The king of collections is back with a bang.

The Benny Hill vid is just superb.

Only the lack of key handover shot prevents a 16.5/10

Interior looks very Lexus LS400, in a good way, the fit and finish on those really is nice.  I reckon it looks nicer without the boot spoiler, looks a bit more classy.  Really is surprising just how much car you can get for nothing, it would seem the biggest obstacle is insurance and insurance should obstruct you owning a nice car.

Did I mention that I'm now throughly jealous?

I do love these cars. I take it that you know they are not really Japanese but manufactured in North America? Explains the general waftiness of the car!

I did not know that.  Its surprising that its put together so well, but explains the waftiness.  I dont thing they even made manuals?  If they did they must be pretty rare.

I did mention it earlier ;)

You can get 2.0 manuals in the UK, all UK V6 versions are autos.

The next model V6 coupe in the US got a 6 speed manual, there was also a V6 Legend manual in the us as well.

Superb. Also, a gentleman for holding the hand of Mrs WilsonWilson throughout. Who says romance is dead?

That was to stop her running away with the money screaming,

"We don't need another bloody car".

Sorry HB, that must have gone right over my head.  The manuel 2.0s must be as rare as manuel Merc 190s.

Mrs S is a tolerant and understanding woman.  Shes not adverse to helping out on a collection if required.  Think this little jaunt was her 4th.  Couldnt have done it without her!

Plenty of the two litre manuals about mostly with mega miles on them.

Autos tend to start expiring around 120k if the haven't been looked after, especially the V6 versions as 200 bhp tends to ruin the 2nd gear clutch pack.

As long as the ATF is a nice cherry colour and doesn't smell burnt then the box is in good order and shouldn't give any problems, harsh changes can be the solenoid screens becoming clogged. You can take them out and clean them as they sit on the outside of the box, I've fitted an external magnafine transmission filter on the ATF cooler return line to help catch the crud from the clutch packs wearing out as Honda put the transmission filter in the gearbox casing so it can't be changed, an epic price design which has killed a shit load of coupes over the years.

Lings Honda have a great site, it will give you a break down of the parts on your car by each group of parts, it gives you a lings part number but if you delete the _pkf from the Web address it gives you the actual Honda part number making finding the correct part a lot easier.

Lings Honda part number

Remove the _pkf for the Honda part number

I always take out a private insurance policy on a new car which is then cancelled at when sold.  Usually at a financial loss.

How about taking out an Aviva or Direct Line policy as they allow you to switch cars online for free? My '82 Mazda was on a classic policy but I've just added it to my daily-driver's Aviva multicar policy (only cost £46 for the remaining 5 months). I will sorn the Mazda in November and embark on a monthly swapathon hopefully using the same £46 insurance policy over and over again and then back to the Mazda in the Spring. In theory it should work. And I reckon it's the way forward for swappers/addicts.

Surely this must be a keeper WW?

Well that jinxed it!

Just had a failure to proceed.  Car wouldnt start.  Batterty fine, spinning fine, but wouldnt catch.

Hmmmm.  Poked things under the bonnet, then rang the AA and went back in the house.

AA turned up 40 mins later and said give it a go.

Turned the key and it started fine and ran like a purring kitten.  Turned it off and restarted it again, and again, and again, and again.  Every time it started great.

AA bloke was dead canny and had a good look round but couldnt find any obvious problems so I took it out for an Italian Tune Up for 40 mins.  drove fine with no problems at all.

How strange.

I can confirm that the VTec howls and sounds amazing!

More bonus stuff that I forgot to mention:

Take her (the car) for a curry @ Bilash.

Different, 'bangladeshi - tuneup' will clear her out...

I had that with my Coupe, cause was a rapidly expiring battery, I replaced mine and it never happened again.

Same symptoms of not starting, waiting 30 min and it recovers charge enough to start.

Could also be the Fuel relay which can get some dry joints, thats usually a hot start issue though

Cheers man.  Thats great advice. Will do a battery health check and see what the good word is.

Battery itself looks pretty new (which means nothing I suppose).  It has been "sat" a while too.

All the gear on it is standard I think, the only options were a BOSE stereo, fron fogs, spoiler, rubbing strips and a Honda Body Kit.

Gold Honda badges were also a £500 option, a stylish* gentleman in Glasgow took that option when he speced mine in 99.

Got this up in the air at friendly local MOT garage for a pre-mot inspect today.

The news from underneath and around is as follows.

Needs front disks.

Needs an exhaust (its not blowing at the minute, but fair warning, it has been welded, gummed and chemical metalled in many places).

Needs ABS sensor on drivers front wheel (or the wiring checked - ABS light is on and reader is flagging this sensor)

The lambda sensor wires are not connected to the connector that theyre meant to be connected to.  Fuck knows why or how, but the EML is on for the lambda.

Wires:

Grey connector:

Good news, Tyres are all good! drives lovely though I think the wheels want a ballance, theres a wobble at 70 and upwards.  Wheels also want a refurb.

All 4:

It also has a few scrapes, scratches and small dents around the body.

I will also provide a replacement fuel pump relay, which is causing the "sometimes not starting when its very hot" issue*

*the solder joints in the relay under the dash expand in the heat which widens cracks, meaning they dont conduct electric well enough.  If you leave the window/door open for a while and let the cabin cool, the car starts and runs fine.  Only had one failure to proceed, on a hot day.  Its a common Honda problem, and like I say, a replacement relay will be provided.

Verdict:

I dont have the money or the ability to get it through the MOT due in December, so the car is now for sale.

I have described it as honestly as possible throughout the thread.   Its not perfect, and it needs a bit of elbow grease (and a clean) but its a lot of car for the money.

The car is now taxed and insured and available to drive home.  V5 is awaited.

Location NE304PQ. Close to everwhere if you can be arsed to travel.

Price is £170 to a 'Shitter.

As you can probably imagine, after insuring and taxing it, that see's me a loss, but the world keeps turning.
