Primrose R75...... The End, for now...

I quite like playing cat and mouse when buying a car as if you win it makes you appreciate finally owning the car more.  I've managed to buy cars i've been chasing for years and it's quite rewarding.  In April just gone I purchased a MKII Escort that i'd known about (and wanted to own) since 2009, i'd waited six years for it to appear for sale so that I could try and buy it.  Another MKII I missed out on turned up a year and a half later and I was able to buy it and save it from being banger raced.

Really pleased you've got the car, opportunity given, opportunity taken, good call.

Nice work SD!!!! Here is a DVD which you clearly have seen already

Why? Because it is primrose yellow and overpriced?

Fuck me, £20 for a DVD! Must be the colour that demands a premium!

Good work with the purchase BTW :)

Bet you have a nice warm feeling now - filled undercrackers attributed to the reality of dual Rover ownership. It's that 'oh fuck, what have I done' moment. I am very familiar with this.

That's because he now realises that he has 2 V6 2.5 R75's and only the one credit card, eeeeeek :) :)

Right, spoke to the owner this evening, his happy with £400, I of course could not say no.

It will initially be squirreled away for a few weeks over at my mums whilst I am away, then I will come back for the dreaded MOT due date in August.

Phew!

I bet he's happy with £400! If it makes you happy crack on, hopefully it will turn out well.

If it turns out to be a hopeless case you could always have the satisfaction of reversing it through his front window into the lounge, then furiously asking for your £400 back as you've a mate who was a cleaner at Arnold Clark, who says 'Don't get done get Dom'. Dominic Littlewood turns up and then goes round with half the story, shouts at the man and his son. He gets told to fuck off so Dominic Littlewood decides to up the ante by jumping in the Rover and backing it at about 30mph into the front if the house. Then you both go for a pint of weak draught beer at a local Hungry Horse over a microwaved beef burger.

Worst comes to the worst if its fails its MOT miserably I will punt it on via the 75/ZT club, they are not currently aware of this car and although some members hate the colour others would buy a primrose car on 2 wheels and no engine.

Is the yellow very rare? Any idea how many were made?

Now if ever a program should be produced for the bbc it should be Do Over Dom..

And while at it the other two that should also be on my same hit list would be that that smarmy Matt Albright and his benefit cheat mate biker Dan..

Found this on the 75/ZT club. Not sure how many remain today though, but sub 100 I would say..

We know that ONLY 580 primrose yellow Rover 75's were ever built.

Out of the 580, 400 were shipped out to export, Germany, holland etc etc...Great Britain retained 180 Primrose yellow CARS.

Been to collect this lovely 75 this evening, soz no collection thread as the car was only 10 minutes away.

It drives lovely, stays nice and cool and seems to be a genuine 67k mile car, Very pleased!!

There is a slight knocking from the front when driving over bumps, hoping its nothing too serious. No advisories on the last MOT.

Here's the money shot chaps

the cloncking from the front could be the drop links or the wishbone bushes.

neither of which are very expensive though given the state of the chinky-chonky-chinese (if you're lucky) knock off parts floating about means that these are almost service bits!

nice buyage too, though the colour isn't really something i like.....

Doesn't look too faded that side.  Delicious

The fading is mostly on the top of the boot lit, roof and parts of the bonnet. The sides of the car are actually ok.

Its now squirreled away in deepest Essex until I get time to start T-Cutting. Then it will go for a pre MOT check later in the month once im back from working away.

I like this a lot, lots of effort and stress went into securing a fairly undesirable car with issues in an absolutely hideous colour.  If that's not what this forum is all about, I don't know what is.  Funny thing is, looking clean and shiny in the petrol station shot, it actually makes the car look quite classy and sophisticated.  Still the colour of weak custard, mind, but classy winner's custard nonetheless.

Fingers crossed it's not too much of a hassle to get it through a test, if it gets through without much fuss then it could end up being a decent bargain.

Thanks everyone for all your kind / supportive comments from day one (two weeks ago)

Re the MOT I think it requires front pads / discs and possibly some drop links.

Doing some digging around it seems to have been well cared for, and I have now managed to piece together the small amount of service history to back up the 67k miles  :-D  And it belonged to a Professor Malcolm Phillip Isadore Weller for 6 years previous to the last owner. Under the bonnet is very very clean indeed, and it purrrrrs.

Love it, and the colour is brilliant.

I really like 75s in high specs and that yellow really makes it. Just a shame that I'm terminally snobby and worry about reliability (never did before I was a crip!) or I'd have one.

Maybe...

But it would have a V8 in it. Out of a Mustang!

Managed to contact the previous 'previous' owner today, a Professor Malcolm + another 4 names. It was like speaking to a member of the Royal family but he remembers the car well and said he never had any issues, he told me the name of the garage who looked after the car....

I called them and mentioned a Primrose yellow 75, the guvner straight away knew the car I was talking about and had a good chat with him about it. The Professor was a rather mean fisted chap but had all necessary work carried at MOT time. They recall doing the wishbones, pads/dics, water pump? and other remedial jobs. The Professor aquired the car from a friend who kept it in tip top, there is service history for this owner.

Interesting couple of conversations, but the 67k showing is 100% genuine. In 2013 the car was sold to the last owners son with something like 55k.
