I know you've got the awesome yellow double decker and was hoping you'd bring that.

It's looking ever more likely that I might have passed my train driver's license by the time this happens. Provided I can still go (they don't let you take holidays for 6 weeks after passing) is it OK for me to bring my own train to run on the Autoshite-takes-over-a-railway event?

It will have to have its own engine, as they have no wires!

I'll bring our internationally interloping Sprinter 156502. It still has it's NL sticker above the second man's windows from the time it went to Utrecht in 1989. I'm not trained on the 156s but I have had basic familiarisation so I can drive them with my current driving instructor who does drive them. Ops Standards should give it the green light.

What a wheeze to bring your own train under its own power! In 2013 Mrs Cyl ran a Gala and persuaded Chiltern to bring in 165001 and run it up and down the line. I have an image in my head of some chap a Chiltern saying to his college "I have an email from some nutty woman who wants to borrow one of our trains for a weekend while we are not using it"!

it is difficult to measure in mpg. clags per mile however..

I do believe it's somewhere between 2 and 3 miles per gallon. They're relatively low powered for a train at 286bhp per car from a 14 litre Cummins NT855.

 

On the electric side of things, the Class 380s I usually drive are something like 1500KW. Highest I've had the energy meter is about 0.5MWh for a return journey from Glasgow to Ayr and back.
