stripped fred and The Moog 2

It has some choice wiring and the gas feed is a little erm suspect. Will take it out. Going to fit laminate rather than lino as will be harder wearing.
