180+ on my old ZZR1100, on the way to the Black Forest, just to see if it could still do it. It could, easily. Didn't do it again.

In a car... 150 in a Ex cop T5 estate, 140 in a Silvia turbo. and a Fiat Coupe. No fun really.

Did Szczecin to Berlin in the late evening in 45 mins.. That was a rush.

Even on unrestricted autobahns you still get numpties pulling out on you, this is me on my BMW R1100RS trying to make progress....

i member my mate taking me down the coventry road @ 90 in his dads maxi- and thats nearly 200 innit?!

158mph on a sat nav late one night on the m18 autobahn near das thorne. c20xe vauxhall corsa b.

I've owned a couple of ex police Senators. The first was mk1 that would struggle to top 120 and even the 24v mk2 wouldn't do much more than 135. So much for police cars being tuned.

The 24v would hang on to a Sapphire Cosworth up to about 90 though. Both were manual and had the horrible LHD gear change that Vauxhall persisted with until the last of the Omegas.

Yeah, but Germany and the Autobahns are MUCH bigger than the UK's motorways. If you're going to travel at very high speed you need enough space, infrastructure and money invested to make it a safe thing. The UK is too small, the roads too shitty a condition and many of the high speed drivers far too over confident for it to end any other way than hysterical tabloids and crashy burny death.

Have you driven on the Autobahn? Lots of the derestricted bits are more like dual carriageways.

Better off traveling on Sundays when there's a truck ban. The autobahn is somewhat akin to the A1(M).

Apparently... So I heard...

The quoted top speed for a Vauxhall Nova 1.3 SR is 102. So some bloke with a brown one (don't know him obviously) managed 105 on the A46 once. The car was shaking like one of those vibrating abs machines by all accounts. (although I definitely don't know what they feel like)

Said bloke had driven faster since in other more capable vehicles. But not as fast as some of you have dreamt you've driven...

I've been in a Reliant kitten at over 100 indicated !

It was breathed upon and bloody scary

Fastest car i've driven was in me 827si manual (ex thames valley driving school)  145 and still pulling, apparently criticised for poor handling at the time but on Conti's i never had a scary moment.

Fastest lorry i had was an F90 MAN made in 86 that would apparently cruise at a genuine 95, calculated on rev counter cos tacho doesn't go up that high...my mate was a loony but much younger and even more stupid then.

they were restricted to 71 anyway, but apparently if you take two 17mm spanners and adjust the outer throttle cable right up, and then hit the throttle really hard it would click past the limiter at the pump, they never did suss out how it was done at the workshops.

Must take some bollocks to get to the speeds mentioned here on bikes, two of my mates where having a blast down the A14 some years ago on bikes when they came up behind an AMG SL Merc, who promptly floored it and left them doing a paltry 150, they were impressed.

We've all done some stupid things, but these days you can't risk it, apart from the official cameras and unmarked plod, we've now got millions of wannabe coppers itching to shop you for a pat on the head from the state via their bloody cameras and recorders.

An indicated 117mph flat out on my GT380,  though it was probably nearer a 100mph or something, as 1970's speedos weren't known for their accuracy. 115mph (and there was more) in a BX (1.9TD conversion) estate and I used to get my Cavalier 1.8SRi flat out as often as possible, I think somewhere around 125mph was possible if you were patient.

It's not all about top speed though, I had my Nissan Sunny 1.5 to 80mph down the back lanes and took off over a bump, plus many others (special mention to the ex-Dollywobbler Daihatsu Sirion) to ridiculous speeds on the same roads.

I think the most nervous I've been on a motorway was travelling from Woking to Liverpool in a Rover P5 the previous owner had tried to make "look a bit like a hotrod". Lunatic had left a pair of 40+ year old Dunlop Gold Seal cross plies on the rear and fitted a pair of 195/50 Ping Pong part worns to the front.

It was raining, the Rover had carb issues and malfunctioning overdrive, the wiper blades were probably as old as the rear tyres and the headlights were dismal.

It's about 200 miles from Woking to Liverpool and 70 mph was too fast for that car on that day so most of the journey was done in convoy with the truckers at 56 mph.

