Peugeot 405 1.9TD - Going Home.

305 seats are really similar looking, but I've never tried swapping them. I was going to fit the pair you got to a 305 for a customer a while back because of snapped rails on the driver's seat making a MoT impossible but the car had so many other problems it went the journey and he got a focus instead.

Guinness Golden Ale is very nice by the way. So nice I've bought some more.

I really don't know man. Anyone else know?

305 seats don't fit directly as I've already tried.  They're actually even more comfortable than those in the 405 but more thickly bolstered so unlikely to give you any more headroom.

I got literally the last clutch cable pedal clip out of my local dealers stock.

It looked smaller than the snapped one, which elicited a throb of panic.  I wrote a note, poked it through the garage letterbox (car was still on the ramp from Friday) and fucked off to Sunderland.

Thankfully, it fitted fine and I picked the car up a few hours later.

Took it for a run and a wash, and applied some stickers very poory.  Also put the new plates on.

Extra shit points for wonky dealer sticker?

New front.

During the run around, it became harder to get into 1st and reverse, until it wouldnt go into either at all.  The pedal also dropped a bit.

Back to the garage!

It seems the clutch cable that came out was self adjusting, and the replacement is just adjustable.  A quick five minutes adjusting it (the proffesionals, not me!) and it was right as rain.

The car is transformed.  It was good, but now its effing marvelous.  Drives so smooth and so sharp.  The clutch is light as a supermodels tit now and the car feels far more agreeable through traffic.

Some pics in the sun.  Excuse the shadows that look a bit like cocks with condoms on and lack of HDR pls.

I was seriously considering selling the old thing.  After driving it again, I think I've talked myself out of that.

Managed to find some OEM headlight protectors for the 405. Theyre pretty rare, and one was slightly cracked, but I really like them on cars for some reason. To me its an indication that an owner cared enough about a car to pay dealer prices for a piece of plastic, for the sake of protecting something not particularly prone to damage.

Anyway, here are some:

Of course, the first one fitted fine.

And of course the second one snapped in a new and much more obvious place.

It was a lovely day, so I took the fucker for a bootle round the Nord.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, as lots of people probably predicted, now that I've spent up a load on this old bird, I find myself financially overstretched and with one too many vehicles.

So!

Up for sale is,

Saxon Blue 1994 Peugeot 405 1.9 TD Estate.

Bosch fuel pump.

V5 shows 2 former keepers.

135k

MOT 24/04/16

Taxed to get you home.

Full service history, including original bill of sale.

Spec:

Manual gears (5)

Clean cloth interior. No marks or rips.

Electric windows (4)

Electric Mirrors (2)

Electric Sunroof (1)

Ice cold Air Con (working)

Central Locking

Original in car entertainment with steering stalk controls.

Retro fitted reversing sensors.

Tow Bar.

OEM deep rubber mats.

Dealer plates and key rings from suplying dealer (plates reproductions)

2 keys.

Most recent history includes (with receipts):

Three piece clutch kit, cable and pedal clip - £380 (parts and labour) 25/09/15

Battery with three year warranty - £103 16/09/15

Timing belt, water pump, full service and new rear brakes - £390 (parts and labour) 29/08/14

Price is £1100  (negotiable, obviously) - Located North East England - NE30.  Well served by road, train, and plane and is most definately not too far away from anywhere.

I'm sure the price will put most off, but its a very very good example.  I don't think you'd find better, cheaper if you looked very hard for a very long time.

Did have one random Failure to Proceed that was documented on here.  Never happened again and I'm using the car every day.

No swaps, or part exs cheers. I have more cars than I need at the moment.

Cheers all.

Madness. Are there not other things you can sell?

Mind you, I think my main motivation for NOT changing the clutch on the XM is because I've a nasty feeling I'll want to sell it as soon as it's done. And I've been told, very firmly, that I'm not allowed to do this...

Not to this kind of value, no.  If you're keeping the Citroen, I would do the clutch.  Its costly, but absolutely transformed the 405.  Unless its a PULL type like the Pug.  Which is (I'm told) a right pain to do. So my advice to everyone is: if youre buying a 405, buy one with the clutch done!

I'm surprised nobody has said "these arnt worth that, I bought one for £350 with a FULL mot" as yet.

This place isn't what it used to be.

I don't mind a roffle, but I really can't see 59 people wanting to put in £18 each. Though I suppose we could give it a go.

If you would like a ticket. Put your name on the list that I will write below when I get to a PC.

BUY POPULAR DEMAND*

If you're interested, please copy and paste the list below into a new post and add your name.  The magic number is £18.

I'm doubtful that we will fill the list, but its worth a shot.

I'd feel like an utter cunt making a low ball offer after the money you've put into it recently.

I could go for £18 a ticket.

My feelings exactly. I wouldn't* be able to drive it due to the guilt.
