Threads of Distinction Thread

There must be tons of great reads buried deep in the server. Post links to particularly amusing/educational/eccentric threads that are in danger of being lost. A sort of AS greatest hits. Something to read when the TV's crap.

I mention this thread -

http://autoshite.com/topic/12081-autoshite-not-just-pistonheads-for-poor-people/

not because it is one that I started, but because it contains this post, possibly the finest thing ever written on the internet:

"The main thing I admire about this forum is the length that some people go to save some un-popular rusted out putrid car that's had its front end submerged in a pond for 14 years would probably snap in two if it were jacked up and if you sat in it you'd be likely to catch cholera. The person who spots it comes on here asking "is it worth saving?" to which everyone else types "yes of course" or "go for it" type responses so the person goes ahead gets the car delivered to their middle class semi on a Monday morning this causes an emergency Neighbourhood Watch meeting on Monday evening and a trip to the divorce court on Friday morning, on Saturday evening the car catches fire and burns the house down. The person posts on here what's happened to which people respond with sympathetic posts like "such a shame, you won't find another car like that" then someone else offers a free Austin Montego that’s been buried in a quarry for 8 years and the process starts all over again...welcome to Autoshite. "

...or this, which I can/am soon about to relate to. From Phil_Lihp:

"I disagree, this site ruined my life. Within a few weeks of joining, through no fault of my own I ended up lumbered with an undesirable, rusty pile of shite which cost me real money to buy and which I then had to spend more money and a lot of evenings and weekends fixing. It's entirely the fault of everyone here and you should all be ashamed."

Yeah, I had no great desire to own any other car until I joined this place and was peer-pressured/given no good reason not to go buy a poor, unloved but original Saxo VTR. It's now masquerading as a 'wedding present'...

I, of course, will be joining in the next 'Should I Get This Thing?' thread, responding to any dithering with encouragement to spend money on something that might make someone happy... it's better than going "OMG, you're a CUNT for even considering something that WE might not like, you total PRICK,"

^^ +1 for the RatDat Datsun thread. Anyone in contact with him to goad him into an update?

Highly commended for Will's 306 collection thread.

OMG you're a DAILY MAIL READER for posting something I may or may not dislike you SON OF A BANKER.

FTFY.

As you were.

Cars & Girls, Breakdown Driver and The Junkman's Drivin' Choons. CBA to link soz innit.

I'll add the links later when I find them but I'd like to nominate that Princess collection thread where it broke down in the Midlands and was saved by local shitters but I can't remember who was involved.

Also Partridges infamous cock door thread surely? It broke Autoshite. Or is the thread referring to a different sort of distinction?

I would like to vote for Mr Bollox Rover 200 thread - particularly that red GTI that almost defeated him until he found that grommet in the cooling system. That was worthy of a Hollywood movie yet alone a mere thread of distinction!

Plus Two on Ratdats Datsun build also

You bastards, I'm only down to the boatshite thread and I've lost 3 hours of my life already

Just finished reading the 306 thread. It had it all, excitement, intrigue, daring, good conquering evil etc. How an autoshiter stands up to a dishonest villian and wins! They should realise that autoshiters build stamina by rolling around under old cars in the cold and damp and their bodies are strong from undoing rusted bolts. It is a brotherhood with a network of shiters in all parts of the country who unite against evil car sellers. I doubt he will make the same mistake again!

To have a closer look at it's underbelly, I 'constructed' an inspection ramp out of pallets and broken breeze blocks.
It wobbled like a bastard and had me touching cloth, so I fcuked that idea right off.

But after I'd been inside for a cup of tea and a nice sit down, the Lada was still up in the air, so I peered underneath.

This makes me laugh every time I think of it.

I tried explaining the setup to a mate, he just looked at me like I had a wellie on my head.

This is probably one of my favorite threads on here, other than all the threads I've started of course!

Boobydoo was an absolute legend on here, such a shame he went.

I nominate Mike D's Beetle + crunchy MX5 + Eagle kit car mashup; an interesting & ambitious project with some top quality work.

pretty sure there were further updates in new 24 etc, I would love to hear the latest.

Was enjoying reading that but it did end quite abruptly. What happened next? Did it ever get built?

Surely that chap resto'ing the Mk1 Cav is worthy of mention? He's doing a cracking job with that.

Added it at the start. And that Hyundai Accent with the scratched bumper. And the ZT.