The thing is, the 70 limit was established in the 60s for people driving stuff about as shonky as that P5. Ill-handling old cars with poor brakes on old tyres. Modern stuff has a huge amount more directional stability, much better brakes, lights, wipers, tyres, suspension and such advanced safety features as seat belts along with steering columns etc designed not to impale the driver. My E320 is safer at 120 mph than that old P5 was at 50 but the limits haven't changed. The UK motorways are stuck in the dark ages.

The UK needs to start chucking 6 points at people with poor lane discipline and tailgaters. When the press ran a thing about lane hogs and tailgaters being prosecuted people mysteriously kept to the left and drove properly for a few days. The motorways were actually nice to drive on for that short time until the schools broke up and hundreds of thousands of people who don't normally use motorways appeared and drove abysmally again.

6 points minimum for either tailgating or being in the wrong lane. No ifs, buts or excuses. Compulsory driver awareness course for anyone caught. I'd also give 6 points each to any elephant racing truck drivers that string out overtaking for mile after mile, and ban HGVs from the motorway network during peak times.

Took the Council Estate on a high speed run one evening... indicated 105 flat out which was a paltry GPS indicated 93mph.

Had 87mph out an Iveco Daily Classic and 84ish out an LDV Convoy with the Peugeot 2.5D.

Derestricted Volvo B10Ms will do the P in MPH if you have big enough balls, and the wipers start to slide up the windscreen when you approach three figures.

20mph in a MF 40 aircraft towing tractor round the perimeter track at RAF Scampton. When the RAF Policeman stopped me I thought I was on a fizzer but he informed me that the speed limit was 30mph and he had only pulled me over because he had observed me smoking in the cab and he needed a light because his Zippo was empty.

Our MF40s only did 20mph...

We did have a Reliance Mercury belt loader which had a 4-speed auto instead of the usual 2-speed which I may have got a warning over "excessive speed" on the airfield. I also went to the chippy at 18mph in a Douglas DC10H tug but that was exceedingly slow.

Like I said earlier, that's the scary thing about big bikes, you really don't have to try, you genuinely can do those speeds by accident if you keep it pinned.

The zzr just seems to get more and more stable the faster it goes, guess the blackbird is the same as the fairings start to do their job.

Wheelspin north of 80mph is allegedly very scary too....

Hence why it was traded in for an old gs,and now a 1200rt. Too old to be shitting myself. You loose speed sensation. All bikes are fast, even my old git rt has 110bhp! Handling is amazeballs though

This ^^

My current RF900r is of 98 vintage, only has 125bhp,only has 5 gears and only tops 160ish.....

Erm. An indicated 90 in the Maestro. It was quite noisy with only a four speed gearbox, but it could have gone a bit faster. It was probably a true 85 or so. I've also had the FE up to an indicated 80. The Somerset has managed a satnav 70 on a couple of occasions. I definitely fail at doing speed!

Haven't heard Carterton and The Antelope in the same breath in yeeeeeearrs. :D

The big question is though, which side of the road to get your kebab from? The Antelope side or McD's side? (McD's side for me)

Nooo, antelope side!

I did 42mph down Preston Road in Linlithgow on my Prompto Equaliser mountain bike once, according to the cheapo digital speedo. I overtook a learner driver. The handlebars were vibrating like mad and the driving instructor called me a fucking arsehole.

I crashed a belt loader at 5mph on ice in Goose Bay but I did have a monumental hangover that day (as I did most days).

I never did a real 132mph on a empty kent motorway at 3am at all - I've since sold the satnav and hope the new owner has checked the log.

Scared me shitlesss so it it did

161 on the bike, not bad.

135 in the car, no worries.

55 in my reliant rialto. Shit myself and bottled going any faster!

140 in a 2 month old Morgan +8 - damned scary as just about everything was flapping and rattling around.

Also 140 downhill in a Honda Accord 2.0 iLS - unexpected.  3am and no other traffic around.

That felt far more secure than the Morgan.

Sad to say I dont k ow how fast I've gone. I know I once got the ST over 100 very early one morning on the M1 but I backed off soon after.

The other Fiesta takes hours but I've had that to about 80, it feels slower and it's not happy doing it.

Really for me I'm not into mega speed but more the twisty bits that are scary even at 20
