Just a thought but that mechanical brake vac pump, any reason it can't be replaced with an electric one?

Fiat electrics.

Posted

Ignoring Italian electrics, is there any reason I cannot wire a quality (not Italian) vac pump to the ignition for the brake servo?

Posted

where are you hiding this one bro?

I don't know, probably on the street annoying the neighbours for now.

And that's why we pay our road fund licence.  It's allowed.

Can you just imagine..  a Tipo repricing the neighbourhood.

Nothing at all. It should work fine.

I have this, blown up to A3, in a clip-frame on a bedroom wall...

And these were the two that I had. The blue one was the 1.6 petrol. I then got the black diesel, swapped bits bad bits for good bits between the two and sold the blue one...

They both had digi dashes 8)

This was when the 1.6 was my main daily. All loaded up with kit and bikes for a week fishing and whatnot on Loch Awe. 2002.

When I briefly worked as a mechanic I got a then 5-yr-old one of these to sort out, it had mashed its crankshaft. I was probably only about 18 myself and was a bit out of my depth. The garage where i worked got a used engine from a Regata. I removed the old engine, swapped every last external nugget over, put the 'new' engine back in with a new cambelt and whatnot, fired it up and went for a blezz. Got about a mile before the crankshaft pulley came off due to me not tightening it properly, resulting in a load of bent valves. As I say it was a fairly brief career diversion that.

Well, the Tipo is being pressed in to action, a mate has need of a sensible* motor and I offered him loan of this fine beast. I've changed the wheels and given it a 3 minute check over and can confirm that it's exactly as it was when I parked it up 6 weeks ago ... The boot still doesn't open, the handling is slightly improved on the Alfa wheels, but it is still a bit wallowy despite it looking quite low.

Anyway have a pic of it on the new wheels:

Looks good.  Ours is a 1.4 petrol and also wallows.  With a full load, the sturdy original mudflaps become spring assistors.  Italian designers do things in style.

I tried for one recently, a base 1.4, but the seller was a total nob.

Despite starting the bidding at £200. (with nil bids) he wouldn't take offers of less than £230, insisted on loads of ridiculous conditions, and it must be collected within 3 days.

I offered £180, collection within10.

He still has it. Am I bovvered?

^^^ it would appear,quite correctly,not. Good man Nigel,fuck him

Ta. I'll find another, I' ve got the Uno, for now.

Aha! You may think this is a picture of a slightly dented Aerodeck, but can you see what's behind it?

That's right, the Tipo now has working tailgate action!

Quick update/request for help.

I am after 2 things for the Tip' a clip from the window runner, drivers window keeps falling off the runner, and a wiring diagram if possible.

The clip looks like this one, but less broken:

post-4715-0-73340300-1444936407_thumb.jpg

Any suggestions of where I might find one?

The wiring diagram is because the engine bay wiring has been bodged a little by the previous owner. Luckily I have a Tipo loom from the very kind Mr_Catsinthewelder but it needs a bit of modifying for my diesel motor.

Update:

The car was on loan to a mate until very recently and now it's back. On it's return it's had a bit of a service and a new water pump fitted.

The car is running quite well, but most in need of attention are the clutch and brakes. Neither massively urgent, the clutch doesn't slip but is at the top of the pedal. I was going to replace the cable and hope that sorts that for now. The brakes, I'll be having a look at the vac pump on the cam as suggested by Vin.

Whilst mention of Vin, big thanks to him for providing me with some valuable parts, a dash some arch repair panels, window motors, wheel trims and glass amongst other stuff - Thx again mate.

One other thing, the battery light is on or flickering most of the time, but the alternator is pushing out 14.7 - 15v, I've fitted a new regulator and it's still occurring, any suggestions?

Are you going to be doing any fleet pruning soon? F-I-L's Xantia has just failed it's mot due to lack of inner sill...

What are you after? I don't think I've got anything you'd want mate.

The GTA is off to ACA next month, the Merc W202 just sold* on ebay (yet to be collected) and I doubt he wants to spend £3500 on a slightly mental Daihatsu with carbon fibre bits and slick tyres.

Posted

You are probably right. The merc would have done the trick. The spec is for something with 4/5 doors pref diesel.

Oh dear on the broken clip Chris. I remember them being a bit 'delicate'...

After looking on Eper, part number is 7699416...There is nothing obvious coming up on a google search or Italian E-bay for that matter...

