Replica Tax Discs

I'm thinking about getting a replica tax disc made up for the Dolomite but I don't know who's the best to go with, I've used http://www.poplargreg.com before for the Civic but they don't come with the perforations and look a bit fake, plus £11 isn't that cheap really.

I've found a chap on ebay who's cheaper but you can't see what they will be like before hand, they could be shit for all i know?.

Has anybody else got any more recommendations before i buy one?.

Was there not somewhere that you could print your own for free. I seem to remember seeing it or maybe I imagined that.

Fred transit has a load of downloadable ones on her website a2ecommercials . I was looking for one for the Celica but she didn't have one recent enough.

From what I remember last time the ones you can get for free were a bit crap. They didn't have high enough resolution scans or only certain months/years

I've looked at Fred's one before and they are rubbish, I'd sooner pay and get decent ones.

I've just found the images on Google, blown them to approx size and printed them off, granted not every single yr is on there, but a lot are.and freeness!

I found a blank one on google, and someone on here kindly photoshopped the info on.

Its not concourse quality but does the job!

I've seen them Spud, I have to agree, although they look pucka, £28 is a bit steep for me!

Yeah sticks in your throat a bit, paying money for a tax disc when we don't pay for the tax any more! The ones they sold in the Museum at Beaulieu were a lot less than that and not bad. I bought some old stout labels on Ebay for a quid, same colour as those Fifties discs and ideal for re-creating that Spiv era. Spud has a good point - you need to pitch the disc date at the condition the vehicle is in really. I am not up for paying for any of this stuff, myself other than that quid on Ebay. I have an old one on the Minor dated "10 00" which is quite apt - and it belonged to the car in the first place.

I have done rather well selling my old tax discs on ebay (about £300 so far).  One which always does well is an old one where the writing has faded so much - as is often the case - that you can write whatever you like in them.

I got the same one as you linked to trigger, its only on paper but looks the part.

I've looked at these before and have never been happy with the quality, they just don't look authentic enough. Perhaps you're better off buying an old genuine one with faded biro.

Dunno what you mean, my car is in exactly* the same condition as it was when it rolled out of the showroom in 1994...

I've got the last couple from the Panda, one of them being an OMG 09/15 expiry. Hoping to retire on the profits, or at least get some money back from what I lost on it...

JPG!!!!!! :o

He just sends you a jpg image for approval I think. I know he does a lot of classics as he owns a P6 which is how I know him  ;-)

Exactly what I was going to suggest - find a 1979 disc that's faded and then whack the details in.

I've now got over 800 tax discs - I'm going to keep them for another 30 years then retire on the proceeds.

I'm after a May 1980 disc GGS but they are about £12 on eBay and non faded. :(

Ive done exactly this , they look perfect being original and better than copies

I bought some from Poplar Greg. They looked reasonably good and I'm sure they're fine for a car that hardly ever leaves the garage, but in my Somerset which is parked outside, they faded so quickly (in maybe 3-4 months!) that I took them out because they started to look rubbish. I suspect it's because it's just standard computer ink used to print them, while real tax discs seem to be printed with more durable UV-proof ink.

Have you noticed how since tax discs were discontinued, there's a mix of people who have removed them, and those who just haven't bothered. Out of those expired ones left in, some are really faded (especially the pink 2014 ones) while others are still fine. My theory is it's the ones that were bought online and posted out on a bit of paper that are fading. I left the last ones issued to my Somerset and Maestro in the windscreen and they're as good as the day they went in, after 18 months. They both came from the post office though.

I bought one from this lot:

http://www.discybusiness.co.uk

And I made it look EXACTLY like a 2016 disc would have looked, had they been issued; correct colour, font etc.

However..... I entered the phrase "diplomatic/exempt" in the "class" section and added "F & C.O." (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) in the "issued by" section.  Not sure if I ought to admit to this, but the result has been that I have not received a parking ticket since..... OOPS!

I'll keep an eye out for you Trig, I've got a 1980 one but not sure if it's May expiry or faded enough..
