The MP for rochdale has already started pointing the finger at the environment agency.

What are they supposed to do - stop it raining?

You cannot hold back nature.

Yup people are quick to blame,

I dare say this is one Christmas that a lot of people just want to be over, we have a bit of flooding here but no where near as bad as that, I hope no one here has been flooded out

Back fill with Renners and Vauxhalls and top coat of tarmac ?

That looks like a late model Lincoln Town Car in that puddle.

Thought that at first too. But I´d say it´s a Mercedes-Benz SLK. Look at the Überrollbügel.

It's almost as if the earth was here before tarmac and concrete.

SD1 drivers told to stay indoors.

SD1 drivers smug because everyone else is soaked up to the ankles too, more like.

Why am I not surprised that the Rochdale MP is gobbing off about the Environment Agency. He's none other than one-man horse shit tsunami Simon Danczuk, who thought nowt of openly trying to drum up some sort of mutiny immediately after the election of Corbyn to the leadership of his party, thus showing his total contempt for the democratic process by which he was elected. He's one of these MP's who is on such a mission of his own, that all element of public service has completely disappeared from his agenda. Basically he is a twat.

I'm waiting for someone to blame it on the gays or the muslims. Bonus points for it being the gay muslims fault, natch.

Have just seen a picture of said hole and it's more like a pothole than a sinkhole.

The Mirror states 20ft across, looks more like 6-8ft in pictures on twatter, will probably be fixed by the morning.

The stranded car looks like a mx5 roadster.

Wonder if the sinkhole would get big enough to swallow manchestor??

Pray for more rain!!

It looks like it goes across two lanes, but takes up less than half of each. What's a lane these days, 10ft?

A sinkhole is when there is a void below the surface that the road/house/street has fallen into. Is that what has happened here?

Posted

Sadly not.  But since we had no OMGSNOKAOS this year we have to make do with OMGPOTSINKHOLEKAOS instead.

It's on the westbound carriageway. Hopefully it'll keep the Yorkshire lot out.

Indeed - he is a constant reminder of why we have a tory government. Go and get some buckets, Mr Danczuk.

The environment agency can't stop the rain.

But when did they last dredge the rivers?

Who did the surveys for all the new build estates upstream?

Who establishes where the fields drain off into?

What do they actually do?

Anyone know?

Edit: Not defending the MP by the way - he is clearly a cockwhisk.

I has been paddling in the centre of Leeds today in my disco. Not really deep, but there was 4 people pushing a modern that they'd obviously killed. Not sure why, not like AA can spray it with unhydraulic lock spray to fix.

Christ, my cousins and uncle live about 2 minutes from Bury town centre - doesn't look good for them from looking at the picture of Manchester Old Road on the Mirror website.

Dredging just speeds up the flood water. Not good.

Would it not increase the capacity of the river and allow the water to flow away?

I am not a civil engineer. Or even a feckin uncivil one.
