At least you got to the bottom of who bumped it, perhaps Fannybaws will look where he is reversing next time, because driving like that in a company vehicle often gets a P45 stapled to their wage note

I spotted this w123 on facebook for £350

The sellers privacy settings were messed up and it was impossible to get in contact with him so I guessed it must have sold and been some kind of glitch from the advert being deleted or something.

I checked again this morning and there was a number added to the advert. I called it and asked if it was still available, it was so I asked if it was £350 he definitely wanted, he agreed so I arranged to have it transported at 8pm.

We got to the guys garage, the car fired right up and I drove it onto a friends truck, it drives really well but the brakes need attention.

The under seal one one side looked soft so I poked at it.

Jacking points need attention too.

I lifted the carpet to find a good amount of fresh metal to weld to so will try and make a start on it while the enthusiasm levels are up...

I think you are getting confused with the WD Capri, which had crap rattle can wings. The WD Merc had the new pattern wing sprayed at Edd's mate Dick's paint shop.

I Love W123 Mercs, I was actually looking to buy one when I stumbled across the Jag for sale and, well, the rest is history. Still really want to get a W123 estate but unfortunately I missed the boat in regard to prices, that being said they have always been quite valuable down here in Australia.

Edit: I have just remembered my love of the W123 stemmed from the WD episode too!

I would have assumed a 230 would be a six-pot tho.

There's a decent amount of load space in the back of the 305, I've chucked the spare axle into it and will be dropping the car off at my local garage to have all of the rear brakes renewed because I seriously can't be bothered.

I'm pretty pleased with that, I've recently fitted new shocks and top mounts up front and my tame mechanic has fitted my shiny c15 axle, fitted new cylinders, lines and handbrake cables and also fitted a new heater matrix. He hasn't done any mot prep so put it in at another garage for its mot. I'm not sure it will be on the road by the weekend, if it was I would have maybe tried getting down to Chumley.

They were, once.  In the 70s, while Mercedes were still making the W114/5 series, they changed from a 2.3 litre six to a new 2.3 litre four.  This is the engine that was carried over into the W123 and subsequently the W124.

By 1984 these were practically vintage, but they still drove better and felt more modern than anything anyone else was making even if they looked all aerodynamic and plastic bumpery , I fuckin love em.

Has it got a manual sunroof? That big chrome handle and the thud when you slide it close always made me think of a guillotine, I'm sure people must have lost limbs in them.

That's a honey.

I drove one of these briefly many years ago when I was younger. I didn't like the the big steering wheel, soft suspension or big slidy seats. I'd love all of that now.

I am going to use the money to buy a big hammer to dent the twat back into shape.

Glad you got it sorted and didn't have to resort to GBH, insurance or whatevs. Mercedededes looks pretty smart for the cash.

I had a 280TE 15 years ago. C plate one, one of the last S123 jobs. Metallic beigey gold. C224BBA I think it was.

Paid £600 for it, flogged it on because bits of it were beginning to bubble.

They go well with the straight six.

That's a right bargain! Are you a fabricator by profession foad?

My own w123 experiences include buying a saloon from Martin Buckley and being driven through the Cotswolds by him, memorable as he managed to get a fair turn of speed out of the 200- 4 speed he was wrestling with.

Almost. The 2.3 M115 4 pot did replace the old 6 pot job. Around 1980 though, the 4 pots were replaced with the good old M102, (as fitted to FOADs example here) which would go on to power the W201 190 and the W124 series.

Well played FOAD for bagging that one, 2.3 8v and k-jet injection is a good combo in these. Do you still have the 190?

well bought sir,

as those W123's are a PROPER mercedes benz.

like, made out of boiler plate proper.

hundreds of taxi drivers in Beirut, Lagos or Kinshasa cannot be wrong!

I'm not quite a fabricator, I'm currently a manual metal arc (stick) welder on a submarine dismantling project. As a welder I don't make, fit or fabricate components, I just weld them so the patches that I make for the Mercedes will be basic but welded to a good standard.

Daft question, why do they need people to weld stuff together when they are taking the subs apart?

Almost.

Um.  As I was saying about relying on memory?

We need to weld lifting pads to the deck head inside the reactor which enable components to be lifted out..

Also there is an insert cut into the side of the submarine to allow access into the reactor, we will have to weld it back on at some point to ensure the sub will float.
