wuvvum Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Ooh, Norwich reg on that MV / Brat / Brumby / 284! I loved the one I had - agricultural, but in a good way. Then it got nicked.
They_all_do_that_sir Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Stupid question but are these a flat four? Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
Pillock Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 I love the look of these, I used to have a little radi..... They are a happy, willing little truck and men of a certain age will often come over and chat about once having a Tamiya remote controled one as a kid. .... never mind. mk2_craig, dome, Dick Cheeseburger and 6 others 9

loserone Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 agricultural, but in a good way.In the same way as an Impreza or Legacy are agricultural? If one had a couple of hundred BHP would it be addictive to rally it round everywhere?
wuvvum Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Legacy is a paragon of refinement compared to an MV - never driven an Impreza so can't comment, but would imagine the same would apply. I would imagine one with a 200bhp engine would be fun in its own way, but unlike the Legacy / Impreza they're only part-time 4wd and the steering is unassisted and rather low geared, so they're not a vehicle which particularly invites hooning. Although I'm sure it has been done. loserone 1

DSC_0168 by srblythe, on Flickr The bottom of the nudge bar was very low and was a bit of a concern because of the massive speed bumps around here. I didn't want to scrape it into them so just chopped the bottom section off. Bazfr69 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I’ve wanted one of these on and off since I was a youngster. We used to have a dealers in Donegall Pass and I thought they were one of the coolest things I’d ever seen. Still do actually. binhoker668 1

paulscavalier Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Used to be a few round our way mostly farmers as we had a dealership nearby.
D Spares & Tyres Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Lovely. Always fancied a Brumby but have never seen one for sale in non farmer condition. DodgyBastard 1
Bazfr69 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I honestly can’t remember seeing one for sale over here as an adult and it must be twenty plus years since I’ve seen one on the road sadly.

Rod/b Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Someone off here who lived close to me in Berkhamsted used to have one. Can’t remember who now though, but it was in a ultralovely condition (ATCNBE etc)
Wack Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Lovely.Always fancied a Brumby but have never seen one for sale in non farmer condition. I bought a defender once so I understand now that one owner from new means multiple drivers , low mileage actually means it's spent all it's life on fields covered in cow shit which rots the chassis from the inside out pulling tree stumps out so the diffs, steering and every bush and bearing are knackered = farmer condition Scruffy Bodger, Dick Cheeseburger and Joey spud 3

Guest Hooli Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 That Brat is cool as fuck, I've still got my RC one from childhood (same chassis as the Mudblaster, Lunchbox & Midnight Pumpkin fact fans). Dick Cheeseburger and Joey spud 2
Exiled_Tat_Gatherer Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Lovely. Always fancied a Brumby but have never seen one for sale in non farmer condition. This - I've only ever looked at 3 in earnest as they were all borked beyond belief. it kind of dampened the spirit somewhat. I can't be trawling across the pond for bare faced lies to see scrap that should in no way have a certificate of roadworthiness. That looks generally messy but in good condition. Excellent find and purchase fella.
Lacquer Peel Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Never understood why Subaru stopped doing pickups, these were ace! Do Impreza turbo mechanicals fit? Sent from my Redmi 4 using TapatalkThe Brat/MV/284 was a niche product and basically a facelifted 1970s vehicle, I can't imagine a Legacy-based replacement. They produced the Baja in the early 2000s for the North American market, a lifestyle truck more than a workhorse. It wasn't a great success. I'd love one with a flat 6. jumpingjehovahs and loserone 2
Guest Hooli Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I remember years ago a mate got some rally tyres to fit a Brat & took it to a pay n play site. It did rather well, with just ground clearance letting it down.
5speedracer Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 That looks good until halfway back on the rear door then the proportions look wrong. Rear axle too far forward and too short a bed. Single cab would look good. Sent from my Redmi 4 using Tapatalk
anonymous user Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Always had a soft spot for these as they were just so different when they were new. A farming neighbour bought one new, he liked it, unfortunately by the time its first mot came around he didn't bother to try to get it tested as it was a wreck. Mechanically it was still good, but his sheer neglect of the bodywork had ruined it. The rear end was rotten from being reversed into something solid, it was bent, buckled and scraped, trailer lamps had been crudely fitted to replace the damaged lights, but no paint was put over the scraped areas. Whenever paint had been knocked off nothing was done and I can only assume that cow-shit is very corrosive. It did survive for a few more years as field transport before going for scrap. I think many went the same way captain_70s 1
Popular Post DodgyBastard Posted January 19, 2019 Author Popular Post Posted January 19, 2019 I had a mildly interesting week of cars this week, on Wednesday I bought a 960 3.0 auto, put it up for sale on Thursday and managed to part exchange it on Friday for a 244. RJC_6460 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_6462 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_6482 by srblythe, on Flickr The 960 is a car I probably shouldn't have bought but it was local and I wanted to have a shot of it, The engine and gearbox were brilliant, really quiet and smooth and it was great for cruising on the motorway and seemed to pick up speed quickly when I planted the foot. The handling was a bit vague and barge like and there was a knock/clunk coming from the front left.I just couldn't get excited about it, with a bit of work it could have been a really nice car but I just found early on that I didn't really like it so put it up for sale.I had quite a bit of interest at £500 which would I would have been happy with but an acquaintance messaged to say that he would definitely buy it but had a strict one out one in policy and needed to sell something to make room for it.He mentioned his silver 244 and said he thought he could easily get a grand for it for a quick sale so I just suggested giving him £500 plus the 960 to get the 244 as I had always regretted getting rid of my 240 GLT and with the insane asking prices I've seen for them lately I never thought I'd have the opportunity again. I took the 960 over to Edinburgh on Friday and was greeted with the sight of this beast on arrival! 244 by srblythe, on Flickr I still quite can't believe it's happened, maybe I should have put my lottery numbers on this week too! RJC_6538 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_6540 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_6499 by srblythe, on Flickr I haven't had much of a chance to get many photos of it. It drives really well and I'm incredibly happy with it, I've always preferred the earlier round headlight models but thought the chance of getting one of these never mind a 240 was incredibly low.I did have a slight issue when driving it earlier, I couldn't get it in and out of gears but managed to nurse it into a church car park to abandon it.I discovered that the clutch fluid was low so had to go and buy more, get tools and bleed the clutch in the church car park. RJC_6543 by srblythe, on Flickr The slave cylinder was really easy to reach from under the bonnet and was really easy to bleed, after that the car was back to normal. I'll just need to keep an eye on the fluid level now. In other news, Bernadette sold her 190E RJC_6517 by srblythe, on Flickr She hasn't used it in months and decided it was time to let it go. I have also decided to put my Proton and Mazda up for sale. RJC_6532 by srblythe, on Flickr If the Proton sells I will keep the Mazda but if the Mazda sells first I'll still be selling the Proton. RJC_6394 by srblythe, on Flickr The E30 is also for sale, I want £1k for it. In Sierra news, I still haven't managed to remove all of the Plastidip DSC_0189 by srblythe, on Flickr But a friend was round yesterday and managed to rewire the headlights so now I will be able to use it on the road at night. Also on Friday night a friend brought his Porsche round for some welding where a small hole on the front inner wing needed welded and a bracket the wing is bolted onto needed welded on.It was such a small job and he did most of the work removing the wing and washer bottle that I didn't bother charging him for it. DSC_0385 by srblythe, on Flickr So yeah, I've had quite an exciting week! aerodynamically_challenged, Shirley Knott, catsinthewelder and 52 others 55
