Primrose R75...... The End, for now...

I's still slightly aggrieved that I couldn't take to the couple of 75s that I've had recently, they should be just the sort of car I should like.  Absolutely love the look of them (especially in yellow!), love the ride comfort and interior when it's cloth, and the fact they're so cheap to buy for what you're getting.  Perhaps you just need a bit longer to acclimatise to them.

What model did you have Carlo?

My 2.5 goes well, I gave it a hard time yesterday when I was running late and felt more rapid that I would have expected.

Both were the 2.5 autos, one being the one I won in RobT's roffle!

Probably the three main things which put me off were the seat comfort, size of the actual car and the price of any catastrophic failures.  I am a skinflint (and skint) of course.

But being an auto you can do what I do........drive with one hand whilst crossing your fingers on the other hand, its worked so far  8)  8)

I used to see a Primrose 75 when i walked home form work or in and around Killie. At the time i did not like said colour. However now i would. That one looks fab i have to say. I didnt realise they were quite as scarce as they are. From memory the one i used to see had black mirrorsand i think sills. Sadly not seen said car for a few years. One more gone i suspect. Good luck with yours.

Keep meaning to take a pic of one that lives in Formby, last seen a month ago in pretty decent nick. Will make the effort next time.

Nice.

There was a lovely Old English White 75 Connie local to me but it seems to have disappeared :(

The show seems great, going to try and get down next year with mine.

Thats nice! Looks very tidy!

I bet his N/S door mirror isn't held together with black gaffer tape and the exhaust box held up with a length of rope though?

IIRC that was for sale on Car&Classic about 2 years ago for £1995

Saw a primrose one of these in asda's in longwell green, bristol. Very smart looking indeed!

Right, well seeing as a couple of people have asked me about the 75 lately I thought I would dig out this thread.

The Rover is good and fine. All its needed this year is a new battery back in May then a new Steering Rack Gaiter for the MOT in August.  Its now clicked on to 70,000 miles.  It does leave the odd drip of water and oil on the ground but not enough to lose any sleep over.  I guess if the under engine tray was still fitted then I would be none the wiser.  It could still easily spend another £1000 on this car but whilst its running fine and with an almost new MOT I wont bother.

I never get bored of piloting this lovely old car, the other day I drove a 15 mile round trip for a bottle of ketchup and some milk.  There is a shop 100 yards from my front door that I could of walked to. But sometimes I just feel like going out in the Rover, just coz!

Here is the latest pic taken on my phone.

I still fondly remember the kerfuffle of buying this. Saga.org. I'm glad you love it...it's genuinely a smashing old barge.

Still looking like a top quality motor SD1, you are doing a grand job!

Thank you all.

I forgot to mention the only other problem I had recently...  The left turn indicators packed up, this was soon rectified by AngryDicky with a small screwdriver and some magic electrical cleaner.

Lovely. The mirrors on these early ones look so much better than the ones on my mk2. Does yours have the rover badge embossed in the front headrests?

Posted

I am glad yours is going reasonably well too.

I know how you feel about not really having too much to say in terms of fixing things/tinkering with it as they are rather dependable barges. I have done around 3500 miles in mine so far with no problems at all, apart from having to occasionally top up the oil or coolant to make sure it is near the top.

I also understand the just wanting to drive it for no real reason at all, they are such a relaxing thing to drive, although I recon my one will need some bushes on the front soon though. Although that really isn't bad at all in terms of reliability for a car which so many think is as unreliable as it gets.

Hi Shuma, Yes it does have the leather embossed headreats.  I believe all the early connie's did.

The droplinks are another thing that often go on these cars causing some knocking from the front end.  On the plus side they are cheap as chips to buy.  On the downside they are a royal PITA to fit.

The 2.5 KV6 are great engines, if it was fitted in a German car there would never be any mention of possible unreliability.

I fooking love your car, because I really like the shape of 75s but mainly for that wonderful colour.

My biggest regret is that having had two of these in the last year I just couldn't really get on with them for various reasons, but that doesn't stop me admiring them.

Right, instead of highjacking Mr Bornes thread for his Launch 75 I thought I would add some notes to mine.  Its still running lovely, sounds the biz and is totally reliable, but there is a list of jobs pending ; -

*Cooling fan does not work as it should, I have to force it on using the aircon which is far from ideal in the middle of winter

*The heaters don't work

*Electric seats don't work

*Electric sunroof will not open

*Pass side door mirror is still broken and held together with extra strong black duck tape

*Rear exhaust mounts have rotted away so the rear exhaust is still held up with.... A length of old rope and what looks like an old drive belt, that said its solid and not   going anywhere soon!

*Slight water leak, probably from one of the coolant rails but at the moment its minimal

*Slight oil leak, again just the odd drip but not sure where from

Above all, Its a Rover.

I dare say an afternoon cleaning connectors and switches will take care of half of that list.

When the weathers warmed up a bit I will be happy to pop down with some tools and shiz to see what we can make happen - get Rob_T and Angry Dicky along too!

Very kind offer Parky.  Hopefully we get another essex massiv shite meet in the spring.  Been a year since the last one (yes that was a year ago when all the travellers turned up)

Yeah, good idea. Perhaps we ought to try somewhere with fewer horses and untaxed vehicles next time!

Such a beautiful car. There was a FF 2.5 Conny for sale 2 years ago in my town. Also Primrose. He wanted £850 which was a fair price all told. However, we'd just bought a house for about £50k more than we ought to, so I was out.

Keep the pics coming man.

Add to that list...  The rear door on drivers side will not open from the outside now, only from the inside!?

I wonder if I damaged it this morning when I closed it and it just bounced back at me, I thought there was just some ice inside the door, but now the outside handle seems totally redundant.

Oh well... To top it off the other rear door doesn't always unlock with the central locking, good job I very rarely ever carry people in the back.

I guess its now 25% more thief proof than it was before

My rear driver's door can also be a little reluctant, but usually locks/unlocks.

Six-Cylinder has an entire saloon he's breaking over at Shitefest '16 HQ. I will be heading over soon enough so can have a stab if you can agree money with him.

Haven't a Scooby what I'm doing, mind... (!)

Knowing me i'll just live with it for now, it will get added to the short list of jobs the next time I take it to British Legends.  I'm just saving up for that day.
