That's the colour Sierraman was referring to. That estate doesn't really look all that Base with its front fogs, roof bars, rear head restraints and colour coded handles and mirrors. It's still looks flatter than a witch's tits, mind.

Dark Aubergine looked especially nice on the sportier mk1's. A mate's dad had a lovely, immaculate Aubergine mk1, private reg'd M99RJR (nee M770BRV), in fact it was identical to the one you've just pictured here (obviously minus the ST24 alloys and LHD). His car was a hatchback 2.5 V6, but it was not an Si or a Ghia. It just had a 24V badge on the front wings and tailgate. It wasn't a Base as such, it was just an un-named version. It had manual rear windows, 15-inch steels with 6-hole Scorpio Executive trims, and velour bucket seats. Spec-wise, I'm pretty sure it was based around the GLX. How many of those 'Base' mk1 V6's are left now?

That’s right the 24v was basically a GLX V6, even alloys were an option.

@MantaGTE85 From HML, there are two models listed just as 'Mondeo 24v' and 'Mondeo 24v auto' - made in 1994, 1995 and 1996. Last data I saw (without going to check myself) actually only 6 of those taxed, with another 48 SORN.

What's odd, is that model isn't listed in my 1995 brochure where the Ghia X is introduced (October 95)

Ah, here we are the 24v brochure....

Excellent! That's the very one I was on about. The 24V would have been on sale for just one year in plain flavour.

I want one now 😆

This tidy 1.8 GLX I saw back in 2015 is still taxed and tested, showing 101,376 miles when MoTed in October '23.

1993 Ford Mondeo 1.8 GLX

And relating to the low-spec V6 Mondeo chat, is this one of them?

1996 Ford Mondeo Si 24v

My photo from 2014. DVLA lists it as purple and being on SORN, but it's not where it used to be parked and there's no keeper change showing so it could well be that it's been scrapped and DVLA not updated.

Thanks last seen on the back of a trailer in Feb 23

Think that's actually an Si - but a weird as it appears to have a black top front bumper and no alloys 🤔

Interesting. Doesn't seem to have had a new V5 issued, so was it just being transported to have work done?

Those black steels on that abandoned V6 Si could indeed be correct. For reasons unknown, alloys became optional on all Mondeo Si's towards the end of the mk1 run, regardless of engine. The alloys would be the unusual 15-inch six-spoker with a large centre cap that clipped in between each spoke. And the steels would be 15 inch, with heavily-styled six-hole trims that had a centre circle surrounding the blue Ford badge. In November 2020, KGF sold a Cuirass-coloured 5000-mile 1996 Si with those trims, that is well worth looking up if you're interested in what the original Si trims look like.

The mk2 Si also came with 15 inch steels, only this time they were with 'star-spoke' trims, also with blue Ford centre badges.

Maybe, could have been a clutch failure or something...

Ah yes, thanks. Good old Ford de-contenting (Rover gets slated for project Drive, but they all do it, and Ford are masters at it)

I found one in my archive - this one was talked about years ago on this thread I think, listed as 'MONDEO 24V AUTO'. Kept a pic, as though not K reg, remember now that this was noted as a rarity.

Avoid the 2.5 V6 automatic, slow as fuck - think 1.8 levels of performance but chews through the jungle juice to the tune of 20mpg. The V6 is an excellent unit but get the manual every time.

@egg would you like this? It sold on eBay but the buyer was being a nuisance hence we agreed to cancel the sale.
PM me your address and I’ll pop it in the post next time I’m at the Post office.

Yes please, I don't have a 96 year brochure - will PM

That's a nice State Blue Ghia without the optional teardrop alloys that the early Scorpio Ultimas also used. It's very interesting that at the end of the mk1 run, it was only the Ghia X that came with alloys as standard.

Still on the road! Taxed until the end of the year and MOT'd last October with 44000 miles, so very likely to still be in the same condition. Thicker side mouldings that continue to the front wings make it a 1995 model.

I had a set of Mk1 Ghia X wheels which were made by Ronal on a Mk2, eventually swapped them out for some ST24 ones. Also had a set of Mk1 Si 5 spokes. Bought them off a guy in the local working men’s club, went round his lock up and he said to make up my mind quickly as he was ringing the insurance on the Monday.

I liked the old GLX trims, about the only trims that looked better than the alloys.

Five Mondeos turned up at Rustival today but only one K-reg - no prizes for guessing which one :) The others were two M-reg Mk1s and two Mk2s.

Some '93 Mondeo ephemera I was given by a nice chap at Rustival. Look at that fancy Ghia with its bodykit and big alloys!

Ironically the Rustival venue doesn't exist on this map as it was published two months before the museum opened and shows nothing of interest in Gaydon.

I love that, it's great, never seen one before. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks also to @Cheezeyfor sending me this 1996 brochure. Appreciated.

Here's my whole collection of MK1 brochures (excluding contour and mystique) I probably still need the 24v one and the three special edition ones Verona, Mistral and Ultima.

Look at the holes in the floor though, probably best send off for it if rest is like that. Keep the good ones on the road.

That was the one with moon miles, 300/350k or something? Probably finally carked it, it's had a good, hard life

That's a lot of miles for one of those engines. Piston rings probably more like razor blades if it's the original lump!
