Those GSis are a lovely bit of kit, I had a met (Krypton?) green facelift one that was ace.

I loved mine. Such a nice place to be. Epic going thing, went like absolute stink when you wound it up.

This is now on.

I absolutely hate trains - so much so this is the second vehicle collection I've done this week - using trains. Great...

You love 'em really. Oh yes. In fact it is the driving force behind your chod buying.

It is a lot more preferable than the shitty Megabus to London. Which I might have to be doing shortly .... :(

Nothing exciting I'm afraid! Currently at Manchester Picadilly waiting for the 10.17 to Chester. I slept the remains of my hangover off during the last journey and then chucked the car onto my insurance.

Arrival time at Billy's is 11.45 ish, then it will be a pez stop then 160 miles back home.

I'd be interested in this when its time for it to find a new home again :)

She's home. Drives really well and I'm a happy bunny. Lets hope the MOT on Monday doesn't change that lol.

I'm confident it will fail not least on the handbrake because it is absolutely shit. If the fails are limited to little things like that though I will be more than happy.

The EML light came on about 45 miles into the journey so I will have to get the code reader on that. I think 90 per cent of all Vauxhall's this era that I have owned have had the EML on so I'm not too fussed, it doesn't appear to be affecting the way it runs/drives. The temp gauge also appears to only work intermittently which I will sort too as I like an idea of what is going on with it!

If we rewind just over 9 years ago, December 2006. I was a spotty 17 year old who had held his full driving licence for 5 months. All of my mates had small, basic cars. Examples include a 52 reg Renault Clio 1.2 and an 03 reg Seat Ibiza 1.2. Small engined runabouts.

I've always been a bit odd when it comes to cars ... I had older cars simply because I didn't have rich parents like my mates who bought them such cars so I scraped money together from working the markets and bought cheap cars. I also liked bigger cars.

Insurance wasn't an issue - this was before a certain insurance practice became more policed. But nevertheless I really appreciated my dad adding me as a named driver on one of his cars, whilst he kindly used his other car*. I ended up acquiring a 1999 T reg Vectra SRi140 (that's the 2.0 one) in the same colour as this. I thought I was THE boss as a 17 year old in my 'sporty' Vectra with big alloys (this was before big wheels/low profile tyres really hit off, so the standard 16†alloys were considered a decent size), it had a spoiler and a sporty looking exhaust. I cherished that car and whatever it needed, it got.

I won't give the details of how I acquired it, but a car with a market value then of around £1600 became mine for free, zilch, absolutely fuck all. Which, 9 years on, makes this one I have bought from Billy look stupidly expensive.

Here she is -

Anyway, it came to an abrupt end when the insurance company must have twigged what was going on, the renewal shot up from £600 or whatever to about £2k. The decision was made, the Vectra had to go and my dad dictated I had to buy my own insurance, so needed a much more insurance friendly car. Obviously I did the sensible thing and didn't buy a Clio, and as a fashion conscious teenager bought an R reg Mondeo 1.8 TD. A bit of a come down from the Vectra and I despised every minute with the heap of shit. Here they are together -

Looking back on things now, the sale of that Vectra spurred on very much my car buying habits which remain today. I had a rapid succession of cars after the brief stint with the Mondeo, although the volume of cars and the time of turnover did greatly increase when I got my own home and didn't have the parents on my back.

I have very fond memories of T550 HVV. I don't think about that car these days but the sale of it did piss me off for a good couple of years after. The purchase of a 2 year old Vectra C in 2009 was considered me getting back into a 'decent' car … the first since I sold the SRi in my mind. My thought process is very different now though.

As soon as I saw this in Billy's other thread it brought it all back. He said it would be cheap so I thought I would keep an eye out for this thread – and here we are! Getting into this today was like going back 9 years and as though I had only driven it yesterday. Even smells the same as my old one!

Talking of slipping back into familiar environments however; my old SRi and the 1.8 LS I later had, had Reverse up next to first. This 2.2, same as the DTi's's has reverse below 5th. I jumped back into it this afternoon to go out and jammed it into first. Imagine my surprise when she shot forward. Fortunately no damage! Must remember that one.

Snapped a shot of her with my MV6

The temp gauge on my Vec 'C' CDTi only ever worked when it felt like it, usually if in traffic, then it just dropped off again when going along. Never overheated and the heater worked so never bothered me.

I'm glad you like this one anyhow, it really did drive nicely on the trip to work/back, nice one for collecting so quickly, much appreciated and nice to meet you again.

Very nice, well bought!

I like this shape Vectra in SRi flavour

I loved my dad's G reg cavalier SRi, absolute flying machine.

This shape vectra seems older than 51 plate.

Yeah - the new model came out on an 02 plate, there's a bit of a crossover with them and some late model B's on a 52, but rare.

How long you had the MV6 I have always fancied a manual one.

Bought it back in October mate. I've never had a manual box in an Omega, might give one a whirl sometime...

^^ I will verify that once I know the total parts bill to get it tested!

No I think you're right, should be ok. If the weathers not too shit tomorrow I will have a look and see if I can improve this handbrake.

It's D-Day. Vectra now dumped outside the MOT station. I had to then peg it back to Big JK's to pick up the Rover 220 so I could zip by and drop the Vectra's keys through the guys house door, then off to work. I've got my fingers and toes crossed!

We have news.

It's a fail.

I can live with that though :)

Finishing work at 2pm so I will get it sorted and hopefully they can squeeze a re-test in at the end of the week.

That's not a bad result at all, in fact it's great. Genuinely happy for you, nice one.

Great result imo. Get a new thermostat and coolant while you are on a roll, both my old Vectra and Astra went through 3 each. They like to stick open hence working when stationary and over cooling when on the move.
