Cars I'd Like To Own But Would Feel A Tit Driving

I think I'm one of those people that just wouldn't care.

Wideboy Vitaras are genuinely appealing, as is pretty much anything.

I am a 44 year old grey haired bloke. I regularly drive my girlfriend's 56 plate cream beetle convertible, sometimes on my own and often with the roof down. It's actually quite fun. I don't put a flower in the dashboard though. I don't really care what other people think. Same as when I used to drive my 2CV or Skoda Estelle when they weren't cool. Maybe it's getting older but life's too short to worry what others think of you and most people don't care anyway.

Agreed with Cav. If it's something I want then I couldn't care less if people thought it was uncool/shabby/girly or whatever, but I'd not like to drive something like an Audi Q7 where people just assume you're a wanker whether you are or not.

I'd feel a tit driving a VAG product too, I'd hate it if someone thought I'd bought into the image and started up a conversation about superior quality plastics or German engineering. Skoda possibly the worst as your still hear people say "they're alright now, you know? Owned by Volkswagen!". Yes, I haven't been under a rock for 20 years, thanks.

I've always fancied an m3 (e36 shape just in my price bracket).

Sadly they seem to be owned by wannabe driftorz/ring legends/ council house crime lords.

Like wise i'd have a sapphire cosworth, but sadly i have no 'ford' branded clothing or a pit bull.

but how can they drive so fast with the car weighed down by a town hall clock and 50kgs of 'grand kids on board' badges dangling from the rear weigh mirror? Then there is the weight shift when the industrial sized bags of worther originals slides across the tiny boot.

As for mini v Bini, the original mini was awesome for its time and is still a great drive. The Bini is pile of shite and the opposite of a mini - big outside and small inside. There are far better cars for the money and far better cars for less money! The metro turbo was awesome but does fall in the category of this thread as in they are a great drive but you would feel a bit of a tit in one these days.

The ergonomics of the drivers seat is brilliant. It's the first car, I've really felt positioned correctly in 30 years of driving. I had a metro turbo. The only time I felt a tit was when the petrol tank was low and the road steep, it would run out of boost. Something to do with fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator, not getting enough fuel to the carb. I learnt to paint spray on the turbo. 2 front wings in white, sprayed off the car, and fitted very carefully so as not to damage the new paint.

It makes me want a Kappaccino

A Suzuki XC90 or whatever it's called.

About the only thing I agree with clarkshun on - they look shite.

I don't have t'interweb at the new place yet but when I do i need to dig out my old post about my mates Copen that he bought hus missus. Was a hoot to drive but not too manly.

For some reason I quiet like the idea of a pluriel as its very Autoshite with its clever roof and meets all the criteria such as Citroen bad build quality and leaks and cheap as chips ..attachicon.gifimage.jpg

I don't really think the owner of a 70s Triumph can complain about another car having poor build quality. I mean, Citroens are badly put together, but I told an MGF owner his car was badly made; my greenhouse now has no glass left.

Now I feel I must defend the BINI. Given that there are so many on the roads, you should ask yourself why. All the clever BMW marketing, wouldn't help sell a product that is truly shite. Of course it's overpriced, and overhyped, but the handling and grip would piss on our mk1 mx5 and it would get to it's destination faster, and I'd be more comfortable. Mind you, it's the mk1 version that's the best yet again.

I think the R50's interior and exterior styling is Fisher Price-vile, but even I'll admit they drive rather well. Probably the best front-wheel drive Rover ever developed (with a bit of help from Ricardo), and 95% of the motoring public reckon it was sorted by BMW. I'd have sent the Spiritual down the production line, but it would have ended up like the Audi A2; a brilliant car wanted by no-one.

Rover would have cocked it up, somehow - it'd have probably fitted the K-Series to it, pissing any credible chance of success up the wall.

Given I've owned 3 Metro's and 2 Allegro's amongst an array of other chod, maybe I'm not too qualified to judge!

But, I really loathe 4x4's generally unless you truely (ie: you are a farmer, a country vet, etc) have the need, that said, I do like the old original design of Range Rover, the 70's to early 80's two-door affairs. I fancy something like a big Mecchano set on wheels but would be put into the same category as those I purport to hate so would feel like a proper twat driving one around (as I don't have the aformentioned need to have a 4x4).

Would also like a 2CV, love the engineering of them but don't have the balls to buy one and drive it around.

Also fancy a 3 or 5 series Beemer, nice 6-cyl motor etc but as someone's already noted, you look (& will feel) like a tit, one who's a bit of a 'Try-hard' but without the cash to buy an up-to-date model.

I've said it before but the best feature of the pre-Tupperware Range Rover is a radio placed where the passengers can't reach it.

I don't think there are any cars that I WANT to own that I would feel embarrassed driving.

There are several cars that I DON'T want to own that I would feel embarrassed driving; this is why I haven't bought them.

A late model Range Rover in black with black windows is a good looking car

So is a red Ferrari with a cream interior

Would be embarressed with either

As for women, they prefer my Pennant to anything flash, they think its cute

I quite like one of these and the car isn't too bad either..post-9282-0-40861700-1434707019_thumb.jpgpost-9282-0-79766800-1434707040_thumb.jpg

And at least if you have a tinted hardtop no one will see you driving it about.. It looks like a mini version of a TT if you have cataracts in both eyes..

Yes, I'd love a Streetka. Whilst on the subject of tiny girly convertibles. The Suzuki Cappuccino.

I keep coming back to this thread but all the cars I think are cool I assume to be thought of as cool by the General public. This couldn't be further from the truth...

Would quite like a big scruffy jacked up pickup truck with monster wheels. Most people would think I was a cunt in one of those if they could see that far up

Not sure if I'd feel like a tit or love it.

Everyone else is a tit for not having one of those!

I saw a Firebird a few weeks ago in the same colour/livery as that. They do look a bit ridiculous in photographs, but somehow they work in the metal. It must be the size and sound of them, but I thought it looked pretty good.

All it needs is Yellow bonnet, doors, hatch, wings and bumpers and then all would be good. Although still shite.

I'd like to know what marketing genius came up with that, and what other work he/she had done subsequently.

As far as I am aware the story goes that Volkswagen made a few to grab attention at auto shows when the 6n Polo and MK3 Golf were new and so many people asked if they could buy one they made a few thousand of each.

You can imagine them sat round the table:

"Now the Mk4 has been launched we have loads of Mk3 shells and panels left over all in different colours"

"How about we chuck them randomly together so you have a car of many, many colours and we could flog it as a Harlequin "special edition"?"

Not only was idea approved and put into production BUT the gullible general public bought the damn thing !!!!
