I wish they still made.....

Idly opening the browser on my computermabob and it suggested this page all about cars that are amazingly still in production....

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/enthusiasts/20-cars-you-won%e2%80%99t-believe-are-still-being-made/ss-AAg9Nzo?ocid=spartandhp#image=1

Some people will be excited by some of the cars still available to buy! (I await the Iranian Peugeot 405 collection thread)

But it got me thinking....  What cars should have survived better?  What do we wish was still in production today?

For me it has to be the Reliant Robin.  A great solution to cramped streets and high emissions!

Early 90's Astro vans. Mid- size, durable, and simple. The redesign completely ruined 'em for me.

W124 Mercedes-Benzes.

1988 Cadillac Coupes and Sedans DeVille. 4.5L TBFI engines are rare now, but the later PFI ones required premium camel piss.

Citroen 2cv (and yes, I know it's a cliche)

The only time I've ever driven a Deux Cheveux was when moving a sales car on my ex bosses forecourt. It was the early 90s, and I'd guess the car was around ten years old, and one of his better shitters. White with tasteful* green detailing; possibly a Dolly? Anyway, I had to move it to a space with a fairly steep incline, and I could hardly get the bastard thing up it. I remember the engine bleating like a dying sheep, and it only just managed it. Whether they're that appalling as standard, or whether 50% of the horses had buggered off, I don't know. Whatever the case, I really don't miss them.

Meanwhile, I miss the first of the FWD Mazda 323s. They represented cars with steering wheels and door panels which lined up perfectly for elbow resting when driving. My mate's (RIP Darren) 323 had the perfect setup - one thumb resting on the steering wheel and your arm was at the perfect angle to rest your elbow on the drivers door edge. Interior ergonomics at their very best.

It missed out the Lada 110, still made in Ukraine unchanged from the original 1995 car.

I still wish they made 1/64 scale toy cars with opening features. My son has lots of Hotwheels and Matchbox cars and none have this. He loves looking at my old Corgi Juniors cars with opening doors and boots.

Citroën C15

I agree! Defiantly a real workhorse! They were used, abused, went rusty, sold, used, abused some more, sold, used yet they still worked!

While hill climbing was never a strong point of the 2cv, it was a real workhorse. It was designed around the French working class who could now afford a car. They were cheap, some would say they were nasty however they were durable. If you go to the Mediterranean you'll say them all the time as cars for everyday use.

Any car that didn't need a bloody laptop computer to tell you what is wrong with it, and actually have a shelf life longer than the manufacturers warranty

Anything in the 1979 Car Catalogue International that I have on my bookshelf.....I could keep my old stuff as proper old stuff but console myself with being able to buy a new car should I ever want to. Nothing on God's earth would make me buy any of the current or future offerings but I would love to go and buy something metallic brown with gold velour, RWD, keep-fit windows and be able to look at a mileometer full of zeros promising a life-time of motoring.

Large petrol engined , relatively basic specification saloons.

Even ex-Police cars at auction are usually diesel autos these days. Whatever happened to non-PAS 5 speed SD1's and Granadas? Even Omega and Vectra 3.2 manuals with cloth, not to mention manual cloth seated XJ6s and 260/300e Mercs.

A low spec manual 3.0 6 cylinder with small wheels ,simple air con and radio with knobs. Come on Jaguar,BMW etc there's a massive market of.... Just me, probably .oh and not till its 3 years old please.

Another for the Peugeot 205. In base spec, pre facelift and 954cc petrol guise, please.
