March 1990 Sa'fend Car adverts

I was routing around in the boot of the Dolomite today and found a couple of old local newspapers from the Southend area from March 1990, I've only took a few photos as it started to rain but I thought you'd be interested in seeing them.

I fucking love threads like this.

The D plate Cosworth at Trimoco would have been a shrewd investment at £15k.

Funny how the Sapphire was the same price, but worth about 1/4 in today's mad market.

Of course, as this is AS we should go for 5 new FSO 1300s as a £15k investment.

Think of the return. They would be worth at least £300 now :-)

I'll get some more photos at some point, I should have bought the papers home!

Fantastic find trig, my sapphire was from that trimoco ford dealer, the old boy it was from was the original salesman of the car to his son when it was new, he told me of the days when they could run around in the cosworths and Escort rs turbos. The car that jumps out at me from the used Ford specialist's is the A reg sierra 1.6L in rio brown with beige interior and 5 speed for £2495 I would love a sierra in that colour combination

I love stuff like this, thanks for uploading, I have some 1988 Autotrader's somewhere I must try and find them.

My 309 (of 1987 vintage) was supplied by Curries of Westcliffe and still has it's dealer plates and I have the keyrings (and original bills)!

We had a Jessup's (Ford) in Stourbridge, my parents purchased a used Sierra from there in 1988. I always assumed it was just a local dealership but was obviously a national one!

Once I get the car home I'll scan these in properly so that you can actually read them better!

I suppose the ones that were found behind a skirting board in 2013 will be of interest here to those that don't follow me on Flickr. These are from the 70's, click the make the photo huge.

Currie Motors. Nice people to do business with!

For me itd have to be the demonstrator 90 G Astra 1.8 SRi 3 door at Jessups, the POA price would worry me a bit, never understood why they put POA instead of a figure sometimes, its not like its a Rolls Royce where if it says POA and you have to ask you clearly can't afford it.

No POA here, the Mercedes 600 is just available at 'a reasonable price' I'd like to see that in C&SC today, fat chance ;)

I prefer to know where I am. Are Newbury Motors still going; if so I'll wander over and see if they've sold the £1400 Jensen CV8 yet :)

I lived in Rayliegh for a good few years, leaving there in 1986.

My next door neighbour worked for Page Motors in Battlesbridge, one of the ads featured there.

Bridge Garage in Shoeburyness still exists, although it's a Ford specialist rather than a Ford dealer nowadays.

NEVER end a sentence with a preposition!!!

Currie Motors. Nice people WITH WHOM TO DO BUSINESS (but it doesn't sound like a slogan, even if it IS correct English!)

I actually went into the FSO dealers in these adverts & scooped up a load of brochures. I NEARLY bought the last FSO Polonez Prima they had in stock. I wish I had!!!

I need a vee-hicle with a flux capacitor. Doesn't have to be Renault engined as I wouldn't want to be greedy.

We need to work out the modern area codes for some of the phone numbers and start calling them. I'd love to make the call...

"I'm phoning about your 1981 Fiat Strada, in blue. I notice that it's MOTd until February 1985 - any chance of putting it through another one for me? I'm just a little nervous about rust on Fiats..."
