Rover 75 tourer roffle

Do these leak water in through the windows and every other orifice like the saloons?  If not, number 37 please.

Oh and a big sticker for the windscreen saying 'Next plenum cleanout due: Saturday'.

Probably as he'd had some of the carpets off for his other one which had had water ingress or something. I'll list the faults with this later, but they're probably enough to stop people wanting a raffle no :(

(Even though they'll only be £3.50 each!)

That motor makes a lovely noise. I thought it was all noise and no go, but when I booted it at 'insert own motorway speed here' in top it carried on very nicely until 'insert own motorway speed here' and beyond no danger.

Very, very quiet, seats (cloth) are superb and that dash is class in a glass. It does have issues (you won't be surprised to know) but to be fair to the seller he'd been honest up front so I didn't find any nasty surprises. From how it panned out I'm pretty sure it was in with like a 99% of being fragged, so I'm pretty happy really.

Hell, yeah. Cheap tickets, too!

You need to drive it at night, you can adjust the orange glow from the dash. Its class.

Are we talking about the sun centre or the Rover?

Ha ha, the Sun Centre actually did do that, in fact that's why it closed. It's either knocked down or going to be knocked down now I believe.

I didnt even know Vauxhall made Rover 75s!

Three lucky dips please.

Problems:

ABS light on, he reckons he traced it to n/s/r wheel sensor

Airbag light on, seat out job he says and £20 for part.

'Known common fault with these is blocked breather pipes, of which there are a few doesn't effect way car performs, just the occasional whiff of oil'

It does smell of oil and did so all the way back, so make of that what you will.

Apparently if you keep your foot on the clutch and hold it there, it loses pressure so you just pump it back up. He told me it'd had a new clutch so he replaced master cylinder but made no difference, and now thinks it's the slave cylinder. Cnfusingly enough he said when he bled it it didn't look like an old part but it 'moves about in the aperture' whatever that means.

I drove it back probably 35 miles, seemed fine to me and no gear changing problems. Most of what I did was bypass stuff but I didn't have a problem at junctions etc, probably because I kept my foot off clutch when not needed.

MOT Feb

Scuff on front bumper, rest of bodywork surprisingly good. Some bits of carpet missing (he says he used these for his dad's 75 as water had got into that one)  and I noticed the pixelated display for MPG has gone a bit shit, see pictures.

Drove beautifully on way home, tracking prob out as could notice a pull to the left. No history, no idea of any belt changes.

Only got 95,000 on the clock and he said it doesn't use oil or water.

Happy to Roffle if people want, £3.50 per ticket, 3 for a tenner, but it probably won't be 'taxed to get you home' by time lottery has finished, so please bear that in mind.

3 unlucky dips for me please.

The clutch slave (and master for that matter) on these are bastards.  The box has to come out to do the slave as some donkey decided to put it on the inside of the bellend housing.

The master is hidden away in the Demilitarised Zone behind the dashboard.  Even though I have the engine out of my MG at the moment and am currently replacing the 3 timing belts, water pump and the clutch while I'm at it, I think I might fight shy of doing the clutch master.  Fortunately there are people who do these for halfway reasonable prices (not saying it needs either - who knows?)

The breather pipes go brittle and they and associated t-pieces snap - tis an easy fix and I've even wondered about using some silicone hoses (black ones not the garish colours).

I think that tailgate actually looks good - not sure why.

These do leak from the sunroof if fitted, and the seams and vents at the back - and the rear window sometimes.

Posted

No sunroof on this one so hopefully that will help.

I'm out on the Cavcraft work's do again tonight so fill your boots numbers wise and I'll message people again when I'm sober-ish.

I'll take 3 lucky dips please Monsiuir Craft.

I promised not to buy anymore French cars to the Mrs tonight.

This shouldn't be a problem, seeing that is not French.

And also, I would be winning it and not buying if it happens.

WCPGW?

Will you at some point in the bloody near future at least TRY and get hold of something automatic? Is it really too much to ask? This forum, etc, etc, etc.

This would have been ace if auto and 2.5 flavour ;)

34 for me please.

I take it this being the 2.0 it's the 2.0 V6 as per Bols 45. I'm not aware of any 2.0 non V6s.

Plus I know whom I can pass it onto when it's no longer needed, he is Frontera fan and an LR Discovery owner.

Three lucky dips please. I am reliably informed that all 75's pull to the left. Breather pipes are easy to get hold of , but someone replaced their ones with rubber gas hose from a caravan. Not textbook but works apparently. Abs light and airbag light could be a result of water under the driver seat and knackering connection's. Would be lovely to win this and give it to son. He wants an estate and keeps going on about Volvo v70 t5's. No comparison really. Rover all the way.

Posted

My Zt doesn't pull to the left, Sam Skelton's 75 doesn't either.

Nor does my ZT-T (although it's a bit academic at the moment as the engine's out of it).

I'll take 8, 9 and 10 please 😊
