Cheap travel tips?

Recommended Posts

I am looking to buy twosmokes Starlet located in darkest cornwall.

Before Christmas I was getting quotes for £80 ish for train travel. Now it is £100 more than that.

Looked at mega bus, but would have to go via London which seems a challenge.

Any tricks of the trade to get a cheaper way?

Cheap travel tips?

I only charge £9.99 for my travel tips. Would that be cheap enough?

Try breaking the trip up on a train ticket website. Can sometimes be cheaper than one direct ticket.

Find out the train route and try booking singles direct with the operator. So first or whoever to Manc, virgin Manc to Bristol or whatever and southwestern or whoever for the last leg.

I did Hudds to Dorset for about 40 quid all in once but that was by getting a train to Manc, Megabus from Manc to Bristol uni, short walk then a slow train for the last bit to Yeovil.

It did take about 8 hours though, so depends what price your time and sanity.

When I was collecting the panda from cornwall trains were coming out at 120+ with the ball ache of then having to get a lift, taxi the last 20 miles of the journey I thought sack it and hired a trailer and drove down, total cost inc fuel was about 130 quid with non of the hassle.

could we not do an autoshite relay, get you down there?

You could price up flying. A friend of my other half's needs to get from Bristol to Gatwick for a flight to the US. I don't really believe this but it is apparently cheaper for her to fly to Glasgow, spend the night in a hotel then fly down to Gatwick the next day. Than going direct by train if it's true that is just madness.

Fly. Depending on where you're staring. Or ask a kind Shitter that gets discounted rail travel if they fancy an adventure.

A frame scares me!

Will have a look at breaking down train tickets.

I can do megabus for £25 but that would be departing Preston 1.55am down to London, then London to redruth which would get me in 8.50pm. Cheap but very very long.

Never got blablacar for me, but another good shout.

Had a look at flights and manc - newquay is £40! Much cheaper than thought.

Hitch.

that'd be the most awesomest collection thread in the wurrrrrrrrrld

I use Rome 2 Rio website, http://www.rome2rio.com/, when I am day dreaming about R75 Roffle wins. Perhaps you could get shuttled down by other forum users in different shite motors in varying states of decay. That would make a GR9 collection thread.

Turn down the xantia to stock and pootle on down. bonus is recovery is free (new car can tow xantia back...)

Buy a train ticket with seat reservations

After the journey write in to complain you didn't get said reservations, had to stand the whole way, toilets were dirty etc

Receive a refund

Definitely cheaper to split tickets

A note of caution about doing it this way - if one leg is delayed and you miss the connection, they have no obligation to let you travel on the next service

Right have had a quick look.

Midweek, if you can get to Manchester for 0550 (soz no trains that early) there is a Megabus to Exeter for 9 quid.

Train Exeter to Redruth (is that the correct destination?) is 20 quid advance single.

Total journey time would be about 12 hours but it would be £29 plus whatever it would cost to get to Manchester.

Coach takes FUCKING ages and seemingly makes about fifty stops. Desperately checking your location on your phone will show you've travelled 15 miles in three hours. There's a reason it's cheap. Go by train!!

I would have the metro for 50 quid

Fantastic. That's exactly the Autoshite solution to problems like this.

Easily* persuade one of the Devon gang to buy my 306 diesel, deliver it for them and drive your car back?

1, Buy this car:

$_57.JPG

Currently on £31 with 18 hrs to go

2. Book MOT in Cornwall

3. Drive to Cornwall

4. Sell Metro to a nearby breaker / local Autoshite Metro licker at no more than a small loss

5. Drive Starlet home :-)

This might be a solution. Even with day insurance still cheaper/ less hassle than train.

Twosmoke would next door book an mot for me?

Edit- messaged seller.