I would give 'Desira' a ring and see if they have any. They still had trim clips and whatnot for the Tempra a few years ago. If not, they'll be able to check the national dealer network...

If not, google brings up this swedish spares website, with 5 listed, last updated two years ago though...

Great Cars Tipo's am glad someone on here has one. :-)  I used to have a G reg 1.4 DGT what a car! Paid £77 with 6 months Mot shame I sold it after a idiot garage mucked up a cambelt change on it because I couldn't afford the repairs. Sold it to a mechanic who reckoned he was going to fix it up for his wife.

We then brought another a couple of years ago had a M reg 1.4 ies sorted a few bits and pieces getting it looking tidy again till last year when some knob pulled out in front off my brother completly destroying the front end. :-(  Luckly he walked away without a scratch there solid little motors.

We had brought some parts from a chap in Derby who broke a few 2.0 16v Sedicivalvole versions. So we sold him what was left of are one for spares.

Could be worth asking if he still got the window parts you need from are car ?

He lists his advert on ebay. Item number 191700657727. Sorry can't seam to work the linky thing.

His name is Gaz always found him to be a decent bloke so hope it's of some help.

We keep saying we have to get another Tipo / Tempra to make up for it at some point and seeing this reminds me we really should.

All the best with yours.

For sale £500, quite a bit less than the car owes me ... MOT Feb 2017, currently taxed. Bosch pump, surprisingly nippy. The fuel pump might be turned up slightly.

I am the second owner of this car.

Ok, in my ownership the car has had a replacement water-pump, alternator regulator, rear brake cylinders & shoes and probably other stuff.

Included with the car is a bunch of spares I got from Vin of this parish, electric window motors, rear arch repair panels, PAS pump and a few other bits. Plus a few bits from previous owner and a wiring loom from Mr_CatsinWelder.

Issues: None that stop the car being used.

Clutch is high ... it does not slip and I might have a replacement clutch cable somewhere.

Battery light flashes, however battery is good and alternator regulator recently replaced. Alternator putting out around 14V. Myself and mechanic reckon the light coming on is probably down to a wiring issue.

Central locking (front doors only) only works from passenger side. Switch in drivers door faulty ... I was going to swap them round and have duff switch in passenger side.

Clip broken on drivers window, again my temp plan was to nick one from another window.

Boot lock temperamental.

Brakes not fantastic, better with new rear cylinders, but possibly vacum issue as mentioned by Vin.

The car is a bit rusty in places, wheel well could do with attention but none structural.

There is a black Tipo in a breakers not far from here and the bits needed, boot lock, c/l switch, window clip can probably be got from there for not much £. I was planning to do this myself, but I'm currently working 12hrs a day and sometimes 6 days a week so free time is limited.

Oh, and despite all of it's issues. It's been on loan to a mate, my sister, occasionally used by me and has never had an FTP.

Time permitting, I would be willing to drive this to Scotlandshire should anyone up there want it ;)

I test drove a 1.4 Tipo - it was the first car I'd ever driven that wasn't my driving instructor's 1.0 Micra.

My main memory of this test drive was hitting the accelerator and brake at the same time, three times.

And no service history.

Was a lovely metallic red, though.

I briefly owned k198avr 1.4 in white. Only let me down once on junction 13 on m8 Motorway!. Apperently if the battery warning light DOESNT come on when you turn the iginition on, that mean the alternator is goosed and not charging. I e the opposite to every car. Unless you notice the warning light not coming on, the first you will know, proabally like me, the radio and heater suddenly stop and said car then cuts out and well you stuck! Still liked said car despite its weird wipers and small boot for size of car. Hope yours goes to a good home. No spare cash or even space at the mo.

That's interesting. When I had the 1.6 I came back from Leeds one evening with a knacked alternator and made it as far as Ferrybridge services. Well I got as far as the red traffic lights on the roundabout. When they went to green I had to jump out, push it and steer it at the same time...halfway across the lights changed and a car came up behind me and 2 blokes got out, shouted 'get in, we got you' and pushed me into the services...Got the AA out then...

Anyway the battery light was glowing low, so I knew what was happening...Maybe it was just the early digital dash ones...

GLWTS Chris.

The battery light has been on low/flickering since I got the car, it has done several thousand miles like this.

The alternator never puts out below 13v, however it did go up to 15v occasionally so the regulator was changed as well as the battery. This made no difference, hence the thought it is wiring related. The battery stays charged and the car always starts, so I ignore the light ;)
