Lukas Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I´m off to check a car that I might be tempted to buy. Yes, so close before christmas, when nobody wants to buy a car because nobody has time for anything else than working and christmas-shopping. I will not reveal what car it might be before I have not looked at it. BUT... Here you have a few hints: Its NOT japanese! Its NOT an old Pajero! Its a saloon. Quite a big one too. It was never oficially sold in the UK, but in Austria. (So no Volvo S80 Mk II )Its cheap, unloved and very obscure. The Topic Title may be the biggest hint of them all. Be patient, I will be back at the afternoon with pictures. And the information if I bought it or not. Lukas R9UKE, The Moog, Bucketeer and 1 other 4
chaseracer Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 "Howdy cowboys"...? Have you been to that club again, Lukas? Junkman and brickwall 2
Cavcraft Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Holden Holdy Holdless? Junkman, Conrad D. Conelrad and bub2006 3
D Spares & Tyres Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 It's a big ugly late eighties or early nineties yank One of those ones that looks like they tried to copy a Volvo while pissed
NorfolkNWeigh Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I know the 300C and Voyagers were made in Austria, I wonder if the Concorde/300M/LHS were either made there or at least sold in the Austrian market. Apart from their wrongwheeldriveness I think they're some of the less offensive late 90's Yanks..
Lukas Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Uhh, I might have been to generous with my hints.
doobietoo Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 hope its a 300c, The Chrysler autoshite take over is coming on apace...
Lukas Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Of course I´ve bought it... It´s a Buick Park Avenue 3.8 V6. Of course FWD, of course ugly and of course cheap. But it´s a wonderful place to sit in, very relaxing to drive and it´s so unusual. I love it already. Collection next week. greengartside, spike60, Semi-C and 37 others 40
Junkman Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I bought a '93 in '96. Same colour combo.Their waftbargetasticness is legendary. But you must fit whitewalls for ultimate cowboy cheesiness.
Bren Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 My god. That is pig ugly. Like a fight at a gypsy wedding. In fact it's so ugly It looks like it was made in China. It looks longer than the Royal Navy's new aircraft carrier. And a 3.8 V6 to drag it along. Lukas, your local glaciers will accelerate quicker than this. Whitewalls are out of fashion - personally I think it needs chandeliers fitting to the front wings - then you will be like the duke in Escape from New York. Junkman, Justin Case, dugong and 1 other 4
John F Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Wow. It's like the product of gang-rape involving an Allegro VDP, a Jag XJ40 and an Opel Manta B. Top purchase, Hut ab! Junkman, dugong, garethj and 1 other 4
Lukas Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 I'm glad you all like it as much as I do.
Junkman Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Front bumper GR37 4 woollarding (hint, hint).
danthecapriman Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 That is fucking fantastic! I totally approve of purchases like this. It's not ugly at all. All the other hideous modern euro blob cars in your car park pic are though. Top bombing, as they say on here! And, more pics please. Zantimisfit and eddyramrod 2
Lukas Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 More pics when I collect it, hopefully next week. On the first picture, you can see a very beautiful car in the background, looking a bit jealous. The seller is driving yank-cars since the 1970s, he shows me his collection of old Buicks and Oldsmobiles when I visit him to get my new cruiser. He said, the crank-case-sensor is a problem on these, otherwise they are very reliable. He was on holiday in Ireland this summer, 6000km without any fault. I hope he will be right and it serves me well. Mechanicly it´s sound, but the body is not in such a good condition. Rusty door bottoms, rust on the sills, rust all around the rear window, a lot of cratches and lacquer-peel. >That´s the reason why it was very cheap. I´m looking forward how this is going. My first US-car. I´m very curious. And I hope Junkman will let me know a bit of his knowledge. eddyramrod, Junkman and danthecapriman 3
They_all_do_that_sir Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 It's like a Chinese X300 jag.... For Fiats Sake and Mr_Bo11ox 2
xtriple Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Lovely car, ugly? Yes, but in a beautiful way/
D Spares & Tyres Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I quite like that, much better than I expected ☺
chaseracer Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 That is utterly repellent! Verdict: APPROVED.
Skizzer Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Oh yes, very well done indeed. I drove from Sleepy Hollow (yes, really) New York down to Chesapeake Bay in a rented one of these somewhere in the mid 2000s. It was grade A shite even then - in a good way, obviously. Looking forward to interior pictures showing great expanses of burgundy vinyl, button velour and plastic wood.
Lukas Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 No velour, sadly. Creme-beige leather (that feels like vinyl) everywhere. Oh, and plastic wood of course.
garethj Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 That looks fabulous, excellent choice! I'm a sucker for the late '90s Chrysler Concorde, I really like the styling of American cars of that era.
eddyramrod Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Totally approved! I had a RWD 3.8 Buick some years ago, not long after having a FWD 2001 Park Avenue as a Florida rental. I would have another tonight (either layout), and I'd be quite happy for it to be the one you've shown us.
